With all your permission, let me present before you the 49th annual report of MES Asmabi College for the academic year 2017 – 18. The year 2017-18 was marked with many events and success stories. Forty Nine years for an institution is a worthy stage where one can start matching expectations with results, objectives with achievements and above all, blessings enjoyed with difficulties & hardships endured! MES Asmabi College has emerged as an arts and science college with difference, a promising institution of the region providing value added, quality education in arts and science, an institution striding towards excellence! It is often said “Perfection is not attainable but if we chase perfection, we can catch excellence”. Yes, every college strives for excellence. So, do we at MES Asmabi. This year is very special to me for more than one reason. This year three teaching and five non teaching staffs of our college are going to retire. They are Dr K Shaji (HoD, Dept of Chemistry), Dr C A Ignatius (HoD, Dept of Aquaculture), Dr V R Jayalakshmi (HoD, Dept of Malayalam), Sri C P Mohammed Musthafa (Head Accountant), Smt Arifa P M (Libray Assistant) Smt Ally K K (LDC), Sri N M Kareem (Lab Assistant) and Sri A M Kunjumoideen (Lab Assistant). Let me take this opportunity to wish them the very best in their future endeavours. The current strength of students is 1650 out of which 1080 are girls. We have thirteen undergraduate programmes; five post graduate programmes, one research programme three career oriented courses, two diploma courses and two certificate courses. The total number of staffs includes 85 teaching staff and 26 non teaching staff. Our Teaching Staff comprises of 15 PhD holders, 15 M.Phil holders and 6 with both M.Phil and PhD. The academic activities of the college started on 1st June 2017. Princy Francis, Assistant Professor, Dept of Commerce, MES College, Marampally has joined in the PG Dept of Commerce, MES Asmabi College in the transfer vacancy of Smt. Mumna Nasar. 3 Dr Sumesh A S, Assistant Professor, Dept of Hindi, MES College, Nedumkandam has joined in the Dept of Hindi, MES Asmabi College in the transfer vacancy of Dr Ranjith M Smt Sakeena M K, Assistant Professor, Dept of Arabic, MES College, Mampad has joined in the Dept of Arabic, MES Asmabi College in the transfer vacancy of Dr Firdousmon K. Smt Dhanya K, Assistant Professor, PG Dept of Economics, MES College, Mampad has joined in the P G Dept of Economics, MES Asmabi College in the transfer vacancy of Sri Mujeeb Rahman Smt. Sefiya K M, Assistant Professor, PG Dept of Commerce relieved from her duty for Faculty Development Programme in connection with PhD work and Smt Remya P R joined in the FDP vacancy on 02nd June 2017. World Environment Day Celebrations was held on 5th June 2017 Received 4 computers from the development fund of Sri E T Tyson Master MLA on 14th June 2017 An Ifthar meet was organized on 14th June 2017 Started the renovation work of Chemistry Lab Ramzan Speech was conducted on15th June 2017. Sri Hazeeb Madani was the resource person Reading week celebrations was organized by PG Dept of English from 19th June 2017 The Dept of Psychology has organized a program on 30th June 2017 in connection with the International Day against Drug abuse The Ist year Degree classes started on 10th July 2017 An orientation programme was conducted for the Ist year Degree students on 13th July 2017. Dr Civy J Pulayath, National Trainer, JCI was the resource person The Annual Alumni Directory 2017-18 was released on 17th July 2017. It was released by Sri P H Mohammed, Chairman, Standing Committee on MES Aided Colleges. “Kranthi -17” - a Computer Literacy Programme for the public was conducted by BCA Dept on 18th July 2017 as a part of their extension activity. It was inaugurated by Sri E T Tyson MLA. 4 Green Audit Report was handed over to the Principal by Dr C M Joy, Auditor, Green Audit on 20th July 2017 An IAS Coaching centre “Sumedha” was started at MES Asmabi College in association with Kaipamangalam Constitency. It was inaugurated on 22nd July 2017 by Dr K V Mohan Kumar IAS, Director, Public Instruction, Government of Kerala. Sri E T Tyson MLA, Sri K KAbidali, President, Mathilakom Block Panchayath, Sri Jyothis Mohan IRS, Income Tax Deputy Commissioner, Mumbai, Sri T Narayanan IPS, Superintendent of Police, Thrissur etc were the guests. The Civil Service Winners 2017 viz. Dr SreeLakshmi, Dr Arun and Sri Vipin were also present The Bhoomitrasena club of MES Asmabi College in association with PG & Research Dept. of Botany conducted various programmes as a part of ‘Karkkidakamaasacharam 2017’ on 1st and 2nd August 2017. Karkidakakanji and Pathila curry were prepared and distributed among the staff and local people. The Dept of Physics organized a motivation talk for BSc Physics students on 2nd August 2017. Sri Dileep Kottilil, Senior Research Fellow, IIT, Chennai was the resource person. The Commerce Department organized a seminar on Internet Banking to the public on 3rd August 2017 as a part of their extension activity. Commerce Department organized an extension programme on “Implementation of GST; A practical session” to the merchants of Kara, Anchangadi and Asmabi College units on th August 2017. Sri Prasanth Menon (Director,Tax Study Centre,Thrissur) was the Resource Person. College Union Election was held on 10th August 2017 A house was constructed by PTA of MES Asmabi College and handed over it to Miss Aswathy, IInd year BA Economics Student on 24th August 2017 As a part of Social Responsibility the College Managing Committee and PTA jointly distributed Onapudava on 30th August 2017 to the elderly people staying near to College. Around 75 Pudava were distributed An orientation programme on CAT/KMAT was conducted for the final year degree students on 14th September 2017. 5 A training programme was arranged for the parents of I BBA on 23rd September 2017. Dr Harish Kumar, Zonal President, JCI India was the resource person. Ozone Day Celebrations was conducted on 26th September 2017. A talk on Ozone and its harmful effects on all life were delivered by Dr. Bindhu K. B., Dept. of Botany, Carmal College, Mala. A women entrepreneurship development training programme was arranged for the Girl students of Ist and IInd PG on 26th September 2017. It was conducted in association with ED Club of MES Asmabi College and JCI India. Sri Praveen M K and Sri Jomi Joy, National Trainers, JCI India was the resource persons. A career oriented one day Workshop “ASPIRE-Way to Higher Education and Research” was jointly organised by Walk With Scholar (WWS) programme, Departments of Political Science, History and Biochemistry on 27 September 2017. Dr Sri A M Shinas, Assistant Professor, Dept of History, KKTM College, Thrissur was the chief guest. The Annual Alumni meet was held on 2nd October 2017 The Research and PG Dept of Botany and NSS jointly organized an intercollegiate seminar on “Climate Change Policy Making: Indian and Global Perspectives” on 5th October 2017. Miss Dhanasree Jayaram, Project Associate, Manipal Advanced Research Group (MARG), International Expert on Climate Change was the resource person The annual Gold Medal distribution sponsored by Alumni Association of MES Asmabi College was held on 6th October 2017. Adv Backer Ali, Vice President, Mushriq Bank, Dubai and the alumni of our college inaugurated the function. The College organised career training to final year BSc/BCA students on 19th October 2017.
