Establishment of the Trusteeship Council

The Truste,eship Council, one of the six principal organs of the United Nations, is established by -Art~cle 86 of the Charter of the United Nations. The Council consists of 'the following Memberb of tlie United Nations: (a) those Members administering Trust Territories;' (b) such ofthoea Members mentioned by name in Article 23 of the Charter of the United Nations as are not administering Trust Territories; and (c) as mny other Members elected for three-year terms bY' the General Assembly BS may be necessary to ensure that tbe total number ot

During its seventh session, the Trusteeship Council decided to send a visiting mission to the Trust Territories in East Africa in 1951. During its eighth 88ssion, ,the Council appointed Mr. Enrique de Marchena (Dominican Republic) and Morit Chao Dllokrit Kr1dakon (Thailand) as meufbers of the Mission. During its ninth ses~ion, the Council appointed Mr. G.R. Laking (New Zealand) and Mr. W1l1iam Cargo (United States of America), and decided that Mr. Enrique de Marcbena would be Chairman of the Mission. At its 366th plenary meeting, 5 July 1951, the Council adopted the terms of reference of the Mission.
