Aawas Yojna, Kutchi Jain Foundation (KJF), Mumbai,

Heavy rainfall during July 2005 provided a clear picture of the plight of residences of Kutchi Oswal Jains. As a result of seeing actual residences of some of the Kutchi Oswal Jains, Kutch Jain Foundation was born and an office was established in Sion (East), Mumbai. KJF is a nonprofit organization providing low cost residences to

Anil Shah (2nd from Right) with a Family in MRCC Park, Nalla Sopara, Mumbai an Apartment at MRCC Park, Nalla Sopara

Residences projects are taking place in Mumbai Area at Vasa (Anchor Nagar), Dombivali - East (Navneet Nagar), Dombivali - West (Larkins Nagar and Ambivali (Neptunre Nagar). Over 4000 applications have been received by the organization. An organization has been able to provide 1500+ residences to the needy families.

KJF provides residences places to a needy family based on the need and financial status of the family. The family has to invest only Rs. 300,000 to receive a Rs. 10 – 15 Lakh worth property for their residence.

The above photo shown of MRCC Park at Nalla Sopara, Mumbai was made possible with the generous donation of large amount from Anil & Hina Shah, Concord, MA. MRCC Park has been in existence for the past 5 years and the residents are thankful to Anil & Hina Shah & Family and KJF organization for lifting them from the slum area residences.

Read the following testimonial from Anil Shah, Concord, MA: “In my case, KJF members (Chandrkantbhai Gogri, Deepakbhai Bheda, Hasmukhbhai Gogri and Nemidasbhai Gala), who took me to Nallasopara for a visit to see the conditions our Kutchi brothers were living in. There, I met Ashwinbhai’s family, I saw twinkle in 8 year old daughter’s eyes (same age as Janak, my son at the time). I could not control the tears, it made me cry and at that moment I decided something has to happen. I called my mother and wife back in US and asked and they said why to think if you feel so strongly. Thank god those KJF members who inspired me back then and we took action immediately by transferring funds within a month. Now, I am very active in KJF and I hope, we can have a KOJAIN Nagar donated to our brothers and sisters back home and ensure no Kutchi is living in shanty., Members, who like to visit KJF Housing Projects, please let me know and I will provide all the logistics and KJF representation while you visit. I can tell you with full confidence that every dollar donated is used very carefully, No amount is small. Any Amount of Donation is Welcome. Please help, we are half way there to provide all Kutchis with good housing”………..Anil Shah, Concord, MA

In Mumbai, 85% eyes, 95% skin donated by Gujarati’s, Jain’s (Kutchi’s Lead) Among Gujaratis, those from Kutch are the leading organ donors. The daily community bulletin Kutchi Khabar Patrika, (website: http://www.asanjokutch.com/patrikav2/index.aspx), which reaches out to 40,000+ families, appreciates the donor families, besides informing and encouraging others to do the same.

A humble landline and some handy information are all 59-year-old Kusum Vira uses to mobilize hundreds of cornea donations from her Lower Parel residence. Kusum's son Vikas, secretary of NGO Tarun Mitra Mandal, (Website: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/NGO-Tarun-Mitra-Mandal) collects the highest number of eyeballs in the city. Collecting over 500 eyeballs a year for the city sounds like a herculean task, and Kusum credits her community for helping her achieve this feat. A "Religion-backed ideology that perceives donation as an ultimate form of charity” makes them to donate eyes, skin and other organ donations.

Why Everyone Needs an Elevator Pitch

Due to a lack of preparation for a sudden interaction with an executive one cannot interact correctly with an executive unless one is a master of impromptu speech. It is highly unlikely that one can whip up a great conversation with a senior executive at a moment’s notice. However, that one conversation can make you stand out from the masses. So how can you prepare for this interaction?

Entrepreneurs are told that they need an elevator pitch – a 30- to 60-second elucidation of their idea so that a potential investor is hooked and interested in hearing more. Similarly you need an elevator pitch for your executive interaction. A successful elevator pitch has three components:

1. A quick overview of the most important project you are working on from the company’s standpoint. There may be an interest in the details of your training for an upcoming marathon, but much more interest will be in how you are developing a whole new customer segment for an upcoming product launch.

2. What is the progress on that project? Be objective and realistic when you describe the progress. Don’t leave executive with the impression that everything is great when it’s not. Also, don’t take this opportunity to rant against other team members or departments.

3. Has anybody been particularly helpful in enabling the project’s success? Be generous with your praise. It helps spread good karma and your acknowledgements will eventually reach your colleagues who will want to make you even more successful.

Take 15 minutes to work on your elevator pitch today. Be authentic. Be brief. And above all: Be Ready.

Shri Kutchi Dasha Oswal Gnati Mahajan History Making Individuals: Gnati Mukutmani Sheth Shri Keshavji Nayak, a jeweled-Crown of the Community Amongst Kachchhi Dasha oswal Community names of Sheth Shree Keshavji Nayak & Sheth Shree Narshi Natha, are written with a golden ink in the history. Sheth Narsi Natha helped community to settle in business whereas Sheth Shree Nayak Jethabhai, Grandson of Sheth Shree Keshavji Nayak provided low cost housing to the community. Sheth Keshavji Nayak is as revered as ancestor Narsi

Natha, who came to Mumbai from Kutch and made progress 0f himself and also elevated the community.

Sheth Keshavji, born during 1819 in Lakhania village in the Abdasa District of Kutch, lost father at the age of 5. Under some unfortunate circumstances, mother Hirbai shifted to village Kothara along with the family. Later at the age of 10, Sheth Keshavji came to Mumbai to try his luck. Initially, Sheth Devji Shivji Zaveri, a prominent trader of Bhatia Community provided held his hand in starting a business with him. After the first business of selling dates with Devjibhai, there was no looking back for Sheth Keshavji. He continued to make progress with unusual insight winning confidence of all and taking accurate decisions. He was there at right time at right place and otherwise hard work was the only key then. Sheth Keshavji progressed in the business and established offices in Hong Kong and Africa. Sheth Keshavji established variety of businesses under his son’s name as Narshi Keshavji.

Sheth Keshavji was a visionary man with an enthusiasm. Along with the trade, Sheth Keshavji was prominently well-versed in maintaining social dealings & relations

In those days, Keshavj Sheth was residing in Wadi Bunder area. In the entire city, only he and Sheth Cawasji Jehangir had magnificent four-horse cart. Mumbai’s Governor honored Sheth Keshavji with the order of Justice of peace (J.P.) (The ambassador of peace) with immense pleasure. Keshavji Sheth was presented with the highest title of that time. It was for the very first time that a Kutchi person was conferred with the justice of peace i.e. J.P. title.

In those golden years of Dasha Community, three out of 5 members of Mumbai Municipal Corporation’s Justice Committee were Sheth Keshavji, his son Narshi Keshavji and Sheth Velji Malu.

An important road, also known as New Chinch Bunder Road in Mumbai, is named after Keshavji Sheth. The road has been named after Sheth Keshavji for his contribution in the development of Mumbai. This Road extends from the Fountain of Masjid Bunder to Sardar Vithalbhai Patel Road. A beautiful Fountain, located at the junction of Narsi Natha Street & Keshavji Nayak Road in Masjid Bunder area, was built by Keshavj Sheth at the cost of Rs. 23,000.

Keshavji Sheth generously donated money for various projects. The list of numerous good deeds of Sheth Keshavji for the community & the religion is very long. Keshavji Sheth joined Sheth Velji Malu and Sheth Shivji Nenshi during 1862 to build a Grand Derasar in Kothara Kutch. He

built Anantnath Bhagwan’s Derasar in the Keshavji Nayak Tonk on Shatrunjay Mountain and Dharamshala in Market Area during 1872. Striving enthusiastically throughout life, he earned wealth and credibility spending it for the good-humanitarian deeds. He earned the title of the Jeweled-Ccrown of the Kutchi Dasha Oswal Community.

Keshavji Sheth passed away during 1885 in Palitana. Keshavji Sheth had an impressive personality and physical structure.

Historical perspective of Masjid Bunder (Bhat Bazaar Area) Fountain built by Sheth Keshavji Nayak

Many buildings and architectural structures came into existence in Mumbai during 1820 – 1890, for example: Mahalaxmi Mandir at Haji Ali during 1931, City Town Hall during 1833, Flora Fountain built

16

Kachchhi Oswal Jain Association In North America 2013

at a cost of Rs. 47,000 during 1864, Crawford Market during 1869, Bombay High court and Rajabai Tower built during 1878.

Sheth Keshavji Nayak built Bhat Bazar Fountain during 1876 at a cost of Rs. 22,000. A statue of Parsi Sheth Krarsetji Manekji known as ‘Khada Parsi’ at Byculla was built during 1876 at a cost of Rs. 20,000. Unfortunately, compared to rest of the 150+ years old buildings and structures, Bhat Bazaar Fountain is not in the list of a Heritage building or structure.

Opening of Sheth Keshavji Nayak built Fountain was done in the presence of then Governor of Mumbai on January 8, 1876. Appearance of fountain is like a Temple with a dome and summit. Stone walls of Fountain shows pictures of elephant and peacock carvings. Outside clock still works. Sheth Keshavji Nayak’s statue is in existence and visible. Bhat Bazaar Fountain is a land mark and is used as an identifier in the mailing address. The fountain survived 1944 explosion that occurred in the anchored ship at a nearby Mumbai Port.

At present the fountain is in a shamble shape demanding repair, maintenance and cleaning work. 137 years old structure needs to be saved from the environmental and human attacks, misuse and abuse. .

TOPIC: Guns and Violence is an important issue that is currently being debated in USA. On the one hand being a citizen of this country it is your fundamental right to bear arms. On the other hand being Jain, non-violence is the cornerstone of the religion you may be practicing. Trying to balance the two or trying to resolve the two issues that seem to be at odds with each other is what you will address in your essay. On the one hand you cannot ban all guns and deny citizens their rights. On the other hand the violence due to guns that permeates our society has tragic consequences. How would you address both these issues if you were a leader? Give concrete steps you would like to take.

6. Please provide results of American College Testing (ACT) and or Scholastic Aptitude Testing (SAT).

WHOM TO SEND YOUR APPLICATION?
