Sevilla FC have never won a UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie and could find improving on that record a tall order against Manchester United FC. • The Spanish side finished second in Group E and, with having replaced Eduardo Berizzo as coach in December, will now look to make it through to the quarter-finals at the fourth attempt. • Manchester United, the Group A winners, are at this stage for the first time since 2013/14 but have plenty of cause for confidence having lost only once in their last eight visits to Spain. Match background Sevilla • The Spanish side have lost all three of their previous round of 16 ties. In 200708 they were beaten 3-2 on penalties by Fenerbahçe SK after a 5-5 aggregate draw (2-3 away, 3-2 home); two years later they lost 3-2 over two legs against PFC CSKA Moskva (1-1 away, 1-2 home) and they lost 3-2 to Leicester City FC 12 months ago (2-1 home, 0- 2 away). • Sevilla picked up seven points at home in Group E. A Wissam Ben Yedder hat-trick secured a 3-0 victory over NK Maribor on matchday two before FC Spartak Moskva were beaten 2-1. That record looked under threat when Liverpool FC raced into a three-goal half-time lead on matchday five, but Sevilla staged a remarkable fightback to snatch a 3-3 draw. • The Spanish club have won six of their last nine European home matches, losing one and drawing the other two, against Liverpool and İstanbul Başakşehir in this season's play-offs (2-2). • Sevilla suffered their first, and only, home loss to English visitors when succumbing 3-1 to Manchester City FC in the 2015/16 UEFA Champions League group stage. They were 2-1 winners against Leicester in last season's round of 16 first leg, but bowed out after going down 2-0 away. • The Andalusian club's record at home to English teams is W3 D1 L1. • Sevilla's record in two-legged knockout ties against sides is W1 L1. Aside from last season's defeat by Leicester, they beat Tottenham Hotspur FC 4-3 on aggregate in the quarter-finals of their victorious 2006/07 UEFA Cup campaign (2-1 home, 2-2 away). Manchester United • This is the English club's tenth round of 16 tie (W6 L3), and their first since facing Olympiacos FC in 2013/14 (0-2 away, 3-0 home). Having lost their first two last-16 contests, United have won all but one of the most recent seven. • The Manchester outfit have won only two of their nine away games at this stage (D4 L3). • United's record in two-legged ties against Spanish clubs is W6 L7. • This is United's eighth European match this term and their second against Spanish opposition, their campaign having started with a 2-1 loss to Real Madrid CF in the UEFA Super Cup in Skopje on 8 August. That ended United's 11-game unbeaten run (W8 D3) since a 2-1 reversal at Fenerbahçe SK on matchday four of last season's UEFA Europa League. The defeat in Istanbul had been their fifth in nine European fixtures. • The Red Devils won all but one of their six Group A games; away from home they beat CSKA Moskva 4-1 on matchday two before a 1-0 success at SL Benfica in the third round of fixtures. The sole blemish was their 1-0 matchday five reverse at FC Basel 1893. • Those losses to Madrid and Basel are United's only reverses in their last 18 European matches, home and away (W13 D3). The Basel loss ended a seven-game unbeaten European away record (W5 D2) since that setback at Fenerbahçe. • José Mourinho's side got the better of Spanish opposition in last season's UEFA Europa League semi-finals, winning 1-0 at RC Celta de Vigo in the first leg thanks to a Marcus Rashford free-kick. They went through 2-1 on aggregate with a 1-1 home draw, Marouane Fellaini scoring for United. • That UEFA Super Cup defeat by Madrid means United have now won two of their last 11 matches against Spanish clubs, with four draws and five defeats in that time. The Red Devils have also won five of their last 22 matches with Liga opposition (D9 L8). • United have played 50 times against Liga clubs, with the record W13 D20 L17. Away their record is W3 D10 L10. • United have contested three finals with Spanish sides – all against FC Barcelona. They were 2-1 winners in the 1990/91 European Cup Winners' Cup final in Rotterdam but lost 2-0 in 2008/09 in Rome and 3-1 in London in 2010/11, both in the UEFA Champions League.

Sevilla won only two of their first seven games after matchday six (D1 L4) but won the next three, only to embark on a three-match sequence without a victory (D2 L1) before winning the last three, most recently Saturday's 2-1 success at UD Las Palmas. • Sevilla have, however, reached the Copa del Rey final. They will play Barcelona at the Estadio Metropolitano, home of Atlético Madrid, on 21 April after knocking out Cádiz CF (4-1 on aggregate), Atlético themselves (5-2) and CD

12 Sevilla FC - Manchester United FC Wednesday 21 February 2018 - 20.45CET (20.45 local time) Match press kit Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, Seville Head coach Vincenzo Montella Date of birth: 18 June 1974 Nationality: Italian Playing career: Empoli FC, Genoa CFC, UC Sampdoria (twice), AS Roma, Fulham FC (loan) Coaching career: AS Roma (caretaker), Calcio Catania, ACF Fiorentina, UC Sampdoria, AC Milan, Sevilla FC • A quick and opportunistic striker, Montella played for Roma from 1999 to 2009, scoring 84 goals in 192 Serie A games and winning the 2001 Scudetto and the 2007 Coppa Italia. He managed three goals in 20 caps for Italy, appearing in the UEFA EURO 2000 final and at the 2002 FIFA World Cup. • Made his name at Empoli, scoring 17 league goals in the 1994/95 Serie C1 campaign. Moved to Genoa, scoring 21 Serie B goals before joining city rivals Sampdoria in 1996. In three years in Serie A with the Blucerchiati, Montella registered 54 goals to earn a switch to Roma. • After 18 goals during his first season in the Italian capital, he fell behind and Marco Delvecchio in Fabio Capello's plans. However the Aeroplanino – 'The Little Airplane' in reference to his small stature and trademark goal celebration – finished the season strongly, his 13 goals instrumental as the Giallorossi won their third Scudetto, the first since 1983. • With the exception of two loan spells at Fulham and Sampdoria, Montella continued to play for Roma until his retirement in 2009. Promptly moved into coaching within Roma's youth system, taking charge of the Under-15 side before temporarily stepping up to the first team in February 2011 following Claudio Ranieri's resignation. • Spent 2011/12 in charge of Catania before three years at Fiorentina, whom he took to the 2014 Coppa Italia final and the semi-finals of the 2014/15 UEFA Europa League. Led Sampdoria between November 2015 and his departure for Milan in June 2016; won the Italian Super Cup that December but dismissed in November 2017 after a slow start to that season. Resurfaced in Spain with Sevilla, succeeding Eduardo Berizzo on 28 December 2017.

José Mourinho Date of birth: 26 January 1963 Nationality: Portuguese Coaching career: SL Benfica, UD Leiria, FC Porto, Chelsea FC (twice), FC Internazionale Milano, Real Madrid CF, Manchester United FC • A former teacher, Mourinho had spells working at Sporting Clube de Portugal, Porto and FC Barcelona as a coaching assistant in the 1990s. • As coach, had a nine-game stay at Benfica and a highly successful tenure at Leiria before really making his mark after arriving at Porto in January 2002. In his first full season, 2002/03, Porto won the UEFA Cup and a domestic double. The next year they retained their league title and claimed the UEFA Champions League with a 3-0 defeat of AS FC in Gelsenkirchen. • Joined Chelsea in 2004 and led the club to the League Cup and their first league championship for 50 years in his first season. Followed up with the league title again in 2006, and both the League Cup and FA Cup in 2007 but left the club that September. • Joined Inter in June 2008 and in his first campaign retained the Scudetto, a feat the Nerazzurri repeated in 2009/10 when they also added the Coppa Italia and the UEFA Champions League title, their first European crown since 1965. • Victory at the Santiago Bernabéu was Mourinho's last act as Inter coach before he joined Madrid. His first season featured the club's first Copa del Rey victory in 18 years and his second brought the Liga title; also led Madrid to three successive UEFA Champions League semi-finals before returning to Chelsea at the start of June 2013. • Won a third Premier League title with the London club in 2015, also adding the English League Cup. Left in December 2015 and appointed Manchester United manager the following summer, leading the club to the League Cup and the UEFA Europa League in his first season in charge.

UEFA Champions League knockout stage: Did you know? • Teams have overturned a first-leg deficit to go through 40 times, including FC Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, Leicester City FC and AS Monaco FC in the 2016/17 round of 16. Only twice – AFC Ajax's defeat of Panathinaikos FC in the 1995/96 semi-finals and FC Internazionale Milano's victory against FC Bayern München in the 2010/11 round of 16 – has a side progressed after a home first-leg loss. • The biggest losing margin a side has overhauled was achieved by FC Barcelona against Paris Saint-Germain in the 2016/17 last 16, when they lost 4-0 away but progressed thanks to a 6-1 home success. That eclipsed the previous record held by RC Deportivo La Coruña in the 2003/04 quarter-finals, when they went down 4-1 at AC Milan but won 4-0 at home. • Twenty-eight ties have been decided on away goals, including nine where the triumphant team lost the first leg. • In all, 28 ties have required extra time. Twelve have been settled by extra time alone: five round of 16 encounters, five quarter-finals including Real Madrid CF-FC Bayern München in 2016/17, the 2007/08 semi-final between Chelsea and Liverpool FC, and the 2013/14 final. • Sixteen ties have gone to penalties, including seven finals – 1996, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2008, 2012 and 2016. The first two-legged tie decided on spot kicks was PSV Eindhoven's 4-2 victory over on 13 April 2005 after a 2-2 aggregate draw, still the only quarter-final to go to penalties. • The 2015/16 round of 16 tie between Club Atlético de Madrid and PSV was the first to finish goalless after two legs. Thirteen have finished 1-0 on aggregate, most recently Real Madrid CF's defeat of Manchester City FC in the 2015/16 semi-finals. • Liverpool FC won 5-0 at FC Porto in the 2017/18 round of 16, equalling the knockout phase record for the biggest first-leg lead – Real Madrid's 6-1 victory at FC Schalke 04 in 2013/14 and Bayern's 5-0 success at Sporting Clube de Portugal in 2008/09, both also in the round of 16. Bayern eventually went through 12-1 after a 7-1 stroll in the home second leg; that tie also featured more goals (13) over its two legs than any UEFA Champions League knockout tie. • Bayern hold the record for the largest margin of victory in a UEFA Champions League knockout match having beaten both FC Basel 1893 (2011/12) and FC Shakhtar Donetsk (2014/15) 7-0 in the round of 16 second leg. • Clarence Seedorf is the only player to lift the European Cup with three clubs (Ajax 1995, Real Madrid 1998, Milan 2003, 2007). Bob Paisley (Liverpool 1977, 1978, 1981) was the first coach to win three times, a feat Carlo Ancelotti (Milan 2003, 2007, Real Madrid 2014) replicated. • In 2014 Ancelotti also became the fifth coach to win the trophy with two clubs; Ottmar Hitzfeld (Borussia Dortmund 1997, Bayern 2001), Ernst Happel (Feyenoord 1970, Hamburger SV 1983), José Mourinho (FC Porto 2004, Internazionale 2010) and Jupp Heynckes (Real Madrid 1998, Bayern 2013) had previously achieved the feat. • In 2016/17 Real Madrid became the first team to successfully defend the UEFA Champions League trophy, with Milan (1989, 1990) the previous club to win consecutive European Cups. Milan (1994, 1995), Ajax (1995, 1996), Juventus (1996, 1997) and Manchester United (2008, 2009) have all returned to the UEFA Champions League final as holders only to lose. • Only two sides have ever won the UEFA Champions League on home soil: Dortmund (1997, final in Munich) and Juventus (1996, final in Rome). Manchester United lost the 2011 final in London and 12 months later Bayern were beaten in the showpiece in their own stadium, the Fußball Arena München. UEFA Champions League: Did you know? • became the first player to score five goals in a match in FC Barcelona's 7-1 triumph against Bayer 04 Leverkusen on 7 March 2012, a feat reproduced by FC Shakhtar Donetsk's Luiz Adriano at FC BATE Borisov on 21 October 2014. Eleven more players, also including Messi, have scored four times in a game, most recently for Real Madrid on matchday six in 2015/16. • Cristiano Ronaldo set a new record for a UEFA Champions League group stage with 11 goals in 2015/16, eclipsing his own mark of nine goals in 2013/14, which Luiz Adriano matched in 2014/15 and Ronaldo himself equalled in 2017/18. Lionel Messi got ten goals in 2016/17; Zlatan Ibrahimović (2013/14), Ruud van Nistelrooy (2004/05), Filippo Inzaghi and Hernán Crespo (both 2002/03) managed eight. • Messi's hat-trick against Manchester City FC on matchday three of the 2016/17 competition was his seventh in the competition, a record Ronaldo matched against Club Atlético de Madrid in the 2016/17 semi-finals. • SS Lazio goalkeeper Marco Ballotta is the oldest player to compete at this level, having been aged 43 years and 252

(37 years and 290 days) was the previous record holder. • Celestine Babayaro is the youngest player to have appeared – he was 16 years and 87 days when he started for RSC Anderlecht against FC Steaua Bucureşti on 23 November 1994. He was sent off in the 37th minute. • Peter Ofori-Quaye is the youngest player to have scored, aged 17 years and 195 days, in Olympiacos FC's 5-1 reverse at Rosenborg BK on 1 October 1997.
