Interested in becoming a Secondary School teacher? Do you want to find out more about Training to Teach with a Secondary School Direct Programme? North Charnwood Learning Partnership (NCLP) is a well-established partnership of secondary schools based in Loughborough and the surrounding area. Ashmount School is the lead school for the School Direct programme and there are eight Secondary Schools in the partnership – Limehurst Academy, Castle Donington College, Charnwood College, Humphrey Perkins, Iveshead School, Maplewell Hall School, Rawlins Academy and Woodbrook Vale. In addition, we have built strong links with specialist departments in schools outside of our partnership. We offer teacher training in the following subjects: English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, PE, History, Geography, MFL and Social Science. You may be eligible for a bursary of up to £30,000 to support you while you train, depending on your degree classification and the course you’re applying for. We work alongside University of Leicester and Loughborough University (Physical Education only) to enable trainees to achieve Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) with 90 Credits towards a Master’s Degree too. Friday 28th April 2017 RUSHEY MEAD ACADEMY Newsletter ISSUE NUMBER 14 RMET Free School Application We are pleased to announce that the Department for Education (DfE) has approved our application to open a free school in Leicester. The new secondary school is expected to open in 2018 or 2019 and will be based on the model of Rushey Mead Academy, that is “rated outstanding by Ofsted and consistently one of the highest performing schools in Leicester“. Through Rushey Mead Educational Trust, the new school will have access to a world-class education network and excellent school-to-school support. We will now work with the Department for Education to establish a location for the school and, once that is confirmed, will work closely with the local community and parents in this exciting new venture. For more information about the Free School please visit www.rusheymeadfreeschool.org.uk “Take if further opportunities” Year 7 STEM day On Monday 24th April, 60 of our Year 7 students had the opportunity to experience a STEM day delivered by Engineering Development Trust (EDT). The aim of this event was to widen participation by encouraging students from diverse groups to consider courses and careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). The day was filled with a range of hands-on activities and a career talk from the STEM ambassador. Students were challenged to work effectively in small teams to solve problems practically. Challenges included investigating the issues with supplying energy to the world given the current population growth and the new demands on energy supplies.
