COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES May 16, 2019

A meeting of the Senate Committee on Health Policy and Human Services was scheduled for Thursday, May 16, 2019, at 1:00 p.m., in the 1100 Room of the Binsfeld Building.

The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Reported HB 4225 (S-1) (Rep. Kahle) with recommendation and immediate effect. 2. Reported SCR 8 (Sen. VanderWall) with recommendation.

The Chairman called the meeting to order at 1:01 p.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chairman VanderWall, Sen.(s) Bizon, Johnson, LaSata, MacDonald, Theis, Brinks, Santana, and Wojno, a quorum was present.

The Chairman entertained a motion by Sen. Bizon to adopt the meeting minutes from May 9, 2019. Without objection, the minutes were adopted.

The Chairman offered, and summarized, an (S-1) version to HB 4225.

The Chairman read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding HB 4225: Rebecca Mastee, Michigan Catholic Conference – Support

The Chairman entertained a motion by Sen. Johnson to adopt the (S-1) version of HB 4225. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chairman VanderWall, Sen.(s) Bizon, Johnson, LaSata, MacDonald, Theis, Brinks,Santana, and Wojno Nays: None The motion prevailed and the (S-1) was adopted.

At 1:04 p.m., the Chairman called for the committee to go at ease.

At 1:05 p.m., Sen. Hertel entered the meeting.

At 1:05 p.m., with all members present, the Chairman reconvened the committee. Page 1 of 2 The Chairman entertained a motion by Sen. Bizon to report the (S-1) version of HB 4225 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chairman VanderWall, Sen.(s) Bizon, Johnson, LaSata, MacDonald, Theis, Brinks, Hertel, Santana, and Wojno Nays: None The motion prevailed and the bill was reported.

The Chairman made a motion to recommend immediate effect for HB 4225 (S-1). Without objection, immediate effect was recommended.

The Chairman summarized SCR 8.

The Chairman entertained a motion by Sen. Bizon to report SCR 8 to the floor with recommendation that it adopted. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chairman VanderWall, Sen.(s) Bizon, Johnson, LaSata, MacDonald, Theis, Brinks, Hertel, Santana, and Wojno Nays: None The motion prevailed and the resolution was reported.

There being no further business before the committee, the Chairman moved to adjourn the committee. Without objection, the committee was adjourned at 2:04 p.m.
