The "Endless Forms Most Beautiful" title came from Charles Darwin 's "The Origin Of Species" book, where he wrote: "There is grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed into a few forms or into one; and that, while this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved." It is a 2D platformer in which your goal is to guide your nice little protagonist through a series of labyrinths, rescuing all of the creatures that need your help. The mechanics are very simple. Your protagonist will start at the upper part of the scene and you have to descend down into different levels using the platforms that are set up to allow you to do so as you rescue all of the creatures and avoid the different enemies. It's not as easy as it sounds. You have to keep a lot of factors in mind. First of all, when you leave one of the levels on one side, you will appear at the extreme opposite side on the next level, and by doing so you can go up a level or down a level. Whether it's lilting Celtic folk-rock ("Élan"), Enya-esque fantasy-pop ("The Eyes of Sharbat Gula"), or straight-up, anthemic ("My Walden"), she never overplays her hand, but she also never gets lost in the mix, which is impressive considering the swirling cacophony of sound cooked up by Holopainen and crew. Overall, Endless Forms Most Beautiful succeeds despite its strict adherence to the Nightwish formula.
