ROLE PROFILE

TITLE: Learning and Outreach Officer

CONTRACT: Fixed term 6 months; flexible part-time; 14-21 hrs/ week

SALARY: Pro rata to £26k to £28k FTE (35hrs/week)

REPORTING TO: Society Manager and relevant steering committee

JOB PURPOSE:

To develop and deliver a new programme of educational, learning and outreach activities in order to promote the charitable objects of the (“the Society”) in conjunction with the Society Manager and Curator.

Principal responsibilities:

• Develop for agreement with steering committee a strategy for accelerating the Society’s educational and outreach activities in order to attract new audiences to the work of the Society, both physically and virtually.

• Lead the planning and delivery with freelancers and volunteers of learning and outreach activity programmes including digital and local community outreach.

• Creation and delivery of online public education and engagement videos and workshops.

• Development of curriculum-based programming and materials for virtual outreach to schools.

• Contribute to the updating of the Society’s digital presence including the Society’s main website and online collections catalogues plus the Arts & Crafts website.

• Work with volunteers to deliver publicity and social media output in connection with local Arts & Crafts social history.

• Seek external funding opportunities for the activity programme

• Develop and maintain relationships within the heritage sector to stay informed of key issues in the areas of learning, participation and digital delivery applicable to the Society

• Carry out and ensure continuous evaluation of learning and outreach programmes

• Keep records and statistics on school and outreach visits to support reporting to management, trustees, funders, etc.

• Contribute to reports for funders, managers, trustees, etc.

• Undertake advocacy activity to promote the Society’s work in education and outreach including writing for publications and speaking at workshops and conferences

Additional responsibilities in conjunction with the Society Manager:

• Recruit, induct and manage volunteers to agreed standards in line with Society policies.

• Contribute to an integrated learning, interpretation, publishing and audience development programme.

• Assist with the Society’s public opening and audience development events to engage with local communities

• Develop and nurture relationships with national, regional and local cultural, educational and Morris-related organisations

• Identify new opportunities for income-generation from the Society’s assets

• Provide input to major grant funding applications from time to time

• Help with monitoring the Health, Safety and Welfare of staff, volunteers and visitors to the Society’s premises

Usual place and terms of work

Kelmscott House, 26 Upper Mall, Hammersmith, London, W6 9TA

- Part-time flexible working including supervision of up to two Saturday afternoon public openings per month [all to be agreed with the Society Manager]

- Annual leave pro-rata to FTE 20 days/year plus public holidays

Principal accountabilities/Working with Trustees

The post holder is accountable to the Society’s Trustees through the Society Manager. The post holder will liaise with staff and volunteers through project and programme committees and will report to the Society’s Trustees from time to time on learning and outreach activities.

Maintain appropriate level of DBS compliance.
