But only one Tman could be named the new Chieftain of our Tribe, and that man was Ken Paden, Chieftain Least Red Clock. He was the Senior Medicine Man preceding his elevation and is waiting for another great year at Camp Geiger. But in between now and then, we had the chance to sit down with the newest Chieftain in our Tribe and ask him some questions about himself and his tribal career.

I was the only person to tell the story for eight or nine years. What are some items/traditions that you would like to change/bring back? To be quite honest, during the last 50 years I have seen a number of “traditions” come and go. 20 AND THE TAPPER TONIGHT IS …

e all started there in Tapper Valley, staring into the glowing fire with eyes wide and senses heightened. WThe Medicine Men patrolled in front of us as we stood in our uniforms wondering if tonight was indeed the night that we were to be selected. The Directing Medicine Man stepped forward, sounded the call, and we all turned to see the mighty Warrior poised at the top of the hill. The Tapper stood with a tomahawk in one hand and a mighty torch in the other. Letting out a mighty battle cry, he descended into the valley to select the next generation of the mighty Mic-O-Say. For the 11 year olds around the fire, this man was a fabled hero their parents heard about upon their return home. To all of us within the Tribe though, we know these men to be true leaders.

2014 Recap by John Carr - KSB Little Sky Signal 21 someone to remember. Jordan Miller’s memories are pretty sparse other than two moments. “There is the shock in that moment when they call your name, and the adrenaline rush right before running down the hill."

"I remember when they called my name my hands went kind of numb,” said former Head Runner and current KSB Nathaniel Curry, “and Sean Killin was trying to walk me back to my room and he was kind of mad, he doesn’t like to walk fast, he kept telling me to slow down."

For many it was a night of celebration with the ones they love the most, espe- cially for brothers. While all of us share in honoring these men Friday night, in this article I would like to share with you some of their memories of that summer night that they ran down Cardiac Hill.

For most of these guys the night was a giant blur with a few flash-bulb moments here and there. Most of the time they were the last thing you would expect Third Session - Andy Clark

Another family of devoted Scouters, the Derrs, had the joy of celebrating Cutler Derr tapping 6th session, as well as adding to the tradition of Brother Tappers with his brother Garrett Derr. No matter what, the brotherhood of Scouting is always celebrat- ed.

Fourth Session - Dylan Klawuhn “It means a lot to me to be a part of this group,” said Connor McBratney. “It's really the pinnacle of my Scouting career thus far.”

As Andy Clark said, “It’s a huge honor, and it was a blast, but it was just as much fun to watch all my friends go down the hill."

The one thing I took away from talking with these men was how humbling an experience this was. “These guys are out there for the kids, that’s their purpose,” says Klawuhn. “They aren’t out there for glory—yeah, being a Runner or a Keeper is fun, but the kids come first, and that’s the way it should be.” And that is why these men are out here. They are hard workers and leaders, and we thank them for their efforts.
