Big Brothers Big Sisters PEI provides mentors to Island children in both the community and elementary school settings. Serving as role models, our mentors teach by example the importance of giving and giving back, of staying in school, and of having respect for family, peers and community. Services Offered: The Cadet Program is the largest federally-sponsored youth program in Canada that includes the Royal Canadian Sea, Army and Air Cadets. It is a national program for young Canadians aged 12 to 18 who are interested in participating in a variety of fun, challenging and rewarding activities while learning about the sea, army and air activities of the Canadian Forces.

At Slemon Park, Cadets choose to join either the Sea, Army, or Air Cadet Program. Sea Cadets learn seamanship skills and how to sail. Air Cadets learn the principles of aviation, with some learning to become glider pilots, pilots of engine-propelled aircraft or both.

Needle Exchange Program: Clients are offered clean needles, clean sterile water, alcohol swabs, tourniques, and condoms free of charge. Literature on Hepatitis C, safe injection techniques, wound care, and safe sex is available.

Clients are also offered immunizations to protect against Hepatitis A and B, pneumococcal, and seasonal influenza free of charge. Service referrals and verbal education are also provided.

Smoking Cessation Program The Smoking Cessation Program (Quit Care Program) is designed to help nicotine- dependent smokers stop their use of tobacco. As part of the program, addiction nurses work with participants during five sessions to help people understand what triggers their smoking and how to develop a personal plan to deal with these situations.

Clients learn more about their dependence through self-observation and develop new skills which can significantly improve their chances of quitting, often with the aid of medications such as the nicotine patch, gum, and Zyban.

Individual and group counselling programs are available across the province at Addiction Service locations and are offered at no charge.
