LOT Polish Profiles Adam Burakowski Polish Ambassador accredited to Sri Lanka He is a Professor at the Institute of Political Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Adam Burakowski graduated from the University of Warsaw, Faculty of History (2001). From 2006 to 2017 he worked for the national broadcaster Polskie Radio, holding various positions related to international affairs. He was a Polish representative to the European Broadcasting Union. In December 2017, he was appointed as the Republic of Poland Ambassador to India. He is accredited to six other countries, i.e. Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka. Michał Fijoł Chief Commercial Officer, Member of the Board of LOT Polish Airlines Manager with an extensive international experience. In LOT since January 2016, he served as a commercial board proxy. In early March of 2017, the Supervisory Board appointed him as Chief Commercial Officer. Graduated from Warsaw School of Economics (Ph.D. studies in Economics). As a German Academic Exchange Center and Austrian Government scholar, he studied at the Osnabrueck University in Germany and the Vienna University of Economics in Austria. For over 10 years of his professional career he worked for international media giants: German Axel Spinger, Swiss Ringier, French Aufeminin.com and the cross-European leading job board Stepstone, in sales, promotion and digital areas at various positions including a Board management position. He is also a digital industry expert; in charge of business development,managing several internet and technology ventures. Mohan Pandithage Chairman and Chief Executive, Hayleys PLC Joined the Hayleys Group in 1969. Appointed to the Board in 1998. Chairman and Chief Executive of Hayleys PLC since July 2009. Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport (UK). Honorary Consul of the United Mexican States (Mexico) to Sri Lanka. Council Member of the Employers’ Federation of Ceylon. Member of the Advisory Council of Ceylon Association of Ship’s Agents. Recipient of the Best Shipping Personality award by the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers. Excellence Leadership Recognition- Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka. Honoured with the lifetime achievement award at Seatrade- Sri Lanka Ports, Trade and Logistics; Life time award for most outstanding Logistics and Transport personality of the year- Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport. .

Studia Politica. Romanian Political Science Review was established in the realization that the problems and concerns of both new and old democracies are beginning to converge. The journal fosters the work of the first generations of Romanian political scientists permeated by a sense of critical engagement with European and American intellectual and political traditions that inspired and explained the modern notions of democracy, pluralism, political liberty, individual freedom, and civil rights. Believing that ideas do matter, the Editors share a common commitment as intellectuals and scholars to try to shed light on the major political problems facing Romania, a country that has recently undergone unprecedented political and social changes. They think of Studia Politica. Romanian Political Science Review as a challenge and a mandate to be involved in scholarly issues of fundamental importance, related not only to the democratization of Romanian polity and politics, to the “great transformation” that is taking place in Central and Eastern Europe, but also to the make-over of the assumptions and prospects of their discipline. They hope to be joined in by those scholars in other countries who feel that the demise of communism calls for a new political science able to reassess the very foundations of democratic ideals and procedures.

Political System The political system of Romania takes place in a framework of a semi-presidential republic, whereby the Prime Minister is the head of government and the President of the Republic is the head of state. The government exercises the executive power. Legislative power is vested in both the government and the two chambers of Parliament: the 412-seat Chamber of Deputies and the 176-seat Senate, which are elected for four years. Borrowing from its tragic past, the bicameral system in Romania is explained by the necessity to temper any possible authoritarian or extremist tendencies of a Chamber1. According to the Constitution, the Parliament of Romania grants the vote of confidence into the whole Cabinet and its political programme.
