ARMSTRONG WING Through note-for-note transcriptions of historic moments in piano jazz by such giants as Oscar Peterson, Bill Evans, and Herbie Hancock to name just a few, the Fred Moyer Jazz Trio is keeping alive music that otherwise would live on only in recordings. Pianist Fred Moyer, bassist Peter Tillotson, and drummer Bob Savine create a score by painstakingly transcribing every note of a favorite jazz performance, and then approach the score just as they would a chamber music work of Beethoven and Mozart, not changing the notes and staying true to the style, but interpreting the music in their own way.
