Bolton Wanderers Vs Newcastle United U21’S COMPLIMENTARY MATCHDAY SUPPLEMENT/ BOLTON WANDERERS VS NEWCASTLE UNITED U21’S PAPA JOHN’S TROPHY TUESDAY 17 NOVEMBER 2020 | K.O 7PM CLUB COMMUNITY ONE TOWN IAN EVATT I’d like to wish you all a good evening as you prepare to watch tonight’s final group game of our Papa John’s Trophy campaign on iFollow. A warm welcome also to our visitors this evening who have travelled down from the North East. Tonight’s game gives me the opportunity to give minutes to some of the players who have not featured regularly in the first team over recent weeks. Some of these players have got things to prove to me and show that they are ready to be called upon again. It’s an audition. Every time you step on the grass it’s an audition and you’re performing for yourselves, for the club, for the fans, for me, for your families and you have to have that mentality and mindset. Now obviously they’re out of the team so you have to make sure that you go and show the manager what you’re about and what you’re capable of and then put yourself in his thoughts.The most important people at any football club aren’t the starting 11, they’re easy to keep happy. It’s the ones outside of that and they have to understand that the whole club can only perform if they’re performing. The ones who started on Friday in our win against Salford will not be involved because there are so many games coming up and we need to rest their legs. The likes of Gethin Jones, Andy Tutte, Eoin Doyle, who haven’t played too often recently, we need to give them time to recover. The rest – Ricard Santos, Ryan Delaney, Antoni Sarcevic – they are quickly becoming big players for us and we have to look after them. We are sad that we cannot progress in this competition because I think the two games we’ve had have been close. I think we played well against Crewe, we’d got ahead, then level and then just gave the result away. It is unfortunate but every cloud has a silver lining and I’d like to give some of the younger ones some minutes to help their progression.     Hello All, Hope you all had a fantastic weekend and it was great to see, in some limited ways, football fans back into stadiums in England last Saturday afternoon. Below were the ‘sell out’ scenes at Carrow Road where Norwich left it late to rescue a point against Preston North End as Canaries fans were able to bask in the late summer sun in East Anglia. They were scenes played out at a few other grounds around the country and we all had our fingers crossed that if we could all behave in the next few weeks we would soon be able to start watching our favourite teams in person. The news that came on Tuesday afternoon when Boris Johnson spoke to the nation really came as a blow to us all and the chances of getting crowds into grounds this season now really looks a long way off. Did Brentford deliberately try and make their new stadium look like a Subbuteo Stadium? If they did, they nailed it as it hardly looks real when you are watching on television! I have to say having been a regular over the past few seasons to Brentford I would really miss my trips to the tight confines of the old ground and it will be interesting to see how the Bess perform in their home. Griffin Park smelt of Bovril whenever I stepped through its gates and I mean that in the very nicest of ways as it had the feel of an incredibly old football ground steeped in history. Yes, clubs need to move forward and progress but I can’t help but feel that Brentford has lost a part of their history.
