Die Menschen kommen zu Tausenden, um dieses Feste mit ihren bunten Kostümen zu besuchen, so dass jede Veranstaltung zu einem Karneval der Farben wird. Das Hemis Tse Chu, ein Zwei-Tages-Festival, ist das größte und bekannteste der klösterlichen Festivals. Es ist Padmasambhava geweiht, auch als Guru Rinpoche bekannt, dem Schutzpatron des tibetischen Buddhismus und demjenigen, der den Buddhismus einst von Indien nach Tibet brachte. Die Zähmung, Umwandlung und eventuelle Integration der vor-buddhistischen Bon-po Götter und Dämonen in den buddhistischen Pantheon werden ihm ehrfürchtig zugeschrieben und er wird als Wächter der Götter angesehen. Tse-chu bezieht sich auf den 10. Tag eines jeden tibetischen Mondmonats und der Tse-chu des fünften und zehnten Monats werden als Geburtstag von Padmasambhava gefeiert. Das Hemis Tanzdrama zeigt die magische Kunststücke Padmasambhavas in seinen acht verschiedenen Erscheinungsformen, die Feinde des Buddhismus zu besiegen und für seine Verbreitung zu sorgen.

Different valleys and rivers in Ladakh create it in to smaller sub-regions each having its own exclusive identity. These sub- regions reflect the varied dialects and customs collectively knitted into a unique ethnic cluster. While mentioning Ladakh‟s rich cultural heritage, one cannot remain silent about the outlandish festivals of the snowland. The festivals and dances of Ladakh on different occasions are the first choice of every traveler or researcher to visit Ladakh. The festivals of Ladakh reflect indepth relationship with dances of Ladakh which add charm to the festivals. These festivals exhibit highly choreographed dances accompanied with mystic music, colorful dresses and unique facial masks to mark the celebration. The paper has tried to highlight the famous festivals of Ladakh like Hemis, Losar, Sindu Darshan, Matho Nagrang and others whose importance is visible not only in Ladakh but in India‟s rich cultural heritage. The paper also studies the dances of the Ladakh like: Cham-mask dance, Jabro dances, Drugpa-Rches which beautify the glorious Ladakh festivals. After 20 years of isolation, travellers are slowly drifting back to this legendary backwater, returning to Srinagar’s famous houseboats and walking the trekking routes north of Pahalgam. Kashmir boasts some of the highest and most rugged landscapes on earth in mountainous Ladakh, and one of the most sublime in serene Dal Lake. Many people panic at the idea of travelling to Kashmir, so it’s important to dispel some myths. The state of Jammu and Kashmir is actually three separate regions: Hindu Jammu, Buddhist Ladakh and the Muslim Kashmir Valley. Ladakh to the northeast is almost un- touched by the Kashmiri conflict, while Jammu and the Kashmir Valley are safer than they have been for decades. However, the Kashmiri insurgency is ongoing and it is essential to check the security situation before travelling to either Jammu or the area around Srinagar. Remember that the dispute over Kashmir has been the cause of three wars between India and Pakistan. If Jammu and Srinagar seem like too much of a gamble, don’t overlook Ladakh and Zanskar. These rugged Buddhist regions are a little slice of Tibet, transplanted to India and wedged in by roaring rivers and snow-capped mountains. A series of mountain passes, the highest in the world, connect Ladakh, Zanskar, Kashmir, Lahaul, Spiti and Manali, opening up a fabulous circuit from Srinagar all the way to Kinnaur in Himachal Pradesh.
