Watch the antics as they unravel the clues and how they deal with the news that Izzy drops on them. Aug 30, books are love rated it really liked it. Now they have their sights on helping Jack in more ways than one. The characters are just as lovable and sweet as you fall more in crazy with them. The story is serious about money and stealing and also trying to deal with aging and love but this is put in such a nice light spin that you are nothing but smiling and entertained throughout. A fun book from beginning to end with this crazy but sweet kind hearted group of characters that have you laughing and smiling from beginning to end as you see them solve another mystery and fall in love with Damien, Jacks sweet and honest new employer and love interest. Jack is feeling a little bored with life, a little restless…plus he is about to turn the big …so he is spending more time in the store. Earl, the store manager, advises Jack that he needs an assistant. After some discussion, it is decided that Jack will hire a new bookkeeper rather than an assistant. After Damien is hired, it is discovered that someone has been stealing funds from the store. So who is the culprit? The new hot new bookkeeper? I am loving this series. Light hearted, fun, funny reads with romance and a mystery? The characters in this book are still as charming as they were in the first book. Plus you get to meet some new characters. This author has a real talent for writing fun characters as well as humorous scenes. Both this book and the first in the series are great reads if you love mystery with some humor, and want a light read to enjoy on a day or evening when you want a quick read that will make you smile. I really look forward to reading more from this author. Jun 22, Jo-Anne rated it it was amazing Shelves: arc , own. After reading this book for the second time, it's still a 5-star book. Jack's business that he co-owns with his ex, Wyatt, is doing fabulously. So well that he had to hire a manager. The manager asked Jack for an assistant. Jack didn't approve an assistant but agreed to hire a bookkeeper instead. With his best friend Izzy's help, Jack hired Damien. He was very qualified for the job, but Jack especially wanted to hire him because he was hotter than any of the other candidates. It doesn't take Dami After reading this book for the second time, it's still a 5-star book. It doesn't take Damien long to figure out that someone has been fudging the books and the business is missing a lot of money. When the old ladies in the knitting club find out about this, they decide to help investigate to find out who is stealing from him. It's always fun when they get involved in anything. I love the way the elderly ladies from Izzy's grandmother's knitting club are referred to as "Jessica Fletcher wannabees". One of the ladies used to be an accountant so she worked with Damien to figure out where the money went. I loved the characters and the plot in Jack Gets His Man. Jack is a gorgeous man who is so enamoured with Damien that he barely hears the interview questions Izzy is asking. He wants to hire him as soon as he sees him. The older women "detectives" are a hoot. I chuckled picturing them dressed for a stakeout, all in black. They had to wear black scarves to cover their white hair! Haggerty writes wonderfully funny mysteries that have lots of detail and chuckles throughout. I was given this book in consideration of my honest thoughts. Jul 31, Christine rated it really liked it. A digital copy of this book was provided to Nerd Girl Official in exchange for an honest review. Often an author gets caught up on a sequel, or books in an ongoing series, spending too much time reminding the reader of the past, or re-introduction of characters. This author did not fall into this trap. Although there were clues that there may be a previous book or books, there are no redundancies to bore the reader. It hit all the marks for me: plot, fun characters, twists, romance and humor. This one has it all. Haggerty is not already on your lists, you need to add her! I know I have. This book was reviewed in conjunction with Nerd Girl Official Aug 30, A. McCarty rated it it was amazing Shelves: favorites. A very fun read. It kept me on the edge of my seat routing for the characters. It was very entertaining and well worth reading. If you need something to cheer you up, this is the book that will do just that. Imaginative Dreams was given for an honest review. Jul 19, E. Lindley rated it really liked it. Haggerty has indeed created a cosy world, where everything is more or less perfect. Jack is best friends with newlyweds Izzy and Noel, who are so supportive that Izzy even comes to collect him in the early hours of the morning after an illicit hook-up with an ex-lover. Izzy, Noel and a geriatric knitting club band together in order to investigate who is siphoning off the money. The key to enjoying this novel is to suspend all reality and just go with the flow. The story is set in a small town in Oklahoma, where it seems anything goes. He is stereotypically camp, playful and of course impossibly good looking. He is shallow to the point that he defines everyone he meets by how attractive they are but he is a devoted friend and takes good care of the knitting club ladies. I really like the fact that Haggerty uses her novel to give older people a voice. The knitting club ladies are hilarious - quick witted, saucy and not to be messed with. Despite being a great grandmother, Rose, a former accountant, is able to trace the missing money trail and is pivotal in solving the crime. Izzy is on the wrong side of forty and yet is a vital, fun loving character. Haggerty is able to effectively show how age is irrelevant when it comes to engaging with and enjoying a story. Jack Gets His Man is the perfect antidote to the stresses of real life, offering an alternate reality in the style of a fun sit-com. The main characters are back, but this new book is told from the point of view of a sub-character from the first book, Jack. Jack is the co-owner of a unique store that caters to cross- dressers and plus-sized women. When his store manager has a melt-down, a new book keeper is hired to lighten the work load. Unfortunately, the new book keeper discovers some huge accounting discrepancies, and there the mystery ensues. In addition to the mystery, Jack has relationship troubles that threaten to bubble over at work. His ex-business partner and love interest appears to be emotionally unstable, which makes his new book keeper all the more attractive. This makes for more than a few awkward moments throughout the story. There is nothing feeble about them and they use their skills to do recon missions, perform accounting audits, and get in a little bit of trouble with the local police. In their spare time they play matchmaker to the single people in their church, whether or not the poor souls want any help. Overall, this book was a great, light, summer read. I enjoyed the characters, which for me included wanting to smack a few of them around. Jack may have gotten his man, but will he be able to keep him? I would recommend this book to mystery fans who enjoy a quick read with a little romance thrown in. Aug 13, Lizzy Baldwin rated it really liked it. I must admit I am so thrilled that Dena decided to keep this series of books going because they are so much fun to read. I thought our lovely elderly detectives were there jubilant selves, not only staging stake-outs but performing accounting audits and getting into ever more trouble with the local police. They are such a brilliant addition to the novel as a whole and they are just as witty in the second book. I thought the mystery of the business was an intriguing main story and then the love i I must admit I am so thrilled that Dena decided to keep this series of books going because they are so much fun to read. I thought the mystery of the business was an intriguing main story and then the love interests help to add sub-plots to fuel the content of the book.
