  • James Corden to Take Over 'Late Late Show' for Ferguson
James Corden to Take Over 'Late Late Show' for Ferguson 09.08.2014 After weeks of speculation surrounding Craig Ferguson's possible replacement in his 12:35 a.m. time slot, CBS has officially announced that yes indeed, British comedian James Corden will take his place next year as host of The Late Late Show. Corden is a 36-year-old actor, comedian and TV personality who has appeared in U.K. series Gavin and Stacey and BBC/Hulu's The Wrong Mans, which he also co-created. He also starred in Begin Again, as well as upcoming films One Chance and Into the Woods. Currently he hosts Sky 1's comedy game show A League of Their Own in the U.K. Nina Tassler, chairman of CBS Entertainment, calls Corden "the ultimate multi-hyphenate - a writer, creator and performer who is loved and respected in every medium he touches, including theater, comedy, music, film and television. James is already a big star in the U.K. and he's wowed American audiences on Broadway; we're very excited to introduce his considerable and very unique talents to our network television audience on a daily basis." Tassler told The Hollywood Reporter that the choice was largely based on Corden's broad range in the entertainment business: he has appeared on (and won awards for) TV, film and theater, with a strong social media following thrown in. "In this day and age, certain actors come to your attention and you can't stop following him, and James is one of those talents," said Tassler.

He has succeeded in remaining true to the spirit of independence, with films such as Stranger Than Paradise (1984), Dead Man (1995) and, most recently, Only Lovers Left Alive (2013). With the re-release of Down By Law (1986) as a centrepiece for the season, we will also look at films that have inspired Jarmusch A Century of Chinese Cinema: New Directions will celebrate the sexy, provocative and daring work by acclaimed contemporary filmmakers such as Wong Kar-wai, Jia Zhangke, Wang Xiaoshuai and Tsai Ming-liang. These directors built on the innovations of the New Wave era and sparked a renewed global interest in Chinese cinema into the new millennium André Singer’s powerful new documentary Night Will Fall (2014) reveals for the first time the liberation of the Nazi concentration camps and the efforts made by army and newsreel cameramen to document the almost unbelievable scenes encountered there.

  • Neil Baldwin, Celebrity
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS This book would not have been commissioned if the multi-award-winning BBC TV drama Marvellous, based on Neil’s life, had not been such an outstanding success. To adapt a line from Marvellous: ‘Acknowledgements, I wouldn’t know where to start.’ Or indeed to finish. But I’ll try. We thank the writer and executive director, Peter Bowker, for his brilliantly perceptive and funny script, which truly captured Neil’s spirit, so outstandingly portrayed on screen by Toby Jones, without which there would have been no film. His fellow executive director, Patrick Spence, managing director of Fifty Fathoms, part of the Tiger Aspect group, had the wisdom to see the potential of the film, and sell it to the BBC. He managed the whole process with sensitive professionalism. Patrick was the figurehead and representation of a brilliant directing, production, acting and publicity team, who have gained the professional recognition they so richly deserve, and who had Neil’s best interests at the heart of all their work. It seems invidious to selectively name and praise individuals here. Thank you all, guys, for a job superbly well done. Marvellous itself would not have been conceived and made without the article written about Neil in The Guardian in 2010 by our longstanding friend, Francis Beckett. But Francis’s contribution certainly did not end there. He conducted some of the interviews for the book, edited the whole text and drew upon his extensive experience as an author and journalist to provide invaluable advice on structure and content, and provided an introduction and afterword.
