Vastavalt sellele on püütud valida tuimuseid, mis on nähtavad palja silmaga või kuni 20-kordse suurendusega luubiga. Seltsidest on välja jäetud mõned väikesed, harvako ha tavad pinna sepu tukad (Prptura, Dlplura)f teiste loomade siseparasiidid ( Strepsiptera) Ja alalised väi ispara siidid (МаЫорЬа§а, Anoplu ra, Aphanlpte- ra). Seltsid) millede liikide määramine nõuab mlkroefcoopi- lise ehituse uurimist, on toodud alamseltsini või sugukon nani (Рофда, Thy s^optera). Ülevaate saamiseks seltside liigilisest koostisest on iga seltsi (või alamseltsi) ees toodud käsiteldud liikide nimestik. Nimestikus sulgudes toodud taksoneid pole määra mi stab el it esse sisse võetud. Liikide osas, mis Bestie pole seni kindlaks tehtud, kuid võiksid meil tõenäoliselt esi neda, on nimetatud naabermaid, kus neid on täheldatud. Fau- n is t ilis e lt nõrgalt uuritud rühmade juures (kevlkulised, karillsed, lehetäilised, kilptäilised) ei ole seda print siipi kasutatud. Määraja on mõeldud eeskätt TRÜ bioloogiaosakonna üli õpilastele käsiraamatuks välipraktikal. Seetõttu eeldatak se, et määraja kasutajal on põhilised entomoloogilised mõis ted juba tuttavad. Vastasel korral on kasulik eelnevalt tutvuda putukate kehaehituse iseärasustega kirjanduse põh jal: V.Maavara "Noore entomoloogi käsiraamat", TLn., 1956. ja G.Abrikossov jt. "Selgrootute zooloogia", Tln., I960. Rohked Joonised ja skeemid peaksid võimaldama määrajat ka sutada ka kõigil loodusehuvilistel ning olema abiks kooli- -3- de bioloogiaõpetajatele ekskursioonidel looduse tundmaõppi miseks. • Based on Comparative Morphological Data AF Emel'yanov Transactions of T
The phylogeny of the Cicadina (Homoptera, Cicadina) based on comparative morphological data A.F. Emel’yanov Transactions of the All-Union Entomological Society Morphological principles of insect phylogeny The phylogenetic relationships of the principal groups of cicadine* insects have been considered on more than one occasion, commencing with Osborn (1895). Some phylogenetic schemes have been based only on data relating to contemporary cicadines, i.e. predominantly on comparative morphological data (Kirkaldy, 1910; Pruthi, 1925; Spooner, 1939; Kramer, 1950; Evans, 1963; Qadri, 1967; Hamilton, 1981; Savinov, 1984a), while others have been constructed with consideration given to paleontological material (Handlirsch, 1908; Tillyard, 1919; Shcherbakov, 1984). As the most primitive group of the cicadines have been considered either the Fulgoroidea (Kirkaldy, 1910; Evans, 1963), mainly because they possess a small clypeus, or the cicadas (Osborn, 1895; Savinov, 1984), mainly because they do not jump. In some schemes even the monophyletism of the cicadines has been denied (Handlirsch, 1908; Pruthi, 1925; Spooner, 1939; Hamilton, 1981), or more precisely in these schemes the Sternorrhyncha were entirely or partially depicted between the Fulgoroidea and the other cicadines. In such schemes in which the Fulgoroidea were accepted as an independent group, among the remaining cicadines the cicadas were depicted as branching out first (Kirkaldy, 1910; Hamilton, 1981; Savinov, 1984a), while the Cercopoidea and Cicadelloidea separated out last, and in the most widely acknowledged systematic scheme of Evans (1946b**) the last two superfamilies, as the Cicadellomorpha, were contrasted to the Cicadomorpha and the Fulgoromorpha. At the present time, however, the view affirming the equivalence of the four contemporary superfamilies and the absence of a closer relationship between the Cercopoidea and Cicadelloidea (Evans, 1963; Emel’yanov, 1977) is gaining ground.

Technology Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola Adamawa State Abstract: Groundnut sucking bug, Rhyparochromus litotoralis (Dist.), is one of the most important post- harvest field insect pests of groundnut in Northern Nigeria. The biology of R. littoralis was studied under laboratory conditions at temperature range of 30 – 330C on freshly harvested groundnut with its leaves and haulms while making notable observations as well on the groundnut fields. This study was conducted in Yola, Adamawa State during 2010 and 2011 seasons to investigate the insect life history and damage caused by R. littoralis on groundnut. Duration of each of the developmental stages of the pest was determined in laboratory. The results indicated that egg incubation period was 4.0 ± 0.15 days, while the respective nymphal duration from the 1st , to the 6th instar were 1.65 ± 0.11,5.3 ± 0.18, 5.25 ± 0.14, 5.0 ± 0.25, 4.35 ± 0.26 and 4.0 ± 0.18 days, respectively. The developmental period from egg to adult stage was 30.1 ± 0.42 days. The lifespan of adult female and male was 18.2 ± 0.38 and 8.80 ± 0.36 days, respectively.

  • Diet of Breeding White-Throated and Black Swifts in Southern California
DIET OF BREEDING WHITE-THROATED AND BLACK SWIFTS IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ALLISON D. RUDALEVIGE, DESSlE L. A. UNDERWOOD, and CHARLES T. COLLINS, Department of BiologicalSciences, California State University,Long Beach, California 90840 (current addressof Rudalevige:Biology Department, Universityof California,Riverside, California 92521) ABSTRACT: We analyzed the diet of nestling White-throated(Aeronautes saxatalis) and Black Swifts (Cypseloidesniger) in southern California. White- throatedSwifts fed their nestlingson bolusesof insectsmore taxonomicallydiverse, on average(over 50 arthropodfamilies represented), than did BlackSwifts (seven arthropodfamilies, primarfiy ants). In some casesWhite-throated Swift boluses containedprimarily one species, while other bolusesshowed more variation. In contrast, all BlackSwift samplescontained high numbersof wingedants with few individualsof other taxa. Our resultsprovide new informationon the White-throated Swift'sdiet and supportprevious studies of the BlackSwift. Swiftsare amongthe mostaerial of birds, spending most of the day on the wing in searchof their arthropodprey. Food itemsinclude a wide array of insectsand some ballooningspiders, all gatheredaloft in the air column (Lack and Owen 1955). The food habitsof a numberof speciesof swifts have been recorded(Collins 1968, Hespenheide1975, Lack and Owen 1955, Marfn 1999, Tarburton 1986, 1993), but there is stilllittle informa- tion availablefor others, even for some speciesthat are widespreadand common. Here we providedata on the prey sizeand compositionof food broughtto nestlingsof the White-throated(Aerona u tes saxa talis) and Black (Cypseloidesniger) Swifts in southernCalifornia. The White-throatedSwift is a commonresident that nestswidely in southernCalifornia, while the Black Swift is a local summerresident, migrating south in late August (Garrettand Dunn 1981, Foersterand Collins 1990). METHODS When feedingyoung, swifts of the subfamiliesApodinae and Chaeturinae return to the nest with a bolusof food in their mouths(Collins 1998).

Received: 10 November 2020; Accepted: 24 November 2020; Published: 26 November 2020 Simple Summary: Cacopsylla picta is an insect vector of apple proliferation phytoplasma, the causative bacterial agent of apple proliferation disease. In this study, we provide an answer to the open question of whether adult Cacopsylla picta feed from other plants than their known host, the apple plant. We collected Cacopsylla picta specimens from apple trees and analyzed the composition of plant DNA ingested by these insects.

MATERIAL AND METHODS (‘Candidatus Phytoplasma asteris’) in grapevine in the Western Cape in South Africa prompted surveying and monitoring of Insect sampling leafhopper and planthopper (Hemiptera: Auchenorrhyncha) Leafhoppers and planthoppers were sampled in Vredendal species in order to determine species diversity, the abundance of (30°40′S, 18°30′E) and in Waboomsrivier (33°40′S, 19°15′E) the leafhopper vector Mgenia fuscovaria and to identify further in the Western Cape province of South Africa where AY has potential vectors. Surveys were carried out in vineyards since been recorded. Insects in grapevines, weeds and cover crops in 2008 using vacuum sampling, sweep netting and visual plant commercial vineyards were sampled during different times of inspection. Weekly insect monitoring with yellow sticky traps the year with vacuum sampling (DVac), sweep netting and hand commenced in 2009. Over a period of 10 years, 27 leafhopper searches since 2008. Insects were preserved in 95% ethanol. In (Cicadellidae) species, four planthopper (Delphacidae) species, addition, insects have been monitored weekly in a commercial one species of Cixiidae, and six species of other Auchenorrhyncha vineyard infected with AY with yellow sticky traps in were identified.
