Dear New Wildcats,

Welcome to Winter Park High School! Yes, you are now a Wildcat. We are excited that you are now a part of our family and hope that the following items will be beneficial as you transition to WPHS. • Welcome Packet - We have included a lot of information in this welcome packet. Please take the time to read through it and become familiar with the many positive aspects of our comprehensive high school. • 3 Keys to Student Success in High School – Focus on Academics, Challenge Yourself by taking rigorous courses, Get Involved in one or more of the many extra-curricular programs we offer. It’s important for every student to be ready to work hard on Day 1. We want to provide the opportunity for every individual student to create a high school resume that opens numerous doors for future success. • Parental Involvement – If you are interested in getting involved as a parent, we have many volunteer opportunities. Aside from being an integral part of the extra-curricular activities in which your Wildcat gets involved, we always have room for volunteers on our School Advisory Council, PTSA, WPHS Foundation, and College & Career Center. Our parent volunteers are a huge reason we have sustained a decades-long tradition of excellence. More information for each one of the above mentioned groups is included in this packet. • Parental Support – One of the best ways for you to support your Wildcat’s education is to have weekly goal-setting conversations. Stay connected to Skyward – use it as a tool to monitor grades and initiate conversations to help train your Wildcat to be organized and efficient. • Stay Informed – We use email as a primary source for getting important information and reminders out to our families. o Updated Contact Information - Please keep your contact information, both email and phone numbers, updated with our Student Services office. o Weekly Electronic Newsletter – Text ‘WPHS’ to 22828 in order to subscribe. Scholarships and Financial Aid

For aid based on financial need, students must complete the FAFSA. Use the FAFSA4Casterto predict your award level. Some schools will also require the CSS Profile. Scholarships and grants do not need to be repaid, whereas loans must be repaid, often with interest. Your college may be the greatest source for scholarships. The CCC will post opportunities in Instagram, Facebook, the principal’s newsletter and the Student Canvas page.

Winter Park High School Advisory Council (SAC) Continuous improvement is a priority at Winter Park High School. Our School Advisory Council studies the school’s performance trends and develops an annual plan to improve education in vital areas such as student achievement, curriculum, safety, and discipline. The SAC also assists the principal when planning for the upcoming year’s budget. Plans are available to the public and accessible through the Florida Department of Education’s website (CIMS). SAC meetings are public and occur one night per month during the school year. SAC members are elected annually by school parents, and attendance is required. Some notable SAC projects include the ‘Escape the Vape’ program designed to educate our students regarding the dangers of vaping. SAC also has a budget and, most recently, the council approved the purchase of numerous band and orchestra instruments in order to contine those programs safely during COVID . Let us know if this is an area in which you would like to get involved as we continually look for ways to improve Winter Park High School. You make a difference. Contact Paul Maldonado ([email protected]) if you would like to join SAC. Winter Park High School Foundation Overview
