As the manufacturing sector has declined, jobs in semi-industrial uses including warehousing and transportation and have proliferated, and now make up almost half of jobs in the IBZ. -

Substantial upgrades of the route were made between about 1895 and 1920; the last of these, which created the tunnel connection between Prospect Park and DeKalb Avenue, resulted in an operational split between Brighton and Franklin services.
