R.W. Kidder Middle School 6700 Rives Junction Rd. Jackson, MI. 49201 Locator Map on Back Page GENERAL INFORMATION Purpose of the University of Scouting Program – The “University of Scouting” is a supplemental training opportunity for all adult Scouters. It is the only time during the year where you can find, all in one place, the widest variety of training opportunities in all program areas (Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, , Commissioners, District and Council Scouters). Whether you are new to the program or a veteran, you will find topics of interest. However, Basic Leader Specific Training is not part of the U of S format. This all-day Saturday event is presented as a series of class sessions much like a typical school day. Adults can register to attend the courses that are of interest to them. Two all-day courses for youth will be presented. The College of Cub Scouting provides a wide variety of courses from pack administration to planning for an outdoor program. The College of Boy Scouting provides an exciting variety of troop, patrol and outdoor planning supplemental courses to help manage the challenges of a great troop experience. The College of Venturing has courses for those who are into Scouting’s “senior” youth program and are looking for the challenges of an active high adventure experience. The College of General Studies offers courses of interest to Scouters at all levels of Scouting. Commissioners are encouraged to take advantage of courses in all the Colleges as well spend time with their units. $20.00 Registration Fee ($15.00 for pre-registration by December 31st, 2018) – This per person registration fee includes attendance at up to six University of Scouting courses, a patch, certificate of attendance and administrative costs. Pre-Registration (SAVE $5.00) –To ensure the best possibility of attending your desired courses, early registration is essential. All registrations received on or before December 1st, 2018 will be included in the master schedule of courses, and you will receive a personal schedule for the University of Scouting. Late Registration/Walk-ins – Registrations received after February 17th deadline and those registering at the door (walk-ins) will receive course assignments based on availability of space and instructors. They will be assigned on a first come, first served basis and will be charged the full $30.00 registration fee. Due to time constraints, walk-ins may be unable to complete registration in time to attend a course scheduled for the first period. Opening and Closing Ceremony – There will be a short opening ceremony for all participants. Also plan to attend the closing ceremony at day’s end. These informational and meaningful sessions will be sure to give a boost to your already uncontainable enthusiasm, as well as provide opportunities for U of S to give away door prizes. Camp Promotions & Vendors –. To provide as many resources as possible in one location, Camp Promotions as well as a number of local Scouting-related vendors will be in the exhibit hall throughout the day at U of S again this year. Make sure you leave time in your schedule to stop in and check them out. Lunch – Lunch will be available on-site for purchase, or you can bring your own. Uniforms – Class A Uniforms will be the Uniform of the Day.
