O principal objetivo deste trabalho traduz-se na construção de uma leitura sistematizada do projeto e implementação de microcarros europeus ao longo do século XX, tendo em vista não só o esclarecimento/definição do próprio conceito, mas também a perceção do seu papel atual e futuro a nível da mobilidade urbana sustentável. Neste sentido, percorrem-se dimensões como o design específico dos veículos, antecessores, autores e empresas envolvidas, assim como o contexto socioeconómico inerente. Como metodologia, realizou-se uma pesquisa exaustiva em fontes bibliográficas e fontes on-line, para além de contactos diretos com colecionadores e especialistas na temática, através de fóruns de debate e participação em encontros e mostras nacionais. Os microcarros consistem em veículos motorizados, que surgiram na Europa após a Segunda Guerra Mundial, num contexto de escassez de recursos económicos, energéticos e de materiais de produção. -

The Britain Economy and Marginal Motoring 1915 to 2015 Introduction The wealthy portion of the population of Great Britain were no strangers to personal transport, having access to the horse and carriage. With the advent of the motoring era they were quick to convert to this new and expensive form of personal transport, the car. By 1914 the cars purchased by the wealthy Britons were heavy motorcar, some times very heavy. Other less wealthy people who wanted or needed a car for personal transport for business or pleasure turned to the makers of the less expensive but still very expensive light car. This article is about how with some distractions along the way, the ultra light car became more affordable to the general population of Great Britain. Cycle Car era Between the beginning of the twentieth century and the first World War, the first light cars were produced and a need for low cost motor transport was recognised. After 1912 all cars with engines less than 1100cc, were classed as cycle-cars for sporting purposes in Europe. The term Cycle-car was in general usage in Britain to describe all cars with engines with less than four cylinders. The cars with four cylinder engines being classed as light cars. Thing were not that clear cut, there were the true or primitive Cycle-car’s, all chains and belts, the economy light cars with twin cylinder engines, with four cylinder engines, and some makes of economy light car with either twin or four cylinder engines, all under 1100 c.c. The true or primitive cycle-cars made by utilising motor cycle type component, they were produced as a low cost alternative to the light cars of the time and for a period either side of the first World War had a significant impact on the motoring scene but by the middle of the nineteen twenties had virtually disappeared. -

SU FUEL PUMPS +44(0) 1885 488 488 SU Fuel Pumps have always had an arrangement of contact breaker points to switch the current and initiate the pumping action. This is the clicking noise you can hear which tells you that your pump is working. The SU system of points is very reliable and long lasting, but eventually problems can occur with burnt or dirty points. We are still able to supply new pumps to the original ‘pointed’ design which are not polarity conscious, but in addition are also able to supply SU pumps without points. These ‘pointless’ pumps are actuated by means of an electronic switch and a solid state timing control device which overcomes the problems with points and ensures that your pump will work every time, even after a long winter lay-up. The electronic system is patented and the ‘pointless’ pumps are externally identical to their ‘pointed’ counterparts and LIGHTING the characteristic ticking has been retained, so you still know yours is working! In addition we offer DIY Conversion its complete with electronic circuit board and fttings to enable existing pumps to be modifed to electronic actuation SWITCHES if required. The ‘pointless’ pumps are polarity conscious, which means that you have to order appropriate to your car. National rallies are a bit different, these are put on 7 Younger Members Initiative by clubs for their own members to enjoy and are usually sponsored by the club itself (as ours is) and are restricted to members and associated 8/9 Forum Files clubs. Being part of the Morris Vehicles Association (MVA) enables us 10-17 Exactly Eighty to meet other like minded Morris owners from other clubs who support us and in turn we can support them at their rally. Later this month the 18/19 Pictures from the Past MMOC National Rally takes place again at Kelmarsh Hall, near Kettering 20-22 Minor Musings on 21-23rd June. I hope to see a good attendance from our members 23-25 Eight Diff Rebuild (Pt 4) for this excellent and well organised rally. -

As with many things I have, the picture was put somewhere safe – it was an 8” x 5” photograph, and so could not be fitted into any of my standard photo albums, and I did not want to damage it. It did eventually turn up, and I sent it in a tube to John our cover man who, as I am sure you will agree, has put it to good use. CHAIRMAN’S CHAT. Coastal 39s 5d As I sit here writing this, I reflect on this current year of isolation for many and restrictions for others. Its been a year of being able to get those necessary jobs done on the classics for Classics many with the lack of shows. Let’s hope we can see an end to this and hopefully next year be able to get out and about again. Somehow, we will soon have a committee meeting, social distanced of course, to decide on events for next year and to whether the AGM, scheduled for February can go ahead or do we postpone it for a few months. The later looks likely but we shall try to keep you informed of any necessary developments. The same will Covid Car Show apply to our Annual Dinner which was due to take place in January. Should you be wondering why you have not received a reminder about your Membership well its been decided that this will be suspended for this year and hopefully will start again in 2021. For those that have paid this year a free year next year will be given too you. As you can imagine the lack of our two shows has hit us fairly hard so we shall have to postpone our usual donations to charities this year with reluctance I must admit. What more can I say other than keep safe and let’s hope this dreadful virus comes to an end soon so we can get out and about again and back to normality? Your Chairman.
