BACKGROUND

Stichting KAALO Netherlands (SKN) is an international NGO, was founded in 1995 by Somali Dutch intellectuals. The purpose is to provide sustainable livelihoods projects to support the most vulnerable communities in the areas of food and shelter, education and skill development programs, health facilities, water and sanitation, livelihoods projects of food security, child protection and human rights, and empowering of poor women, and young people to reduce poverty, and unemployment in Somalia. This active organization is one of the initiators of many reconstruction projects in Somalia. Naturally, Stichting KAALO Nederland works closely with partners in Somalia. The starting point is always the demand and needs of the vulnerable community and internally displaced peoples including poor children, youth and women. This has created an indispensable support base.

KAALO Netherlands works with local organizations to sustainable development projects for the people of Puntland in Somalia. Stichting Kaalo Netherlands supported and implemented many projects of building of shelters, schools, hospitals and the construction of water reservoirs, and the fishing projects in Somalia a huge impulse. Kaalo Netherlands is active with and for young people. Young people have in Somalia more chances of one hopeful future required to radicalization against to go and they too save for the dangerous one trip to Europe.

The SKN focuses on sustainable development projects that directly meet the needs of the local population. For a long time, the emphasis was on projects in the area of education and health. Helping mothers and children from the nomadic and farming communities is another central theme. At the moment attention is focused on the (vulnerable) young people in the state of Puntland, starting in the capital Garowe.

The SKN also offers support to people and organizations that are committed to improving the life situation in Puntland. The extensive fishing project in is an example Projects of this. Kaalo Nederland uses this to pull the population out of the doldrums economically. Stichting KAALO Netherlands (SKN) has succeeded for the implementation of many livelihood projects to support sustainable development of vulnerable community, and helping mothers and children from remove villages in Puntland, these projects include: Construction and rehabilitation of New Waberi Primary School (2006), Primary School in Budunbuto (2007), Supporting of women on the board of Puntland Project (2007), building and women training project in Resource Center library (2008) at Puntland Community College now called Puntland State University, Construction and rehabilitation project of Caana-yaskax Primary School (2008), Homes for displaced families (2008-2009) in Budunbuto village in Nugal region, Twins educational implementation projects (2009) in Nugal region, constructed and supported school for handicapped children in Garowe (2009), Primary school in Birtadheer (2009), Preparation of fishing project in Eyl (2011), Clean drinking water Project for Budunbuto village (2012-2013), Professional fishing and fish processing in Eyl (2013-2014), Fishing and fish processing Phase II Project in (2015), Youth Center Project in , Puntland (2016), Establishment of the Youth and City Center project in Garowe, Puntland (2017), Safe drinking water Project in Camp Shabeelle (2018), and Puntland Fishing Project For Impoverished Nomads in Garowe and Eyl districts (2018). Stichting KAALO Netherlands (SKN) stands for helping poor communities including women and children in Puntland and whole Somalia regions to fight hunger, poverty, unemployment impacts, youth migration, piracy, and to improve social wellbeing through education, skill development, improving health services, water and sanitation, and livelihoods for food security and humanitarian base assistance projects.

SKN VISION

 SKN strives the forth coming sustain the livelihoods of poor community in Somalia and see a stable and economically strong to Somali community living in peace, prosperity, and poor community has strong and see to overcome hunger, poverty, and unemployment.

SKN MISSION  SKN enhancing and supporting livelihoods of poor communities in Somalia through environmentally sound and sustainable development while focusing on solidarity with the poor communities, advocacy, transparency, human rights and volunteerism.

OBJECTIVES

1) Provide food and shelters to inhabitants of Puntland. 2) Provide medical assistance and stimulate healthcare and hygiene, and increased sustainable access to safe water and sanitation services for men, women and children in IDPs camps and remote villages. 3) Promote small-scale development programs. 4) Supervising the restoration of health care facilities and hospitals found 5) Improving education and building schools to empower young people from poor communities in Somalia. 6) Enhance education and skills training access to youth and adults to promote employment opportunities. 7) Supporting and constructing of water reservoirs in IDPs camps and remote villages. 8) Promote and advocate for gender sensitive approaches to enhance women’s rights and girl- child education and strengthen the participation and involvement of women and vulnerable groups in programs and organization. 9) Promote fishing in Somalia to simulate local economic development and business development. 10) Improve the protection of and respect for the human rights and dignity of vulnerable populations with a special focus on IDPs, women, children and marginalized groups through effective advocacy and the application of a rights-based approach across all sectors. 11) Exchanging experiences between local communities and in the Netherlands.

Stichting KAALO Netherlands (SKN) focuses on seven core program areas and three cutting issues primarily integrated into the other core program areas, and each core area consisted twins programs:

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE AND MANAGEMENT

Stichting KAALO Netherlands (SKN) is structured non-government organization that sets down all the organizational affairs. The Board of Directors safe-guards the assets of the organization, carries out fund raising and works out the policies and regulations of the organization. The Board of Directors oversees the organization. The day to day management of the organization is conducted by management team led by the Program Coordinator and supervising to both operational and finance managers to the officers and other project staffs, and volunteers.
