Respected Chief guests of the day, other dignitaries on the dies and off the dies, my colleagues, my dear students. With all your permission, let me present before you the 49th annual report of MES Asmabi College for the academic year 2017 – 18. The year 2017-18 was marked with many events and success stories. Forty Nine years for an institution is a worthy stage where one can start matching expectations with results, objectives with achievements and above all, blessings enjoyed with difficulties & hardships endured! MES Asmabi College has emerged as an arts and science college with difference, a promising institution of the region providing value added, quality education in arts and science, an institution striding towards excellence! It is often said “Perfection is not attainable but if we chase perfection, we can catch excellence”. Yes, every college strives for excellence. So, do we at MES Asmabi. This year is very special to me for more than one reason. This year three teaching and five non teaching staffs of our college are going to retire. They are Dr K Shaji (HoD, Dept of Chemistry), Dr C A Ignatius (HoD, Dept of Aquaculture), Dr V R Jayalakshmi (HoD, Dept of Malayalam), Sri C P Mohammed Musthafa (Head Accountant), Smt Arifa P M (Libray Assistant) Smt Ally K K (LDC), Sri N M Kareem (Lab Assistant) and Sri A M Kunjumoideen (Lab Assistant). Let me take this opportunity to wish them the very best in their future endeavours. The current strength of students is 1650 out of which 1080 are girls. We have thirteen undergraduate programmes; five post graduate programmes, one research programme three career oriented courses, two diploma courses and two certificate courses. The total number of staffs includes 85 teaching staff and 26 non teaching staff. Our Teaching Staff comprises of 15 PhD holders, 15 M.Phil holders and 6 with both M.Phil and PhD. The academic activities of the college started on 1st June 2017. The results and grades of various departments are as follows:

Sefiya K M, Assistant Professor, PG Dept of Commerce relieved from her duty for Faculty Development Programme in connection with PhD work and Smt Remya P R joined in the FDP vacancy on 02nd June 2017.  World Environment Day Celebrations was held on 5th June 2017  Received 4 computers from the development fund of Sri E T Tyson Master MLA on 14th June 2017  An Ifthar meet was organized on 14th June 2017  Started the renovation work of Chemistry Lab  Ramzan Speech was conducted on15th June 2017. Sri Hazeeb Madani was the resource person  Reading week celebrations was organized by PG Dept of English from 19th June 2017  The Dept of Psychology has organized a program on 30th June 2017 in connection with the International Day against Drug abuse  The Ist year Degree classes started on 10th July 2017  An orientation programme was conducted for the Ist year Degree students on 13th July 2017. Dr Civy J Pulayath, National Trainer, JCI was the resource person  The Annual Alumni Directory 2017-18 was released on 17th July 2017. It was released by Sri P H Mohammed, Chairman, Standing Committee on MES Aided Colleges.  “Kranthi -17” - a Computer Literacy Programme for the public was conducted by BCA Dept on 18th July 2017 as a part of their extension activity. It was inaugurated by Sri E T Tyson MLA.

 Green Audit Report was handed over to the Principal by Dr C M Joy, Auditor, Green Audit on 20th July 2017  An IAS Coaching centre “Sumedha” was started at MES Asmabi College in association with Kaipamangalam Constitency. It was inaugurated on 22nd July 2017 by Dr K V Mohan Kumar IAS, Director, Public Instruction, Government of . Sri E T Tyson MLA, Sri K KAbidali, President, Mathilakom Block Panchayath, Sri Jyothis Mohan IRS, Income Tax Deputy Commissioner, Mumbai, Sri T Narayanan IPS, Superintendent of Police, etc were the guests. The Civil Service Winners 2017 viz. Dr SreeLakshmi, Dr Arun and Sri Vipin were also present  The Bhoomitrasena club of MES Asmabi College in association with PG & Research Dept. of Botany conducted various programmes as a part of ‘Karkkidakamaasacharam 2017’ on 1st and 2nd August 2017. Karkidakakanji and Pathila curry were prepared and distributed among the staff and local people.  The Dept of Physics organized a motivation talk for BSc Physics students on 2nd August 2017. Sri Dileep Kottilil, Senior Research Fellow, IIT, Chennai was the resource person.  The Commerce Department organized a seminar on Internet Banking to the public on 3rd August 2017 as a part of their extension activity.  Commerce Department organized an extension programme on “Implementation of GST; A practical session” to the merchants of Kara, Anchangadi and Asmabi College units on th August 2017. Sri Prasanth Menon (Director,Tax Study Centre,Thrissur) was the Resource Person.  College Union Election was held on 10th August 2017  A house was constructed by PTA of MES Asmabi College and handed over it to Miss Aswathy, IInd year BA Economics Student on 24th August 2017  As a part of Social Responsibility the College Managing Committee and PTA jointly distributed Onapudava on 30th August 2017 to the elderly people staying near to College. Around 75 Pudava were distributed  An orientation programme on CAT/KMAT was conducted for the final year degree students on 14th September 2017.

 A training programme was arranged for the parents of I BBA on 23rd September 2017. Dr Harish Kumar, Zonal President, JCI India was the resource person.  Ozone Day Celebrations was conducted on 26th September 2017. A talk on Ozone and its harmful effects on all life were delivered by Dr. Bindhu K. B., Dept. of Botany, Carmal College, Mala.  A women entrepreneurship development training programme was arranged for the Girl students of Ist and IInd PG on 26th September 2017. It was conducted in association with ED Club of MES Asmabi College and JCI India. Sri Praveen M K and Sri Jomi Joy, National Trainers, JCI India was the resource persons.  A career oriented one day Workshop “ASPIRE-Way to Higher Education and Research” was jointly organised by Walk With Scholar (WWS) programme, Departments of Political Science, History and Biochemistry on 27 September 2017. Dr Sri A M Shinas, Assistant Professor, Dept of History, KKTM College, Thrissur was the chief guest.  The Annual Alumni meet was held on 2nd October 2017  The Research and PG Dept of Botany and NSS jointly organized an intercollegiate seminar on “Climate Change Policy Making: Indian and Global Perspectives” on 5th October 2017. Miss Dhanasree Jayaram, Project Associate, Manipal Advanced Research Group (MARG), International Expert on Climate Change was the resource person  The annual Gold Medal distribution sponsored by Alumni Association of MES Asmabi College was held on 6th October 2017. Adv Backer Ali, Vice President, Mushriq Bank, Dubai and the alumni of our college inaugurated the function.  The College organised career training to final year BSc/BCA students on 19th October 2017. The trainer was Sri Binu Kaliyadan  The Women Development Cell of the College organised “Nirbhaya” training to girls students of our college on 20th October 2017  A training programme was organised for teachers on 21st October 2017. Dr Harish Kumar, Senior Trainer of JCI handled the programme  A meeting of Intellectual forum was held on 25th October 2017 at MES Medical College, Perinthalmanna

 The PG Department of Commerce conducted an inter departmental Management Fest on 20th November 2017  Sri Jasim Jamal, Ist BSc Physics won the first position in the Grand Finale of Super Voice – a reality show telecasted in the Asianet Plus Channel  The PG and Research Department of Botany organized a KSCSTE sponsored two day National Seminar on Angio Sperm Taxonomy on 22nd & 23rd November 2017  The delegates from Islamic Development Bank Jeddah, visited MES Asmabi College on 6th December 2017 as a part of providing financial assistance for the construction of Science Block  The College Union was inaugurated on 8th December 2017 by Cine Artist Sri Arjun Asokan  In association with Malayala Manorama “Nalla Paadam”, the college organised an awareness programme on Anti Drugs viz “Mayangaruth, Unaraam” on 11th December 2017. The programme was inaugurated by Sri Shahul Hameed, DySP, Chalakkudy. A poster design campaign was also organised.  The PG Department of Commerce in association with KSHEC and Federal bank organised a 3 day International Conference on “Changing Financial Scenario in India” on 20th, 21st and 22nd December 2017. It was inaugurated by Dr P Mohan, Hon Pro Vice Chancellor, . Dr Justin Paul (Professor, Graduate School of Business Administration, USA) delivered the Keynote Address on the topic “Globalization and New Business Environment with reference to Changing Landscape of Financial Sector”.  An orientation was conducted for the Civil Service Aspirants on 20th December 2018. Dr Neethu Sona IIS was the chief guest  The seven day NSS Special camp was held from 22nd to 28th December 2018 at Athirippilly Grama Panchayat and Vazhachal. CFR Mapping, anti plastic campaign was the major flagship programmes of the camp.  The ED Club of MES Asmabi College has won the award for the Best Performing ED Club (Second position) in and held First position in the College level which was instituted by the District Industries Centre (DIC), Thrissur. Sunil Kumar, Hon Minister for Agriculture on 5th January 2018  The Sumedha Club of MES Asmabi College conducted mega Quiz Festival, the biggest Quiz Festival of South India from 12th to 14th January 2018.  The College Arts Festival was held on 17th and 19th January 2018  The D-Zone Arts Festival was held at PMG College, Chalakudy from 22nd to 26th January 2018.  The PG Department of Commerce in association with KSHEC organised a 3 day National Level workshop on Research Methodology on 1st to 3rd February 2018. Dr Ravanan, Principal, Govt Arts College, Nagercoil was the Resource person.

 The Association of Mass Communication was inaugurated on 5th February 2018  A flash mob was organised to spread the awareness of ASAP on 6th February 2018  Gramika’18 – a social initiative of MES Asmabi College was inaugurated by Sri P Surendran, famous writer on 6th February 2018. The extension programme was held at 14 wards of 5 Grama Panchayaths viz. SN Puram, Mathilakom, Kaipamangalam, Edavilangu and Eriyad on 7th February 2018  A blood donation camp was organised by NCC Unit in association with Blood Kerala on 6th February 2018  Ramon Magsaysay Award Winner and famous social activist Sri Sandeep Pandey visited the college on 8th February 2018 He presented a talk on “ Indian Democracy – Waves of Transparency” and interacted with the students  World Wet Land Day celebrations was held on 8th February 2018 in association with KSCSTE  A seminar on “The present scenario of Higher Education in Kerala” was organised by the retiring staff on 9th February 2018. Dr Rajan Varghese, Member Secretary, Kerala State Higher Education Council was the resource person.  Four proposals of M.Sc Project have been sanctioned with financial assistance from KSCSTE.  The Association of English and Psychology was inaugurated on 12th February 2018  A staff get together was arranged on 14th February 2018  National Science Day Celebrations in association with KSCSTE was organised on 15th February 2018  The Association of Mathematics was inaugurated on 16th February 2018  The college honoured Kendra Sahithya Academy Award winner Sri K P Ramanunni on 23rd February 2018  As a part of the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations of Kerala Legislative Assembly and under the auspicious of Centre for Parliamentary studies and training the students made a visit to Niyamasabha on 24th February 2018.  The PG Department of Commerce organised an intercollegiate Management Fest Elysian 2018 on 27th February 2018

 The Calicut University Inter Zone Arts Festival was held at Sree Krishna College, Guruvayoor from 17th to 21st April 2018.  Research and PG Department of Botany in association with NSS Asmabi College conducted seminar on world environment day on 5th June 2017. Student from Fine Arts College participated on the occasion to convey environment day message through their drawings. Sri Rajesh Nalinakshan, DFO, of the Vazhachal Forest Division was the chief guest of the day.  The PG Dept of English organized Reading week celebration from 19th to 21st June. The inauguration was on 19th by Mrs. Radhika Sanoj, renowned writer. Second day the Endowments for the meritorious students were distributed. The chief guest was Dr. P.K. Suliekha., former Principal of MES College Marampally. On the third day film review competition was conducted. Film: Rabbit Proof Fence. The dept also conducted competitions like versification, elocution, etc.  The PG Department of Commerce has conducted an Inter departmental Quiz Competition in connection with Tax payer’s day on 24th July 2017 and Sri Nebhan of II B.Com Co-operation got I Prize.  Under the auspicious of the PG Dept of Economics, an Economic Club has been formed. The formal inauguration of the club activities has been done by Dr P. Chacko James, Associate Professor Dept of Economics, SH college Chalakkudy on 18th July 2017. Further to this, an invited talk on the topic “GST - is it a biggest tax reform” has

been conducted by Sri. Noushad Chengodan, Assistant Professor, Dept of Economics, PSMO College Thirurangadi. All students participated actively in the discussion.  The Bhoomitrasena club of MES Asmabi College in association with PG & Research Dept. of Botany conducted various programmes as a part of ‘Karkkidakamaasacharam 2017’ on 1st and 2nd August 2017. On 1st August, students collected the medicinal plants for preparing ‘Karkkidakakanji’ and ‘Pathilakkari’. They prepared and served the same to the staff of college and to the nearby houses and shops. An exhibition of ‘Dhaspushpam’ and various edible leaves which were commonly used in houses was also conducted.  On 2nd August a quiz programme based on Ramayanam was organized in which Dr. Jayalaksmi V.R. and Miss Liji Saleesh of Malayalam Dept. was the quiz masters. Winners were awarded with cash prizes. Prajith N.R. and Sreekuttan Babu of III BCom CA won the first prize, Babitha P.B. and Aiswarya C.R. of I BA English won the second prize and Ashma M.R. and Neenu P.A. of II BCA won the third prize. A talk by Dr. Siri Sooraj of Amruthsagar Ayurveda Hospital on the topic ‘Karkkidakacharyayum Aushadhasasyagalum’ was conducted in the seminar hall on 2nd August.  Four proposals of M.Sc Project have been sanctioned with financial assistance from KSCSTE.  As part of the ozone day celebrations 2017, the Bhoomithrasena Club and Research and PG Dept of Botany jointly organized various programs to awake the awareness about ozone layer on 26th September 2017. Focal theme for the year 2017 was “Caring for all life under the sun”. A talk on ozone and its harmful effects on all life were delivered by Dr. Bindhu K. Change, by Ms. Dhansree Jayaram, Project Associate, Manipal Advanced Research Group.  The Physical Education Dept conducted Calicut University Baseball Men Championship on 21st and 22nd October 2017.  The PG and Research Department of Botany organized a KSCSTE sponsored two day National Seminar on Angio Sperm Taxonomy on 22nd & 23rd November 2017  The PG and Research Department of Botany has collborated for the three days national conference held at Ernakulam “National Conference on FRA &CFR” on 19th to 21st November 2017 supported by HRLN, Vasundhara and Hornbill Foundation.  The ED Club of the College has organised DIC Sponsored Seminar on “Entrepreneurial Awareness Programme” on 24th November 2017 to ED Club Members. As a part of that programme the ED Club also conducted a Workshop on Making Household Cleaning Items and Best Marketing Manager Competition  The Physics Department has conducted an observation of sun spots as part of Sky watching programme for students of M.E.S.Higher Secondary School, P.Vemballur on 1st November 2017  The Department of Arabic has conducted an Inter National Arabic Day Celebration on 18th December 2017. Sri Abdul Wahid, Assistant Professor, Dept of Islamic History , MES Mampad College lead the session. Also conducted Calligraphy competition, Arabic song competition in connection with International Arabic Day  The Department organized a Three Day International Conference on “Changing Financial Scenario in India” on 20th, 21st and 22nd December 2017 .The Conference was inaugurated by Dr. P Mohan, Honourable Pro Vice-Chancellor of University of Calicut and Dr Justin Paul (Professor, Graduate School of Business Administration, USA) delivered the Keynote Address on the topic “Globalization and New Business Environment with reference to Changing Landscape of Financial Sector”.  The ED Club has won the award of the Best Performing ED Club (Second position) in Thrissur District and held First position in the College level which was instituted by the District Industries Centre (DIC), Thrissur.  The retiring staff of the college has conducted Inter Collegiate Quiz competition for students on 30th January 2018. Team from Sree Krishna College, Guruvayur bagged first prize and M.E.S Asmabi College got second prize in this competition.  The Astro-Club of Physics Department has conducted an observation of BLOOD SUPER MOON on 31st January 2018 from 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm. Large gathering of nearly 200 observed the grand event.  The PG Department of Commerce has organized a Three Day National level workshop on “Research Methodology by using SPSS and AMOS” on 1st, 2nd and 3rd February 2018. The Resource Person was Dr. R Ravanan, Principal, Government College of Arts and Science ,Nagarkoil  The PG Department of Commerce (Self Finance) has conducted an Inter Collegiate Management Fest “ELYSIAN 2K18” on 27th February 2018.  A seminar on “The present scenario of Higher Education in Kerala” was organised by the retiring staff on 9th February 2018. Dr Rajan Varghese, Member Secretary, Kerala State Higher Education Council was the resource person.  The Physics Department has conducted National Science day celebrations on 15th February 2018. Organised an Invited talk by Dr. K Soman from Energy Conservation Society, Trivandrum. Also conducted Essay writing competition for senior secondary students and Inter collegiate Collage competition Articles/Papers published/ presented by Faculty/Students  An article written by Dr K H Amitha Bachan, Asst Professor, Research and PG Department of Botany “Osbeckia walker Arn. (Melastomataceae) A New Record from Southern Western Ghats, India” was accepted by International Journal of Advanced Research  An article published by Dr. Mohamed Nasser K.M, HOD, Research and PG Dept of Botany -- C. C. Famina, A. Usman and. K. M. M .Nasser- Estimation of prevalence and population densities of banana nematodes in Kondotty-local Government Area, Kerala State, India. Pakistan Journal of Nematology (2017) 35 (2): 175-182  The paper titled “Green Accounting and Reporting: An Overview” of Smt. Thanzeela Ebrahim K, FIP substitute, PG Dept of Commerce was published in the Interdisciplinary Research journal “Research Scholar”, June 2017,Vol. 7,Issue no.2.

 The paper titled “An Overview of Foreign Direct investment in India” of Smt. Thanzeela Ebrahim K, FIP substitute, PG Dept of Commerce was published in the Research journal “Lux Montis”, July 2017, Vol. 5, Issue no.2.  The paper titled “Growth and innovations on finance through Sharia Compliance Investments” of Smt. Thanzeela Ebrahim K ,FIP substitute, PG Dept of Commerce was published in the “Research Lines”, August 2017,Vol 10,Issue No 1 , ISSN-0975- 8941.  Smt Princy Francis Assistant Professor, PG Dept of Commerce has presented a paper titled “Impact of Social Media towards e-commerce” in the National Seminar on “Research Methodology” held on 26th August 2017 at Maharajas College, Ernakulam  Dr A S Sumesh, Assistant Professor, Dept of Hindi acted as Editor in the book published “Challenges in contemporary literature” by Adwait Prakashan, New Delhi.  The paper titled “Demonetization and its impact on the Indian Economy” of Smt.  On 5th June 2017, World Environment Day, NSS Unit of MES Asmabi College and Fine Arts College, Thrissur jointly organized a ‘Chithrasamvadam’. A group of artists from Fine Arts College, Thrissur added colour to the canvas and explored the various dimensions of the relationship between man and nature. Dr K M Mohammed Nasar, HOD, Research and PG Department of Botany inaugurated the function.  On 13th June 2017, NSS arranged a platform for ‘God’s Own Country’ activists to stage their solo drama which focused on ecosystem preservation through afforestation.  Democratic Dialogue Platform; a platform for discussing latest issues, authors, books and other major concerns were inaugurated on 14th July 2017. Kodungallur based poet Sri Sebastian was the chief guest. The inaugural session was interactive and students cleared their queries on art and creativity in the session.  The first meeting of democratic dialogue on 21 July platform discussed about Vaikom Muhammed Basheer and his works. The session focused on the contributions made by Basheer, his politics and “Balyakala Sakhi”. 3 volunteers made presentations on Basheer.

 NSS volunteers created a platform SIGNATURE. This platform serves to address educational, social, environmental and other concerns. As a first initiative volunteers gave packed lunch to Brothers charitable society, N Paravur.  NSS Volunteers participated in the Walkathon organised by Alpha on 10th November, 2017 at Thrissur.  NSS Volunteers participated in the road safety campaign organised at SN College, Nattika on 11th November 2017.  Childrens day was celebrated on 14th November 2017. Students organised a variety of programmes at P. Vemballur Government LP School. Notebooks, Colour pencils were distributed to students.  A pre conference of 4th CFR conference ( Ernakulam) was held at Seminar Hall of our college. Smt. Dayamani Birla, activist inaugurated the programme on 18th November 2017.  NSS Volunteers participated in the 4 CFR conference at High Court Junction Ernakulam on 19th , 20th and 21st November 2017  A blood donation camp was organised in association with HDFC bank and IMA Aluva on 21st November 2017.  25 Volunteers attended training on palliative care at District Pallaitive Care Institute, Thrissur on 25th November 2017.  NSS Volunteers visited the Oakhi affected areas of coastal Kodungallur on 4th December 2017.  NSS Volunteers participated in the rehabilitation programme of Oakhi affected areas and cleaned 41 houses in Eriyad on 5th December 2017.  In association with HEPSN, NSS organised a talk on the rights of differently abled and women on 7th December 2017. Kerala High Court Advocate Smt Preetha led the session  NSS Volunteers participated in the cancer detection survey organised by friends of Kalariparambu, Mathilakom on 10th December 2017  NSS Volunteers coordinated a medical camp organised by friends of Kalariparambu, Mathilakom on 16th December 2017

 The seven day NSS camp was held from 22nd – 28th December at Athirappilly Grama Panchayat. CFR Mapping, anti plastic campaign was the major flagship programmes of the camp.  More than 25 volunteers participated in the anti drug awareness programme organised by Excise department on 9th January 2018 at Municipal Town Hall, Kodungallur. A flash mob was done by the volunteers.  NSS volunteers coordinated the quiz festival programme organised by SUMEDHA on 13th January 2018.  NSS Volunteers participated in training on palliative care organised by Thrissur Distict Palliative Care Society on 21st January 2018. 10 volunteers participated in the training.  K.R. Meeera’s “AARACHAR” was selected for discussion for democratic dialogue platform on 23rd January 2018.  Regular food distribution by NSS volunteers at Brothers Charitable Society, N.Paravur on 25th January 2018.  Regular distribution of food packets to Brothers Charitable Society, N.Paravur on 25th February 2018.  Signature platform an off shoot of NSS unit of our college collected Rs 70,000 as medical aid to support Soubin, a native of Thiruvananthapuram who is suffering from a serious skin related ailment. Extension activities

 ASAP TPS CET 2017, 21 day residential programme was conducted from May 9 to May 29, 2017. Smt Sabitha MM, Smt Amitha P.M and Smt Jameelathu K A, Assistant Professors, PG Dept of English handled the sessions. Smt Sabitha M M, Assistant Professor, PG Dept of English was the Course Director. External session was handled by Dr. Muralikrishnan T.R, HOD, PG Dept of English on 18th May 2017  ASAP summer skill school DOT programme, Assistant Beauty Therapist course was conducted from 25 April to 5 June 2017. Smt. Sajitha, SDE & beautician trainer handled the sessions. 15 students attended the course, 12 from MES Asmabi College and 3 from Carmel College, Mala. Trainees began their Internship on 6 June 2017.

The final assessment was conducted on 11 June 2017. Internship period was over on 28 June 2017.  ASAP Foundation Courses are in progress. 2015-16 Batch completed the sessions and attended APTIS test on 12 June 2017.  The Bhoomithrasena club members of MES Asmabi College, P. Vemballur visited Aquaponics system in a private sector which was funded by Marine Products Exports Development Authority (MPEDA) at Cherai, North Paravoor on 5th July 2017.  The members of Bhoomithrasena club went to a shelter for mentally challenged and physically handicapped persons at Pallithazham, North Paravoor on 5th July 2017. The members of BMC interacted with them and students distributed sweets and presented cultural programmes. Students also handed over their financial contribution to the authorities of the shelter.  8 girl students (4 each from I & II sem) of Dept of Aquaculture have participated in the Comprehensive Breast Cancer Survey at Kodungallur organized by Cochin Cancer Society on 13th July 2017  Under the auspicious of ECOSOC, the Economics Department initiated a new venture “THANAL”-Nurturing of Nature and Mankind. The formal inauguration of Thanal has been done by Sri. Shaji Azeez, renowned film Director on 31st July 2017. Further to this veneration of our respectful Principal, Dr Ajims P Muhammed is for his meritorious service is also arranged.  The Commerce Department organized an extension programme “Implementation of GST; A practical session” to the merchants of Kara, Anchangadi and Asmabi College units on 09th August 2017. Sri Prasanth Menon (Director,Tax Study Centre, Thrissur) was the Resource Person.  The ASAP Orientation for first year degree students was conducted on 17th October 2017.  59 students have applied for the ASAP Foundation course.  Sri Sanand C Sadananadakumar, , Assistant Professor, Dept of Politics has delivered an Extension lecture on “Politicising Malayalam Cinema” as part of Gensis 2017, organised by Department of History, St Josephs Autonomous College, Irinjalakuda on 6th October 2017.

 B Com Cooperation students visited Oakhi Cyclone hit areas in the Eriyad Panchayath and their main concern was about to clean the houses where the water has deposited black sand and mud.The students were sincerely served and helped the people who are staying in the relief camp of Oakhi Cyclone too  ASAP Foundation Batch 2017-18 commenced on 29th January 2018. Smt. Jasna Jamal handled the sessions from 3.30 pm to 4.30 pm for 33 students.  The II BBA students made a Peace Home Visit on 12th February 2018 at Peace Home Thrissur. Gramika activities

 The PG Department of Commerce has conducted various community extension programmes as a part of Gramika -2018 on 7th of February 2018 at AMI UP School, Eriyad and area near the school. The summarized list of the programmes are as follows: o Parenting classes on ‘Understanding the child’ is conducted by Sri V M George, Director of Self financing Programmes (Retd Associate Professor, PG Dept of Commerce) of MES Asmabi College, P Vemballur. o ‘Support the Library’ –Donated more than 200 Children’s Books to the School library. o Health and Hygiene Activities on the Oakhi cyclone affected areas in collaboration with The Homeopathic Medical Association of India. o Games and entertainments for school children.  All Staff and students of the Aquaculture Deparment took part in the extension work Gramika -2018 at TSunami colony, Azhikode. Training in the preparation of value added fishery products led by Dr. Ignatius, C. A was conducted. 62 people participated in the training programme. The programme was inaugurated by Sri M.K. Vemballur and AMLPS, Vemballur of S N Puram grama Panchayath on 7 Feb 2018.  As a part of Gramika the Department of Mass Communication has conducted an awareness programme on various vaccinations to children and pregnant women and conduted survey on the same at Emmad ward no 14 of Mathilakom Panchayath  The students of Dept of Mathematics have actively participated in the Extension activity “GRAMIKA 2018” on 7th February 2018. They conducted an Eye camp in 1st and 21st ward of S.N. Puram Grama Panchayath in association with Little Flower Hospital, Angamali. Nearly 125 people came for the camp and 16 were selected for free cataract operation.  The Dept of Physics has conducted activities related to GRAMIKA 2018 on 7th February 2018. Cleaning of Oakhi affected area and awareness class on disaster management by 1 BSc student Sri Sreerag S Kumar at Eriyad panchayat , ward 23  The Department of Economics has adopted the 2nd ward of Kaipamangalam Grama Panchayath for its social works. Association activities

 The Dept of Aquaculture organized study tours, factory visits, on the job training etc. V sem students undergone two days training in Carp Seed Production at National Fish seed Farm, Malampuzha on 25th& 26th July 2017.  Inauguration of Physics association was done by Dr. Nijo Varghese ( S H College, Chalakudy) on 31st January 2018  The Aquaculture association was inaugurated by Mrs. Geetha, P. District Manager, Matsyafed on 14th February 2018. She led a seminar on “Welfare activities of Matsyafed.  The English Association was inaugurated by Sri. Jain Lal V S, Associate Professor, SNM College, Maliankara on 12 February 2018.  The Mass Communication was inaugurated by Sri Nooranad Ramachandran (FILM MAKER) on 5th February 2018  The Mathematics Association inauguration was held on 16th February 2018. Sadguru award winner Sri Hareesh Kumar (Principal, Government Fisheries School, Kaipamangalam) inaugurated the function. He gave a lecture on “The introduction of Graph Theory”

NCC Activities

 Four cadets got selection to TSC/IGC second stage camp from 23rd June 2017 to 2nd July 2017. Campers were Sri Althaf E A (II BSc Aqua), Sri Harikrishnan A.G. (III BSc Psychology), Sri Yadhukrishna K.J. (II BA Mass) and Kum Snena Murali K. (III BBA). Four cadets got selection to RDC second stage camp started from 2nd September 2017.

( II BSc Aqua) and Sri Yadhukrishna K J (II BA Mass) participated TSC- Delhi from 17th September to 2nd October 2017 and won Silver Medal in Shooting Competition  Five cadets have participated in the Army Attachment Camp held at Thiruvananthapuram from 22nd onwards.94 cadets have participated in the centralized camp at SS College, Kaladi.  Kum Snena Murali K. (III BBA) and Sri Akshaya Sidhan (III BSc Aqua) have participated in the National Integration Camp held at Mangalore and Shamnas M.N (III BCA) participated in the National Integration Camp held at Assam.  35 NCC cadets wrote NCC ‘C’ certificate exam and 27 cadets wrote NCC ‘B’ certificate exam. NCC unit conducted Blood Donation camp on 6th Feb 2018.Students donated 74 units blood.

Sports activities

 Sri Ammar Ibnu Ayyoob K.A (II BSc Physics) has got selection to the Senior State Softball team and participated in the senior south zone national championship.  Sri Abhay M.M. (III BSc Aqua) and Sri Ammar Ibnu Ayyoob (II BSc Physics) got selection to Calicut University Baseball Coaching camp.

 Dr. Kesavan K, Assistant Professor, Dept of Aquaculture under took duty on 3rd January 2018 as subject expert for the interview to select lecturers to Lakshadweep centre of University of Calicut.  Dr C A Ignatius, Associate Professor, Dept of Aquaculture has acted as subject expert on 13th January 2018 to select lecturers (Aquaculture) to M.E.S Collegiate Service.  Sri Prasanth A P, Assistant Professor, PG Dept of Commerce has conducted a Class on “Data Analysis in SPSS” at Co-operative College, Kodungallur on 17th February 2018.

I am extremely privileged to see our college growing in leaps and bounds and I hope in the coming years the activities of the college would further diversify.
