Disco 16 October we have in and SWIS it

also is an opportunity for the community to come together. I would

like to take this opportunity to thank the parents who have worked tirelessly

in the background to make this possible. It is a pleasure to work with

you and we are all extremely grateful for the effort you have put in. Having enjoyed the longer days and warmer weather I look forward to

next Thursday when our second big community event of the term takes place and the students showcase their hard work as part of the Market

Day. This is always a highlight! Hopefully by writing about the weather I haven’t jinxed the day, the antisipointment would be too much . Like us on Facebook! I look forward to using these opportunities to catch up with many members of the community whom I have met over my time at SWIS.

Unfortunately two weeks is not sufficient to catch up with everyone facebook.com/ southwellingtonintermediate because so many people, both students and their whanau have contributed to making my time at SWIS an enriching and enjoyable one.

Principal Appointment Process Kia ora ki te ha pori o to ta tou kura nei,

The new Board at South Wellington Intermediate would like to thank the school community for their patience while the Board have been becoming familiar with the running of South Wellington Intermediate. It has been a busy time with the resignation of Traci Liddall our principal and also the resignation of deputy principal Rauru Walker. The Board is very thankful for all the hard work that both Traci and Rauru have done over their tenure at the school. They leave SWIS in a much better position than when they joined us and we are extremely thankful to them both. Systems have been set up that will allow the school to continue to function seamlessly when they leave. With both of these resignations comes a period of change which also presents us with new opportunities for the School. With this in mind the Board would like to review what we are currently doing well here at SWIS and of course looking forward to what we could be doing better. The Board are very aware that the recruitment of a new principal will be one of the most important jobs that we do for our tamariki. As such the Board would like to seek parental and community input into the interview questions that we might pose to the successful shortlisted candidates. We want to know what attributes you would like to see in the successful applicant and are hoping that the questions you give us will guide us through the selection process to ensure we meet the needs of our entire school community. Please feel free to email your questions and suggestions to the Board at [email protected], or write to us here at SWIS. We look forward to some rigorous and challenging questions.

Nga mihi

Term 4 at SWIS The board are planning on appointing a principal to begin the 2020 school year. With this in mind we are pleased to announce that we have appointed Rauru Walker and Howard Young acting co- principals during Term 4. We feel this is the right decision as we are committed to ensuring the least amount of disruption through the final term.

We are sure that Rauru and Howard, with the support of all the SWIS staff will do a great job of leading the school until the end of the year and ensuring that the students of SWIS enjoy what promises to be another busy term.

AIMS Games

There will be a comprehensive write up of AIMS Games in the next newsletter once students have returned. In the meantime enjoy some of the action.

Piki Ake Poitarawhiti

The Piki Ake Poitarawhiti Netball tournament is an annual event held During Ma ori Language Week. This year SWIS had five teams participating in this celebration of Netball and Te Reo. Thank you to Zoey Milne who coordinated the tournament and all the coaches and parents who came along to assist our teams on the day. It was great to see our students giving their all and having fun.

Well done to all the players!

Baseball 5

This week we have had Jimmy Boyce, pitcher for the Tuatara and Wellington coach working with our students introducing them to Baseball 5, an accessible version of baseball. The students have had a lot of fun and hopefully this will lead to further participation in this sport which is rapidly growing in our country.

More from the world of IT at SWIS

Digital Technology at SWIS gives students a chance to explore, create, design and collaborate using a wide range of websites, programmes and apps. Students present learning using Google docs, slides, forms and sites. They also create using sites such as Scratch, Minecraft, Animaker, Pixlr and Weavesilk.

Market Day Market Day is next Thursday, 19 September. This year we are pushing for a sustainable event. We encourage everyone to bring your own cutlery, containers and drink bottles. We appreciate your support in making this event a great event and a sustainable one.
