♫ Focus on practicing and refining mm. 65-end ♫ Practice some with a METRONOME ♫ LISTEN to the whole piece while following your part, then while following the score. ♫ Enjoy the music! Note changes, meter changes, key changes, and accidentals. Neatly write in counts (counting) where it would be helpful. ♫ Listen, listen, listen to get the “feel” of each section and of the piece. This will greatly help you to successfully navigate the transitions. Listen not just for your part, but also to what is happening around your part. Which section has the melody when you have harmony or vice-a- versa? What section has a melody before it is passed to your part? To what section does the melody go after your section plays it? Where does your section have a “duet” with another section? Are there places in the music where a distinct shift in tonality occurs? What is your section’s role in making sure that the shift in tonality is clear, musical, and effective? ♫ Practice clapping or tapping your part slowly if needed. ♫ Look for patterns in the music ♫ SUBDIVIDE

"Symphony No. 2 (Mvt. IV)" Alexander Borodin (1834-1887); arr. Deborah Baker Monday (b. 1953) Duration: [4:10] shortened arrangement for string orchestra FULL SCORE (partial): http://www.kendormusic.com/reference_scores/1/10156_score.pdf AUDIO: http://www.kendormusic.com/mp3/1/10156.mp3 SCORE SYNC: https://youtu.be/tuXu0V3enY0

♫ Listen while following your part ♫ Look at the full score. To the best of your ability look for similarities and differences in parts. ♫ Focus on mm. 1-68 this week ♫ Follow the arranger’s bowings in the piece. Remember a practice technique is to practice sections with separate bows for notes/rhythms/intonation/fingering… and then to add back in the bowing. You may also practice bowings on open strings for some good bowing practice. ♫ Here are some fingerings. There may be more. Be sure you have what was given verbally today. Some of that is also here.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  Practice slowly for accuracy  Then work also for speed on the faster sections.  Work to portray the character of the music in your playing (in the sound and physically) and in your facial affect. This is dance music! (based on Slavic dances)  Practice efficiently. Note trouble spots and plan your time throughout the week to cover them. Plan time for continuity practice, as well.
