The Parque Zoobotânico Orquidário Municipal, located in Santos's municipality, a central region of the coast of São Paulo, has approximately 25,000 m² and is inserted in a residential neighborhood, between the beach and the region of the town's hills. Its vegetation area corresponds to 13,000 m², with more than 1,000 specimens of large trees and shrubs. This study's objective was to discriminate how many wild fauna species use the park area for residence, rest, food, and protection. Bibliographic research was carried out to survey the park's biodiversity, in addition to the data collected by the local technicians themselves. In the last ten years, 81 species, including mollusks, butterflies, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals, have been reported. Avifauna was the best-studied group to date, with 56 species sighted and identified. Although the park's afforestation did not occur in a planned way throughout its history, the recent concern to always maintain the proportion of area with vegetation, plant new native trees and conserve existing trees, possibly contributes to the attraction of local species. New studies covering other groups will expand this list, showing that small urban parks, combined with adequate planning, can effectively contribute to the conservation of wild species. Keywords: biodiversity, urban environment, parks, avifauna. J. Anim. Environ. Res., Curitiba, v. 3, n. 3, p. 2322-2331, jul./set. Braz. J. Anim. Environ.
