FLEET TOWN V EVESHAM UNITED MATCH SPONSORED by the FLEET TOWN MASSIV FLEET TOWN v EVESHAM UNITED MATCH SPONSORED BY THE FLEET TOWN MASSIV Saturday December 8th 2018 – 3.00 P.M Evo-Stik League South Division 1 South Today’s Fleet Town ‘Man of the Match’ is Sponsored by Easi–Leaflets http://easi-leaflets.com SPONSORED BY A WELCOME FROM OUR MANAGER DAVE KELLY Good afternoon and welcome to Calthorpe Park the home of Fleet Town F.C. for today’s Evo-Stik League South Division 1 South fixture. In particular the Committee, Players, Management and supporters of our visitors Evesham United. It has been a busy couple of weeks for us with players leaving and new players being added to a young squad, we are delighted to sign Sam Williams and Kofi Halliday recently who have both been excellent additions. We continue to build with the squad we have and just look to add those little pieces of quality going forward. Results have not been great in the last week playing 3 games in 6 days. Despite the results there have seen some good performances. Against Winchester City it was a tight game that could have gone either way. Cirencester was ‘a bad day at the office’ but credit to them they were far more experienced than us and gave a young team a lesson in managing the game. Southampton in the Hampshire Senior Cup on Monday was a great experience, we played some terrific football against a full time outfit and did not look out of place. The game is all about small margins, where a little mistake can be punished. Credit to the players on the night as they showed great discipline to stay in the game and cause The Saints a lot of problems especially in the second half. The highest compliment to us being that they took the ball in to the corner to see the game out, Premier League against Step 4 of the Non-League pyramid ! Who says you can't play good football in the Non League. It has filled the coaching team with great confidence watching the performance on Monday that with how we set ourselves up and what can be achieved with good coaching and that results will continue to come for this young team. Please continue your support, keep believing and it will not be long before we rise up the league. ‘Come on you Blues ‘ Dave ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ CHAIRMAN: Alec Grant YOUTH TEAM MANAGER: Neil Selby VICE CHAIRMAN : Richard Whittington COMMITTEE MEMBERS: WEBSITE MANAGERS : Harry Cannon & Matt Thorne Alec Grant, Richard Whittington, CLUB WELFARE OFFICER : Chris Arnold Harry Cannon, Darren Edwards Nathan Cookson & Sam Waters CLUB SAFETY OFFICER : Lyn Bevan CLUB SECRETARY : Richard Whittington PROGRAMME EDITOR : Martin Griffiths HEAD OF FOOTBALL : Sam Waters CLUB SHOP MANAGER : Claire Whittington FIRST TEAM MANAGER : David Kelly HOSPITALITY : Carol Black ASSISTANT MANAGER : Tommy Taylor TEA BAR : Maria Horsenail FIRST TEAM COACH : Chris Neate GROUNDSMAN ; Bryan Smith SPORTS THERAPIST : Edward Hensby 01252 623804 www.fleettownfc.co.uk Fleet Town F.C. However, a club did exist in Evesham prior to the War, the “Town” reaching the F.A. Amateur Cup Final in 1923, losing 1 – 2 after extra time to London Caledonians at Crystal Palace. Starting in the 1951/52 season, in the club’s first five years in the Worcestershire Combination they were League Champions twice and runners-up on two occasions, their lowest position being third in that first season. In 1956 they left to join the Birmingham League and followed this with a move to the Warwickshire League in 1959 before returning to the Worcester (now Midland Combination) in 1963. They won the league title four times (1965/66, 1967/68, 1968/69, and 1991/92) and reached the Challenge Cup Final on six occasions, lifting the trophy in 1988 and 1992. Initially the club played at Crown Meadow, moving to Common Road in 1968 and opening the clubhouse in 1975. A terrific season in 1991/92 saw the club complete a memorable double of Midland Combination Premier Division Champions, thus achieving promotion to the Southern League Midlands Division, and the Combination Challenge Cup. They also reached the quarter final of the F.A.

Press Release News…Results…News…Results…Tables… ISSUE No. 38 WEEK ENDING 2nd May REVIEW OF THE WEEK Both Premier Division Play-Off semi-finals went to extra-time with ILKESTON TOWN edging out KENDAL TOWN in a seven goal thriller whilst NANTWICH TOWN, promoted via the play-offs last season, made the top tier Final when pipping GUISELEY 2-1. The Final also went to extra time to demonstrate just how competitive the Premier Division has been this season and after playing the role bridesmaid twice already this season ILKESTON TOWN finally made it to the altar beating Nantwich 2-1 in front of a crowd approaching 2,000. Just as in the top Division it was second and third place teams BELPER TOWN and STOCKSBRIDGE PS who made the First Division South play-off final with the latter having a convincing 5-2 win thanks to a Mark Ward treble against CARLTON TOWN whilst Belper needed just the one goal to oust RUSHALL OLYMPIC. In the Final it was third place Stocksbridge that came out on top thanks to one strike from Andy Ring. There was a big shock in the First Division North play-offs, however, when CURZON ASHTON knocked out second place SKELMERSDALE UNITED after finishing a massive eighteen points adrift of “Skem” whose manager Tommy Lawson must hate the end of season lottery having lost three times in it, twice with Skelmersdale in the last two seasons and once previously with Prescot Cables. NEWCASTLE BLUE STAR then set up the possibility of a North East promotion double following Durham’s success in lifting the title the previous Saturday when they beat COLWYN BAY on penalties on Wednesday and they duly obliged after Curzon failed to repeat their midweek heroics going down 4-1 at Blue Star.

TT1112-133 TT No.133: Andy Gallon - Sun 1st January 2012; Stockport County v Barrow; Conference National; Res: 3-2; Att: 3,301 (341 away); Admission: £16; Programme: £3 (68pp); FGIF Match Rating: *****. It is a crying shame that Edgeley Park never having looked so good coincides with impoverished Stockport County being at their lowest ebb. Yet another Northern club to lose Football League status, the unhappy Hatters, their century-plus membership of the elite curtailed abruptly last May, are enduring an utterly miserable debut season in Conference National. This victory, barely deserved, was only their fourth in 27 league games. No wonder County’s long-suffering fans, several of whom around us had clearly become embittered by the struggles and disappointments of recent seasons, were so overjoyed to hear the final whistle. Terminal decline cannot be much fun. The tip-top upkeep of Edgeley Park owes at least as much to the presence of Sale Sharks rugby union club as the efforts of County, who are now very much the junior partner in a long-standing sharing arrangement. Rugby union, certainly at the top level, appears to be awash with cash, and Edgeley Park, all-seated these days, has benefited accordingly. County might have begun the transformation, but Sale ensure the good work does not go to waste. The well-heeled types who tend to watch rugby union will not (on the whole) tolerate the inadequate facilities found so frequently away from the apex of football’s pyramid. Everywhere you look at Edgeley Park is spick and span. Acres of blue paint and ranks of blue seats tie together very neatly the ground’s four disparate stands.

I extend that welcome to our match day officials and again hope Messrs Bougouizi, Kelly & Kaya enjoy their very brief stay with us in The Great Park. It has been an excellent past few weeks. Seven wins on the bounce and plenty of goals. We've also managed to keep a number of clean sheets, which is as pleasing as the goals flying in. The challenge now is to forget the last seven matches and start again. We have to apply the same levels of intensity and commitment and see if we can do it all over! At time of going to print we have just found out that we have been drawn at home in the Quarter Final of the Berks & Bucks against the winners of the tie between Ascot United & MK Dons. We have attempted to keep you updated with the most recent round of fixture changes and these are noted in this issue. One sad piece of news is the passing of Jimmy Hartridge. We would like to issue a warm welcome to the Players, Officials and Supporters that have made the journey from Evesham and we hope you enjoy your evening with us and have a safe journey home. Since we last played at home, the Citizens were beaten 3-2 away at Barnstaple Town. Thanks to all of the supporters that made the long journey to North Devon. Whilst Oli Bailey and Tyrell Mitford were both on target for the Red & Black Army, it wasn’t enough, and we unfortunately lost the game. On Saturday 10th November, WCFC made the short journey to Fleet Town. The pitch was checked by Fleet officials first thing on the Saturday morning and it was playable and no further inspections were required. When the officials arrived, they checked the pitch with Davo and confirmed that it was fit to play. However, shortly afterwards, the officials then returned to the pitch before then deciding that it was not fit to play and at 13:45 the game was called off. Thank-you to everyone that made the journey to Fleet, and an alternative date for this fixture will be announced in due course.
