Happy Valley Communications Fact Sheet Mission Statement Happy Valley Communications is a student-run public relations firm that exists to offer professional public relations services to the community of Penn State and national campaigns. Established in 2009, HVC seeks to benefit students, faculty, and the community as we strengthen the relationships between the firm’s clients and the general public.

Happy Valley Communications is a Penn State student organization that works to increase the experience of participating students. These students are expected to act in a professional manner and maintain professional standards when working with clients in order to a model business environment.

History HVC was founded in 2009 by Penn State students Jessi Janiec, Laura Peck, and Lottie Rummel as an organization that provided students with the opportunity to expand on the lessons they were learning in the classroom. HVC was structured to provide a mutually beneficial relationship for both the community and the students involved within the organization.

Account Executives Serve as the liaison between account teams and client representatives as they work to oversee individual client campaigns.

Happy Valley Communications Directors Biographies

Executive Director | Caitlyn Gossert Caitlyn Gossert is a senior dual majoring in public relations and art history. She is the Executive Director of Happy Valley Communications and is responsible for maintaining client relationships and recruiting new clients for the firm, as well as overseeing all internal and external communications, business affairs and staff relations. In addition to Happy Valley Communications, Cait serves as the Public Relations Director for the Penn State Lawrence G. Foster Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America and has volunteered for the past four years for the Penn State IFC Panhellenic Dance MaraTHON (THON). She has held internships with three organizations as an undergraduate, including The State Theatre in State College, , Tierney Communications in Harrisburg and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and most recently at The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota, Florida. Director of Communications | Kristin DeRosa Kristin DeRosa is a senior majoring in public relations with a minor in psychology. Kristin is the Director of Communications at Penn State's student-run PR firm, Happy Valley Communications (HVC). Through HVC she worked as an Account Executive and led a campaign which raised $70,000 for the local chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. She currently serves as the President of the Lawrence G. Foster Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America at Penn State where she oversees the professional development of communications students. She previously held internships with the Penn State Smeal College of Business' Alumni Relations department and Chamberlain Healthcare Public Relations in New York City. Upon graduation in May, she hopes to work for a global PR firm. Director of Business Affairs | Allison Lilly Allison Lilly is a senior majoring in public relations with minors in environmental inquiry and psychology. She is the Director of Business Affairs for Happy Valley Communications and holds the position of National Liaison for the Lawrence G. Foster Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America. A native of Altoona, Pennsylvania, Allison graduated from Altoona Area High School in 2008 and is a third-generation Penn Stater. She wanted to work in the media and communications industry after interning at a television station during her senior year of high school. From there, she decided to expand her knowledge of the field of public relations and has since held internships at the Eberly College of Science, Dick Jones Communications and the Campus Sustainability Office in State

College, Pa. and CooperKatz & Co. in New York City. Building on her sister's example and encouragement to live sustainably, Allison decided to join the outreach team for the EcoCAR Challenge as a sophomore. Last year, Allison accepted a graduate student fellowship through the U.S. Department of Energy as a junior and was the youngest Outreach Coordinator competing in Year Three of EcoCAR. She placed fourth overall and won the Spirit of Outreach Award and Best Outreach Progress Reports. Allison planned 55 outreach events with community, youth, and local, state and national government. She also secured media in international outlets and designed an EcoCAR iPhone App. Allison has accepted another fellowship for Year One of the EcoCAR 2 Competition. Director of Staff Relations | Dana Leonhard Dana Leonhard is a senior dual majoring in public relations and labor studies and employment relations with a dual minor in business and communication arts and sciences. She is currently the Director of Staff Relations for Happy Valley Communications (HVC) and is an active member of her sorority. Previously, she has served as an Account Associate working on two national campaigns for HVC, Public Relations Chairperson for Pollock Halls Residence Association, and Public Relations and Rules and Regulations Committee member for Penn State’s IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon. She has also enjoyed internship positions at Krupp Kommunications in New York City and Euro RSCG Worldwide PR in Pittsburgh. Upon graduation, Dana hopes to obtain a position in either entertainment public relations or human resources.
