Hannah George Writer Hannah George is an award winning writer. She has written extensively for television, including shows such as THE ADVENTURES OF PADDINGTON (Blue Zoo Animation Studio/Nikelodeon), THE DUMPING GROUND (CBBC), WOLFBLOOD (CBBC), THE HOUSE OF ANUBIS (Nickelodeon), TROLLIED (Sky1) and THE LODGE (Disney). SIMON NICHOLSON Simon Nicholson has written for film, theatre and television and has worked extensively in children’s TV. He is head writer of PJ MASKS for Entertainment One / Disney. He was part of the core writing team on BOB THE BUILDER for many years and was Lead-Writer/Script Editor for the BBC landmark show WAYBULOO (BAFTA nomination 2011). He is currently developing an original sci-fi adventure comedy series for 6-10s with Alpha and Jellyfish; his own upper-preschool series for Hasbro/eOne; and a new comedy for 6-10s with Method Animation. His credits range from pre-school to older age range comedy drama such as the BBC’s hit series TRACY BEAKER. Recently, he has worked widely for US broadcasters, on shows including ZACK AND QUACK (for which he wrote the first episode), TICKETY TOC, and PAW PATROL. He has worked as a story editor and development consultant for many companies, including Zodiak Media, Spinmaster, Funnyflux and Darrall Macquuen. Simon has dual UK-Canadian citizenship and is a member of the CAVCO scheme. BFI Launches 'See Yourself on Screen Challenge', Calling on 4-18 Year
BFI launches ‘See Yourself on Screen Challenge’, calling on 4-18 year olds to make their own mini-TV show whilst in lockdown Backed by doctor and TV personality Dr Ranj, with chance for young people to have their creations shown on national TV www.bfi.org.uk/seeyourselfonscreen 13th May 2020: The BFI today launches the See Yourself on Screen Challenge, calling on young people aged 4-18 from across the UK to create their own idea for a mini- TV show they can film at home while on lockdown. Backed by doctor, TV personality and See Yourself on Screen Challenge Ambassador Dr Ranj, the Challenge will see winning entrants receive expert tuition before their mini-TV show is aired on national TV across the Public Service Broadcasters. The See Yourself on Screen Challenge is a pan-industry initiative, led by the BFI through the publicly-funded Young Audiences Content Fund (YACF), and supported by a collective of industry partners; Channel 5’s Milkshake!, CITV, E4, S4C and TG4 are supporting as broadcaster partners, each airing a number of the mini-TV shows per their relevant age category below, whilst Animation UK, BAFTA Kids, The Children’s Media Conference, Into Film, FYI News, Pact and Northern Ireland Screen are also backing the challenge. The 30 second submissions will be judged by a panel of industry experts from each of the partner organisations, who will shortlist entries in three different age categories; age 4-7; age 8-13 and age 14-18. Here we present some of the fruits of that activity, such as the fi rst turnover fi gure for the combined Endemol Shine behemoth. What you won’t see, alas, is a fi gure for Zodiak, which is in a quiet period as it pre- pares to merge with Banijay; nor a clear refl ection of Twofour’s activity, as ITV Studios opts not to break out its operating companies’ individual revenues. 09 14 ITVS as a whole now generates revenues of more than £1bn; small wonder, then, that many indies fear what a commercial BBC Productions will do to the market. Drama is on a roll, with the top fi ve indies specialising in the genre growing their combined revenues by a third. Our highest new entry, Indian Summers producer New Pictures, symbolises drama’s swaggering global ambition right now: an international cast, a sumptuous budget, transatlantic partners and a 10-hour order secured from a spec script – and now a second series. Small wonder the producer was quickly snapped up by a resurgent All3Media, which also picked up Call The Midwife producer Neal Street Productions and is preparing to recharge Company Pictures. Elsewhere, young producers such as Plimsoll Productions and Knicker- bockerglory come bearing good news, buoyed by supersized factual orders. But the survey also shows how indies are clouded by the “state of suspended anticipation” identifi ed by Channel 4 chief executive David 16 36 Abraham, as the government asks tough questions of the future of our public service broadcasters.
