Canisius (8-5) at Maac Championship • May 2 & 4 Canisius Men’s LaCROSSE CANISIUS (8-5) AT MAAC CHAMPIONSHIP • MAY 2 & 4 SECOND-SEEDED GRIFFS TO COMPETE AT MAAC CHAMPIONSHIP 2008 SCHEDULE The Golden Griffins will compete for the MAAC Championship and the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament this weekend. The Griffs won a share of the MAAC February regular-season title and earned the Championship’s second seed. Canisius opens the 23 at No. 5 Princeton L, 6-13 tournament against third-seeded Manhattan. March MAAC CHAMPIONSHIP BREAKDOWN 2 COLGATE L, 11-12 (OT) 4 The second-seeded Griffs open the Championship against No. 3 Manhattan. Canisius 12 at No. 9 Cornell L, 3-14 doubled up the Jaspers, 10-5, earlier in the season. Senior Tom Hensel (1g, 3a) plus 15 at Mount St. Mary’s * W, 11-7 freshmen Adam Jones (3g, 1a) and Nick LoCoco (1g, 3a) each tallied four points to lead 22 MANHATTAN * W, 10-5 the Canisius offense. Behind an abundant amount of skill and talent, Team Canada displayed grit and passion as they perfectly executed bench-boss Coach Randy Mearns' game plan to a "T" winning 8-5 to take their third gold medal in the World Championship, dating back to their 1978 upset in England. Canada's last gold came in 2006 when the Canadians overtook the title from the U.S. in London, Ont. Canada opened their world championship journey against the United States on the opening day of the ten day tourna- ment with their only defeat in the tournament on their run through to the championship match.
