2019 Annual Report Message from the Ceo 2019 ANNUAL REPORT MESSAGE FROM THE CEO Dear Friends, Colleagues and Partners, Saban Community Clinic has been on the front lines of community care since we opened our doors in 1967. We have weathered the ups and downs within an uncertain and ever-changing health care landscape, and continue to honor our founding principle that healthcare is a right, not a privilege. The Clinic’s goal is to continue expanding to meet the needs of the community we serve. This year we focused our efforts on updating our infrastructure, expanding our community engagement opportunities and continuing to implement cutting-edge technology to increase access to quality care. Some highlights from 2019 include: • A complete renovation of our Beverly Clinic and construction on the Virgil Family Health Center, opening in April • We received the most HRSA Quality Improvement Awards in the Clinic’s history • We expanded our volunteer services to include Homeless Connect Kits and Pediatric Care Kits and assembled more than 5,000 kits • Our OB-GYN program relaunched in June and has welcomed four new infants into our pediatric care family • We successfully piloted a telehealth psychiatry clinic • 240 individuals were successfully routed from the ER at Cedars-Sinai into our care We take pride in the successes highlighted in this report. We are grateful to our dedicated staff, Board Members, community partners, generous donors and the Friends Board for the OUR MISSION role they all play in the continued success of the Clinic. Without your steadfast dedication To serve as a medical home to the most to our mission and patients, none of this would be possible. vulnerable members of our community Thank you for your continued support, by providing affordable quality health care in a caring environment. I know why they are on the streets.” Jaime spent his early childhood in Boston. At 7 years old, Jaime’s mom left his abusive father. They lived in cars and on people’s couches for a couple years until they moved to Watts. “My childhood was taken from me in that environment,” says Jaime. “My mom was always working, and my sisters and I raised ourselves. It was the height of the gang epidemic in that area, and I couldn’t escape it.” After years of gang involvement, and a decade of going in and out of jail, Jaime turned his life around. He dedicated Welcoming Spaces himself to giving back to his community. Today, Jaime wears many hats. We need to be realistic, these big changes take time.” Shower to Care The biggest point of entry into the Clinic for people experiencing homelessness is the shower program. Jaime and the case managers work to establish relationships in order to link patients to care. “Mental health issues are prevalent amongst this population,” says Jaime. “The linkages to the medical side of the Clinic are integral to their success.” The Clinic’s “warm handoffs” and “one-stop shop” model allow for patients to receive all of their care in one place. 1 Contentious Comedy: Negotiating Issues of Form, Content, and Representation in American Sitcoms of the Post-Network Era Thesis by Lisa E. Williamson Submitted for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy The University of Glasgow Department of Theatre, Film and Television Studies 2008 (Submitted May 2008) © Lisa E. Williamson 2008 2 Abstract Contentious Comedy: Negotiating Issues of Form, Content, and Representation in American Sitcoms of the Post-Network Era This thesis explores the way in which the institutional changes that have occurred within the post-network era of American television have impacted on the situation comedy in terms of form, content, and representation. This thesis argues that as one of television’s most durable genres, the sitcom must be understood as a dynamic form that develops over time in response to changing social, cultural, and institutional circumstances. By providing detailed case studies of the sitcom output of competing broadcast, pay-cable, and niche networks, this research provides an examination of the form that takes into account both the historical context in which it is situated as well as the processes and practices that are unique to television. In addition to drawing on existing academic theory, the primary sources utilised within this thesis include journalistic articles, interviews, and critical reviews, as well as supplementary materials such as DVD commentaries and programme websites. This is presented in conjunction with a comprehensive analysis of the textual features of a number of individual programmes. By providing an examination of the various production and scheduling strategies that have been implemented within the post-network era, this research considers how differentiation has become key within the multichannel marketplace.
