Collection, 1798-1967 7 feet This collection reflects the work of both Lucile Mouton Griffin and her husband, Harry L. Griffin, and Mrs. Griffin's interest in Mouton family history. The personal portion contains scrapbooks kept by Mrs. Griffin before her marriage including her years as a student at SLII and material from her graduate school work at the University of Chicago and Columbia University. A second section of this portion contains photographs of Lafayette, many used to illustrate Griffin's Attakapas Country , with explanatory notes prepared by Mrs. Griffin. There is also an extensive post card collection. The second major part of the collection deals with the Mouton family, especially with Alexander Mouton (1853-1938), Mrs. Griffin's father. He was an engineer who worked in Latin America, especially Mexico, and owned a sugar refinery for a time. His collection includes an autobiography, correspondence, and large clipping and post card scrapbooks. This collection contains material on other members of the Mouton family dating back to Jean Mouton in 1798. Among these items are artifacts owned by Gov. Alexander Mouton (1804-1885), Mrs. Griffin's great-grandfather. Donated by Lucile M. Griffin, Lafayette, Louisiana. SERIES A. Lucille Mouton Griffin Material 1. Scrapbooks Box 1 and Box 2 2.
