Letter from the Director Dr. Amy Knopps

December 18, 2018

Marching Mizzou Alumni:

On behalf of the School of Music and faculty, thank you for your continued support of Marching Mizzou and of our current students and staff. We are all so appreciative for our strong family of alumni and for all that you provide to our membership.

The 2018 season and 133rd edition of Marching Mizzou started with a $400,000 financial commitment from MU Health Care to the College of Arts & Sciences, specifically for Marching Mizzou scholarships. The funding will be allocated at a rate of $100,000 per year, and the pledge will help to provide retention-based scholarships for upperclassmen, with priority given to students majoring in health-care related fields. We simply cannot thank MU Health Care enough for their generosity. Our partnership will be a critical asset to our program, as the scholarships will not only reward our students for their service to MU, but create a financial pathway so more students have the ability to remain in Marching Mizzou throughout the entirety of their degree programs on campus. We look forward to our continued partnership for the next four years and beyond.

In addition to our partnership with MU Health Care this past spring, we continued our longtime partnership with Stanbury Uniforms, Inc., and embarked on creating a new look for Marching Mizzou with their design team. To celebrate our partnership and highlight that a Missouri company served as the sole uniform provider for our flagship university, we filmed a three-part documentary series detailing the process through our debut of the new uniforms at Homecoming this past October. If you have not seen this series and would like to view it, go to our Marching Mizzou page on Facebook.

The former uniforms will be available for purchase starting in January from the University of Missouri Surplus Property. Available items and the price structure are as follows:

Full Uniform (Coat, Pants, Shako, and Plume) - $150 Uniform Coat - $75.00 Color Guard Uniform - $75.00 Shako and Plume - $25.00

Proceeds will go directly to our general fund to meet the growing needs of our students and program.

As many of you may have caught in person in Memorial Stadium (or online), we had the privilege of presenting seven halftime shows this season. Music ranged from Justin Timberlake to Leonard Bernstein, Grease to Superheroes, and Classic Game Show Themes to the music of George M.

Cohan to mark the anniversary of the end of World War I. We hope you enjoyed our performances and, as with the documentary series, you may also view our performances on our Facebook page.

This year we were unfortunately not able to host our Champion of Champions Marching Festival due to the construction in the south end zone, but we look forward to that event returning to our calendar next fall on October 19, 2019.

Aside from our fall home schedule members of Marching Mizzou traveled to two away games, one to the and the other to the . We look forward to officially closing our season at the 60th Annual AutoZone Liberty Bowl in Memphis, Tennessee on Monday, December 31. Thank you to those alumni members who will be assisting us while we are on our trip by covering two basketball games in our absence.

As we look further ahead to the fall of 2019 and the 134th edition of Marching Mizzou please plan to come home for Homecoming on October 12, 2019. We would love for you to march in our Alumni Band by joining us for Pre-Game and traditionals with Marching Mizzou in our stands throughout the game. Please keep an eye out for communication from the Marching Mizzou Alumni Band Board for further information and registration this fall.
