Perfect if you’re looking for an impressive Christmas show. Two angels comically narrate as we go back in time to the first nativity, with God holding auditions for the key parts. Everyone does well apart from Herod who reckons he should be the King of Kings! There’s plenty of fun as well as some poignant moments as the story unfolds and, after several hiccups, everything concludes in a beautiful tableau. There are six epic songs, including one for Herod (‘A Cooler Ruler’); and a cast of 20-30 (or more). Permission is given to adapt the show to suit your cast, and if you have talented dancers, jugglers etc, they too can feature, as could a panel of judges. However, the show can also easily be staged more simply and with a smaller cast. It could also be performed with great style by teenagers.

This is a charming nativity musical, and perfect for the ‘ahh’ factor at Christmas! Sheik, Rattle and Roll are the three wise men, and the stars, in this popular adaptation of the traditional nativity story. The dialogue and narration are simple, although permission is given to increase them to suit your cast’s abilities. Nativity Nightmares! , a play within a play, makes an entertaining Christmas show. It’s set in a school, where harassed teachers are trying to pull together the end of term Nativity (sound familiar?). Teachers are played by older children, and their pupils by the younger cast. Your own teachers can be imitated, or not, and even the caretaker has a part. Disasters strike, but everything’s ‘alright on the night’. There are speaking parts for at least 30, and extra acting parts, although these can all be cut down or combined. There are nine great songs, which include plenty of two-part singing, a hauntingly beautiful lullaby, some rock and roll, King Herod’s blues, and a show-stopping finale.
