ARLIS .· .· Alaska Resources Uotary & Information Services AlM INTRODUCTION At the request of the Bureau of Land Management, the Heritage Conservation and Recreation Service made an independent study of the resources of the Kisaralik River area to determine the river's suitability for designation as a component of the National Wild and Scenic River System. In the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act (PL. 90-542) Congress stated: "It is hereby declareq to be the policy of the United States that certain selected rivers of the Nation which with their immediate envi:r:onments, possess outstandingly remarkable scenic, recreational, geologic, fish and wildlife, historic, cultural, or other similar values, shall be preserved in free-flowing condition, and that they and their immediate environments shall be protected for the benefit and enjoyment of present and future generations." Ibis study was made in compliance with ~he Act. An interagency field inspection was conducted of the Kisaralik River in July 1978. Participating in the inspection were: Bureau of Land Management U.s. Fish & Wildlife Service State of AI;aska, Division Heritage Conseravtion & of Parks Recreation Service The following analysis is largel~ based on information obtained during the interagency field inspection; the Kisaralik River Report of August 7-14, 1976, by BLM staff (unpublished); the BOR aerial reconaissance in 1977; and library materials. THE RIVER AND ITS SETTING ~eral Setting The 3,000-4,000 foot high Kuskokwim Mountains run from near the central Yukon River in a southwest direction to the Bering Sea. -

DOG SPIDERS Written by Ammon Gilbert From a Concept by Ammon Gilbert, Jim Law, and Johnny Moreno © BingeMedia 1 We open up the movie in a science lab, and not just any science lab, but something out of THE AMAZING SPIDER - MAN (that's for you Law, no w shut your mouth), something that's filled with lab coats, beakers, and fancy high - tech equipment that nobody really knows how to operate, but goddamn does it look cool. There are various scientists wandering around with clipboards, pocket protectors, thi ck - rimmed glasses, and classic white shin - hanging lab coats. It's a typical day at the ol' science lab doing typical science lab shit. Trotting down one of the many isles like it owns the place is a Golden Retriever. Like many Golden Retriever, this one ha s a perpetual smile on its face and looks about as happy as a pig in shit just being there. We focus on its collar to find its name is GINGER ). Ginger trots down the a isle on its way to its owner, Dr. Jack Hammer. Jack is a regular Rico Suave: handsomely g ood looking with a chiseled chin and a beefed out frame to match (i.e., the perfect role for Paul Logan). He is also sporting a lab coat and thick rimmed glasses because he's a scientist and that's what scientists do. He's currently working on some science shit, pouring liquid into various beakers, analyzing data, and concentrating intensely. Ginger stops trotting and sits by Jack , obviously wanting attention. -

It's a book, by cracky, about the 1802; hopefully the oddest and most entertaining book on any microprocessor ever written. The 1802 is, after all, an odd and entertaining chip. This view is not shared by all. Physicist Mike Brandl said he could swallow a mouthful of sand and barf up a better microprocessor than the 1802, and another colleague claims its instruction set demands that he program with his left hand. Bitch, bitch, bitch. I kinda like it. Much of this material I.rd oped out while recovering from hernia surgery not long ago and couldn't lift anything heavier than a 40-pin DIP. I had a lot of fun and thought you might like to be copied in on it. Like everything else I do, this book is an experiment. If I don't take a serious loss on production and mailing costs, I may do up another one. I've got a little gimcrack on the bench that'll make you people drool: an easy-to-build thermal printer for the 1802 that you can make for seventy bucks flat with all new parts. I'm working on an automatic phone dialer board and a few other things. Selectric interface. Robotics. Ham radio stuff. All kindsa things. Are you interested? Study Cost: $32,850 Study Duration: June 14 to September 19, 2003. Abstract: The Y-5A Test Fishwheel Project operated from June 14 to September 19 in 2003. Data were collected for Chinook, summer chum, fall chum and coho salmon entering the Tanana River. Video capture equipment was used throughout the season as the primary method of data collection. Conclusion 20 2 1.1 Introduction In this essay I examine the Haitian-American author Edwidge Danticat‟s1 representation of mother and daughter relationships between two cultures in two of the stories in her short story collection Krik? Krak! Her stories focus on problems with immigration, gender and history, and they concern mother-daughter relationships. Characteristic of Danticat‟s stories is the focus on women and their search for identity.2 The mothers and daughters in the two stories I have chosen to examine are immigrants from Haiti of the first or second generation and have lived in the United States for several years. Krik? Krak! focuses on women, their struggles and motherhood. In the last two stories of Krik? Krak!, “Caroline‟s Wedding” and “New York Day Women” the mother‟s and daughter‟s relationships are influenced by the situation of being caught in the middle of two cultures, a situation that is problematic both for the first and second generation. While reading these stories I found that the rifts between the mothers and daughters are profound, and that the gap between the mothers and daughters were widened by the differences between Haitian and American culture and by the complexity of the political relationship between the countries. -

Everyday, an average of 20 American families adopt children from overseas, mostly from Third World countries. Adoption of children from China by citizens of the United States began in 1992 when the Chinese government passed a law ratifying international adoption (China Adoption Website, 2007). As of 2001, more than 23,000 children born in China have left Chinese orphanages to join adoptive parents in the U. S. (Miller-Loessi & Kilic, 1999). In 2006 alone, Americans adopted 6,493 children from China, more than from any other country. -

We appreciated not only the opportunity to-expre·ss-our-cnrrc-errrs-to-you-;-but-also your clear interest in tn-=-e +-is=s=u-=:es=---------- related to salmon management in Alaska. We are writing this letter to follow up on a couple of issues raised during that call. Our comments here are directed at the part of the Salmon Fisheries Management Plan (FMP) Amendment 12 that excludes the three historic net fisheries in the West Area from Federal oversight. As you know, the North Pacific Fisheries Management Council (NPFMC) decided last week to adopt provisions to eliminate these areas from the Fhd:P The stakeholders in the East A..rea ha:ve expressed that the status quo is acceptable to them and we respect their opinion. First, we wanted to elaborate on our concerns regarding the lack of stakeholder involvement. As we said during the teleconference, we have been mostly excluded from direct participation in the NPFMC' s current salmon FMP review. What we mean is that at no point during this process has the fishing community of Cook Inlet - fishermen, fish processors-or-local community-leaders=-been ·allowed-to-participate-in-developing the-- amendments. One of the core building blocks of decision-making under the Magnuson Stevens Act (MSA) is to directly involve.stakeholders in crafting solutions to fishery related problems. -

Furthermore, Lemonade centers black life while presenting mainstream audiences with poetry and avant-garde imagery that challenge dominant views of black womanhood. Using theorists bell hooks, Stuart Hall, Patricia Hill- Collins and Audre Lorde, among others, I argue that Beyoncé’s work challenges the understanding of artistic production while simultaneously fitting within a long tradition of black feminist cultural production. -
