Createspace, United States, 2015. Paperback. Condition: New. Language: English . Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****. Definitive book of the Unoicial history of Download Festival at Donington Park, told through hundreds of interviews with the bands. This book was originally the second part of my book From Donington To Download now there are two stand alone books covering each of the festivals held there, this being the second half. In 2005 I started to write the book of the Donington Download Festival (including Monsters Of Rock at Milton Keynes). I was coming to the end of completing the Oicial Book of the Reading Festival and saw Donington as the second release in my Festival Series of books, covering my favourite festivals that I attend every year - Donington/Download Festival is the longest running rock festival in the UK, covering all genres from rock to classic rock , Emo to Screamo , Punk to Hardcore , Black Metal to Death Metal and every style in between, plus in the last 5 years the addition of drum bass and dance - the festival that caters for all. I have travelled the length and breadth of England interviewing bands and artists for the book and have had some great times in amongst the hard work. I ve also had many phone interviews from Metallica to Testament, Lordi to Staind. The book contains many bands such as Metallica, White Zombie, Bullet For My Valentine, The Darkness, A Day To Remember, Funeral For A Friend, In Flames, Lamb Of God, Bring Me The Horizon, Trivium, Reel Big Fish, Bowling For Soup, Stonesour, Dream Theater, Cancer Bats, Five Finger Death Punch, The Ghost Of A Thousand, Lacuna Coil, Lostprophets, Murderdolls, Less Than Jake, Ash, Unearth, Soil, Flogging Molly, Coheed And Cambria, Skindred, Alexisonfire, Hatebreed,... Throughout history, art rejoices and revels in the wisdom of women. Within a deck of tarot cards, the High Priestess serves as the guardian of the unconscious. In Greek mythology, the old oracles celebrate the Mother Goddess. William Shakespeare posited portentous prescience in the form of MacBeth’s “Three Witches.” On their sixth full-length album Ritual, In This Moment—Maria Brink [vocals, piano], Chris Howorth [lead guitar], Travis Johnson [bass], Randy Weitzel [rhythm guitar], and Kent Diimel [drums]—unearth a furious and focused feminine fire from a cauldron of jagged heavy metal, hypnotic alternative, and smoky voodoo blues. It’s an evolution. It’s a statement. It’s In This Moment 2017… “It’s like we’re going into the next realm,” asserts Maria. “I had a conviction of feeling empowered in my life and with myself. I always write from a personal place, and I needed to share that sense of strength. I’ve never been afraid to hold back. Sometimes, I can be very suggestive. However, I wanted to show our fans that this is the most powerful side of myself and it’s without overt sexuality. It’s that deeper serious fire inside of my heart.” “What Maria is saying comes from deep inside,” Chris affirms. “This time, we had a bunch of ideas started before we hit the studio. There was a really clear direction. It’s different.” The group spent two years supporting their biggest album yet 2014’s Black Widow. Upon release, it seized their highest position to date on the Billboard Top 200, bowing at #8.

  • Metal Madness: an Interview with Kingsmen
Metal Madness: An Interview with Kingsmen Tanner Guimond Welcome to Metal Madness my fellow metalheads, covering all things metal, metalcore, deathcore and hardcore in the Providence area. I recently had the privilege of talking to Kingsmen, one of Providence’s premier melodic deathcore acts. This five-piece is made up of former members of Fortune Favors the Brave and Scriptures. The band has been around since 2016, and since its inception, Kingsmen have garnered a large fanbase and signed with Extreme Management Group, known for managing such acts as Suffocation and Rings of Saturn. If you’re into crushing breakdowns, searing melodic vocals and overall death-core madness, this is the band for you. What you notice at a Kingsmen show, apart from the raw talent and stage presence, is that for a band that hasn’t been around for a long time, they play like a seasoned band that’s been on the road for years. That comes from the dedication that the band has to their art. I caught up with lead singer Tanner Guimond Sunday night at Fete Musical hall where the band was headlining a show. Erik Nivison (Motif): How did you get together? Tanner Guimond: It all kinda happened four or five years ago. So Dylan Robertson and I were in Fortune Favors the Brave, and Frank, Adam and Tim were in a band called Scriptures. We did a couple of shows together during a weekender run, it was kinda like after going out we realized we had some chemistry. After those bands fell apart Tim (lucier guitar) reached out to me and we brought Dylan in and wrote a few songs.

  • Exploring the Chinese Metal Scene in Contemporary Chinese Society (1996-2015)
"THE SCREAMING SUCCESSOR": EXPLORING THE CHINESE METAL SCENE IN CONTEMPORARY CHINESE SOCIETY (1996-2015) Yu Zheng A Thesis Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF ARTS December 2016 Committee: Jeremy Wallach, Advisor Esther Clinton Kristen Rudisill © 2016 Yu Zheng All Rights Reserved iii ABSTRACT Jeremy Wallach, Advisor This research project explores the characteristics and the trajectory of metal development in China and examines how various factors have influenced the localization of this music scene. I examine three significant roles – musicians, audiences, and mediators, and focus on the interaction between the localized Chinese metal scene and metal globalization. This thesis project uses multiple methods, including textual analysis, observation, surveys, and in-depth interviews. In this thesis, I illustrate an image of the Chinese metal scene, present the characteristics and the development of metal musicians, fans, and mediators in China, discuss their contributions to scene’s construction, and analyze various internal and external factors that influence the localization of metal in China. After that, I argue that the development and the localization of the metal scene in China goes through three stages, the emerging stage (1988-1996), the underground stage (1997-2005), the indie stage (2006-present), with Chinese characteristics. And, this localized trajectory is influenced by the accessibility of metal resources, the rapid economic growth, urbanization, and the progress of modernization in China, and the overall development of cultural industry and international cultural communication. iv For Yisheng and our unborn baby! v ACKNOWLEDGMENTS First of all, I would like to show my deepest gratitude to my advisor, Dr.

  • Original Austrian Alpencore
ORIGINAL AUSTRIAN ALPENCORE TUXEDO, often referred to as one of the most upcoming core bands of Austria. They convey power, energy and, most important, they enjoy what they do. A concert of tuXedo is not just a concert, it`s an experience in which in every second on stage something happens. Not for nothing they were nominated for the title „Best Austrian band 2014 „ by the largest Austrian music station and reached the 2nd place in that voting! Their so-called Alpine Core is a blend of metalcore and thrash metal in many facets. Powerful, but also very melodic guitar riffs, combined with brutal shoutings and ear worms which you will not forget. A trademark for that incredible pressure, the guys convey on stage, are the pounding, monstrous drums and percussions, which give the show something really special. Everything is rounded off by their traditional Austrian stage outfit. What would be Alpine Core without leather pants and shirt? tuXedo is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. This will be celebrated at several shows in 2015. The boys have plenty of stage experience. In over 150 shows, since 2012, they have destroyed stages in Austria, Germany, Croatia, Slovenia, Italy, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. This is the reason why they have a quiet big fan base. Due to their versatile music and their likeable live show with many funny moments, the band succeeded in winning fans with completely different tastes of music. From the typical core audience, metallers with other preferences, right up to the „non-metallers“, everybody is in front of stage when tuXedo asks for a dance.

  • “Extinction(S)”
“Extinction(s)” Available as: CD, orange LP + CD, Digital Album Release Date: November 23rd , 2018 UNEARTH etched their name into the annals of hard rock history through unrelenting determination, tireless energy and a catalog of stone cold classics. Two decades into a triumphant career, the Massachusetts-bred New Wave of American Heavy Metal trailblazers are both elder statesmen and newly relevant all over again. With over a half million albums sold around the globe, UNEARTH’S astounding legacy has never been more self- evident. Festival vets and road warrior renegades, UNEARTH was a standout in a sea of worthy contenders on the final cross-country Warped Tour. Immediately upon its release in 2018, “Incinerate,” the first single from their seventh studio album, shot to Number 1 on SiriusXM Liquid Metal’s “The Devil’s Dozen” and was among the Top 100 most played songs on Amazon Music. The hunger for new music from UNEARTH was palpable and Extinction(s) delivered in spades. There could be no clearer demonstration of the band’s resilience and the unwavering passion of their worldwide fanbase - a diverse legion of heavy music acolytes who live and breathe the community, culture, and lifestyle UNEARTH represents. Extinction(s) is as much a statement of purpose as a declaration of intent, reigniting the flame of their established strengths and carving a pathway for another two decades of creative accomplishment and inspired live performances. The album is full of venom toward the wrongs of the world, fighting back against the precarious position civilization is in, determined to effect some kind of change.

MICHIGAN WOMYN’S MUSIC FESTIVAL: PLACE MAKING AND THE QUEER PERSISTENCE OF FEMINISM by Carolyn Joyce Rowe B.A., Acadia University, 1995 M.A., Carleton University, 2001 A THESIS SUBMITTED IN PARTIAL FULFILLMENT OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DEGREE OF DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY in The Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (Cross Faculty Inquiry in Education) The University of British Columbia (Vancouver) June 2014 © Carolyn Joyce Rowe, 2014 Abstract This dissertation research is designed to advance knowledge concerning contemporary conceptions of sexual citizenship, queer history and the context and performative nature of feminism during a time of “post-feminism” (Faludi, 1991; Fraser, 2009; McRobbie, 2004). I investigate feminism as it is enacted at the Michigan Womyn‘s Music Festival (hereafter referred to as the Festival). The Festival is an event that grew out of the second wave feminist movement in the 1960s and 1970s. It has survived decades of liberation movements, identity politics and related political struggles, threats from the religious right, transsexual inclusion/exclusion debates and so on. Unlike many of the feminist events that closed their doors in the 80s and 90s (Case, 1996) over the last 35 years this festival has grown into one of the oldest and largest lesbian feminist gatherings in the world (Cvetkovich and Wahng, 2001; Morris, 1999; Ryan, 1992; Taylor and Rupp, 1993). Since the mid-1980s, discussion about the “end of feminism” and what post- feminism means has increased (Faludi, 1991; Fraser, 2009; Jones, 1994; McRobbie, 2009; Modleski, 1991). Post-feminism sometimes refers to a new kind of anti-feminist sentiment, one that differs from the backlash faced by feminists in the 1970s and 1980s.

For example, metal is believed to be satanic, or to celebrate and inspire violence; the fans are seen to be angry or depressive. This study uses surveys of 62 heavy metal fans, and other relevant research, to undermine such stereotypes. The sound of heavy metal, the lyrics of metal songs, and the audience of heavy metal music are analyzed separately. Heavy metal fans ultimately are not dissuaded by misconceptions about the music, and continue to place high value on its community, purpose and musical creativity. ALIVE OR JUST BREATHING: A REVIEW AND CONFRONTATION OF METAL’S MOST POPULAR STEREOTYPES There are very few things in life that take complete priority over anything else.
