Worksheet 45: Deponent

I. Deponent Verbs: a deponent has passive endings but active meanings. You can identify a deponent verb by its three :

sequor, sequī, secutus sum: to follow

1. sequor: 1st singular present deponent indicative (-ō à -or) 2. sequī: present deponent (-ere à -ī) 3. secutus sum: 1st singular perfect deponent indic. (note the lack of a traditional 3rd P.P.)

While deponent verbs may have passive forms, they should be translated ACTIVELY!
