The interior of the national museum tells the story of Qatar in three distinct chapters: Begin- nings, Life in and Building the Nation. Presented across 11 galleries, the visitor’s chronological journey, which extends on more than 1.5km, starts in the geological period, long before the peninsula was inhabited by humans, and continues to the present day. It was built on a slight elevation in the proximity of a dry waterbed known as Wadi Musheireb. This waterbed used to be a gathering place where Bedouins and locals would trade a variety of goods, primarily livestock goods. This gathering place grew into what is now known as the Souq Waqif. From 1906 on the fort was used as a prison. In 1915 the fort was abandoned by the Ottomans. In 1927, the dilapidated Turkish fort was rebuilt by Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani into the Al Koot Fort we see today. As a result of the building activity, the inside of the fort might not be accessible to the public. Address Ukaz St, Doha, in the Souq Waqif neighberhood. 12 Cultural Attractions AL RAKAYAT FORT (94km northwest of Doha) The fort of Al Rakayat, north west of Doha, is one of several desert forts dating back to the 19th century, and one of the few that were renovated during the 1980s. A freshwater well sits in the fort and the scattered remains of a village can be found nearby. Al Rakayat is the Arabic word for ‘well’ and it’s believed that the fort was built to protect the essential sources of water in the area. It is typical of desert forts, with three rectangular towers and one cylindrical one.

Its waterfront palm-fringed boulevard and twin carriageway extends in a horseshoe shape and runs 7 km along the Doha Bay and the city's sea-front. Doha Corniche is indisputably the most attractive part of Doha, studded with exciting green surroundings and remarkable modern architecture. The Corniche was formed during the late 1970s and early 1980s, reshaping Doha’s coastline. The public space used to be an empty walkway, however development has expanded in the 21st century with many skyscrapers being built towards the north of the Corniche. Presently, the Doha Corniche is an appealing designation of the economic boom. Today a rapid development of the built environment of Doha including public urban open spaces is witnessed. Open spaces are functional under the circumstance that they are used by the people; however, the open spaces in Doha are vacant due to the unappealing and uncomfortable physical and non-physical factors, namely during summer. This paper proposes an integrated approach for improvement of human comfort conditions in a public outdoor space all year round with emphasis on the summer season.

Aerial ropeway systems have been operated in touristic spots e.g., over lakes, rivers, and hilly lands in several countries. Passengers can enjoy a view from the above and experience a stress-free and reliable trip. Furthermore, those systems can be exploited as a public transportation in urbanized and populated regions. The objective of this article is to investigate the viability of implementing a gondola line flying over Doha Bay in Qatar as a tourist attraction from the marketing, economic, and environmental point of view. In this study, the associated costs (capital, maintenance, and operating) of implementing a monocable detachable gondola technology(MDG) are estimatedDraft using international best practices in the world. The economic analysis outcome demonstrates that the revenues generated from the fares could counterweigh the required capital investment as well as operating and maintenance costs and hence the proposed gondola could be economically attractive for investors.

Sand Ernest Rice Smith, DePauw University In retracing some of the "footprints in the sands of time," my mind goes back to a conversation some two years ago with my aunt, then eighty-four years young. She referred to "maple sand," a common "pest" to the maple-syrup makers in Vermont. The implication was that this "sand" had come up as sand from the soil through the circulatory system of the maple tree and then settled out in the boiling down of the sap. The resulting argument, as in so many cases, was based merely on lack of definition of terms. There is such a thing as maple sand, but it has not come up as sand from the soil. It's a fine, white, crystalline, rather impure calcium malate which, because of its relative insolubility (as compared with sugar) precipitates before the sugar in the syrup and sugar making. The solubility of calcium malate at 0°C. is 0.812 gm. per 100 cc. of water as compared with a solubility of sucrose, under the same conditions, of 179 gms. This relative difficulty of solution of the calcium malate as compared with sugar will explain the feeling of the maple-sugar maker that it is as insoluble as sand and the resultant naming of the material, "sand." Examination of two specimens of maple sand indicates a material much finer than what is usually called sand. 1 Table I.
