Mrs. Kaleen R. Hernandez Kaleen R. Hernandez is the Director of Bands for Prestwick STEM Academy. She received her Bachelor’s degree in from the University of North Texas. She studied under notable professors such as Christopher Deane, Ed Smith, Paul Rennick, and Jose Aponte. Mrs. Hernandez is Orff Level 1 Certified and taught elementary music for 7 years in Garland ISD. She directed choir, recorder, and Orff/percussion ensembles on her campus that received many first division and best in class awards.

From 2013-16, Mrs. Hernandez taught private percussion and piano lessons in Little Elm and surrounding north Texas areas. She continues to serve as a bass line marching tech, UIL region clinician, and UIL All- Region judge.

Mrs. Hernandez graduated with her Master’s degree in music education from Texas A&M University- Commerce. She had the privilege of studying under Mrs. Darla Meek, Dr. Randall Hooper, Dr. Norman Wick, and Dr. David Scott. In 2016, she had the honor of presenting at a music educator’s workshop for A&M Commerce as well as a TMEA workshop in Richardson.

Mrs. Hernandez is a member of Texas Bandmasters Association, Texas Music Educators Association, Percussive Arts Society, and American Orff-Schulwerk Association. She is married with two adorable sons and a spunky Maltese poodle. Aside from music, her hobbies include playing golf and being an avid TX Rangers fan!

Mr. Mariano Aguirre 2018-2019 is my fifth year in LEISD at Prestwick STEM Academy, and 13th year teaching music. I am from Farmers Branch, graduating from R.L.Turner in 1996. I began college at Oklahoma State University and transferred as an undergrad to The University of Texas at Arlington where I completed my bachelor of music. I taught for six years at Maple Lawn Elementary in Dallas ISD, then two years at Freeman Elementary in Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD.

I moved my family to Little Elm six years ago and we love it here! My wife and I have six children including two graduates and two children from LEHS, one child at Prestwick, and one four-year-old.

After college, I was able to pursue and become Level III Certified in American Orff-Schulwerk Association, completing the courses at Southern Methodist University continuing education courses. He writes his bio in first person, except for the last sentence.

Matt Neal Matt Neal is currently the percussion director/assistant director at Little Elm High School in Little Elm ISD. He coordinates all aspects of the high school percussion program, as well as instruction of the beginning percussion classes, middle school percussion sections and percussion ensembles. Mr. Neal held the same position at Creekview High School in Carrollton-Farmers Branch from 2013-2017, Rockwall-Heath High School in Rockwall, Texas, for the 2012-2013 school year and North Lamar High School in Paris, Texas, from 2005-2012. Mr. Neal’s students have been recognized at the state and national level in all areas of performance, including concert and marching percussion ensemble, and in their solo endeavors.

Since 2004 Mr. Neal has been a percussion instructor and the music coordinator for the Red River Drum and Auxiliary Camp, an annual summer camp providing instruction for marching percussion, color guard and drum majors. It is one of the largest and most successful summer camps of its kind in the country. From 2007 to 2010 Mr. Neal was the percussion arranger/writer for the Southeastern Oklahoma State University Marching Band in Durant, Oklahoma.

Mr. Neal graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, Oklahoma, with a degree in Music Performance in 2003. Following his time at SOSU, he earned a Master’s degree from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in Percussion Performance in 2005. Mr. Neal currently resides in Dallas, Texas with his wife Angela, an Orff specialist and the elementary music teacher in Frisco ISD.

Mrs. Christine Gibson, Principal Ms. Christine Gibson serves the students of Little Elm ISD as the principal at Prestwick STEM Academy. Most recently, she served as assistant principal of Hackberry Elementary School. Gibson joined Little Elm ISD in 2004 as Bilingual Pre-Kindergarten 3-year-old teacher at King Early Learning Academy. She later served at Hackberry Elementary as a Bilingual Kindergarten teacher.

Prior to joining Little Elm ISD, Ms. Gibson worked with El Paso Independent School District as a kindergarten teacher at Milam Elementary School located on Biggs Army Airfield. She then moved to Dallas/Fort Worth and earned her Master's Degree in Behavioral Sciences from the University of Texas at Dallas. Prior to joining the district, Gibson worked with children with disabilities, birth to three years, as an Early Intervention Specialist.

Ms. Gibson earned her Bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a specialization in Early Childhood Education from the University of Texas at El Paso.

Exploration Choir Exploration meets every day for 6th period and includes students from each grade in middle school. The primary focus of Exploration Choir is to continue to develop through performance and performs several times through throughout the school year. Students are encouraged to participate in choir each year of middle school in preparation for the rigors of high school choir. Exploration Choir performed student-chosen popular repertoire in September, followed by a performance at Victoria Gardens of Frisco Retirement Home and The Community Nativity in Carrollton.

Elementary Choir Elementary Choir rehearses weekly on Wednesday’s after school. This group of dedicated young musicians has the opportunity to grow through the challenge of one- and two-part singing. The Elementary Choir recently performed alongside the Exploration Choir at Victoria Gardens of Frisco Retirement Home and The Community Nativity in Carrollton.

Concert Band Concert Band meets in sections throughout each school day. The whole concert band meets once a week on Wednesdays after school. Concert band builds upon the foundational skills students learned in Beginner Band. Concert Band prepares students to continue their band careers in High School through exciting, engaging, challenging, and rewarding repertoire. The Concert Band recently played for retirement homes in Frisco, bringing joy and pleasure to the residents.

Beginner Band Beginner Band meets each day by instrument. Many students come in with no more knowledge about playing instruments than when they tried the instruments before the year began. They begin intensive study of the techniques of performance on their specific instrument, along with a strong dose of music theory and literacy. They rehearse as a band once a week. Many of the students take private lessons to enrich their instrumental studies.

Guitar Ensemble There are two Guitar Ensembles and they meet daily. 1st Period (8 o’clock Guitar Ensemble) and 7th Period (3 o’clock Guitar Ensemble). Each of the guitar ensembles are equal in that they are composed of both beginners and students with up to two years of guitar instruction. They learn to hold and play the classical guitar (nylon string) in the classical manner. This includes plucking the strings with ‘pima’ fingers, playing with a footstool, and in the proper seated position. The Guitar Ensembles perform on stage once per semester.
