香港賽馬會呈獻：珍古德的叢林啟迪 The Hong Kong Jockey Club Presents: Becoming Jane — Inspiring a Shared Planet
珍古德博士是著名的人道主義及環境保護主義者，她在研究初期花了多年時間觀察黑猩猩在原生 棲息地的行為，了解牠們的生活特性。在過去數十年間，珍古德博士對人類活動所造成的環境破 壞愈加關注，因而致力推廣環境保護及教育活動，包括成立慈善機構，以培育公眾環保意識。珍 古德博士身體力行，平均每年約有300日在全球進行演講，鼓勵世界各地的人士盡其所能，共同 創造一個更美好的世界。這展覽將首次全面展示珍古德博士的早期科學發現，並用互動展覽的形 式訴說她對環境保護和青年賦權等方面的貢獻。透過分享珍古德博士的故事，我們希望啟迪香港 青少年，以行動保護野生動植物和環境，並在日常生活上選擇可持續的生活模式。
Dr. Jane Goodall is a noted humanitarian, environmentalist, and has spent many years observing the behaviour of chimpanzees in their native habitat. In the past few decades, Jane has been increasingly concerned about the damage to the environment and since then she has devoted her time to campaigning and acting as an advocate for environmental charities and concerns. She has an exhaustive travelling schedule and speaks on average 300 days a year, encouraging people to do what they can to create a better world. This exhibition is the first ever holistic presentation of the early scientific discoveries of Dr. Jane Goodall, and it showcases her dedicated contribution in environmental conservation and youth empowerment through various interactives. With Dr. Goodall’s story, we wish to empower Hong Kong youth to take constructive actions in protecting the wildlife and our environment and also live a sustainable lifestyle.

The first rule to become a wild rescue team is to understand the physiological structures of different animal. In "Be the Wildlife Ranger" workshop, instructor will use drawings to explain the characteristics of some animals and share interesting animal stories.

Dr. Jane Goodall’s story inspired young people around the world to work on environmental and animal protection. Dr. Jane Goodall is well known for her pioneering research on Chimpanzee behaviour in the wild. Jane long ago realised that to save the Chimpanzees and other endangered species she would have to educate people all over the world about the need to understand, protect and conserve nature. This new mission has taken Dr. Goodall many times around the world, and four times (five times in November 2002) to China. 有沒有想過在炎炎夏日，可以參與到高山滑雪、雪車、雪球大戰等雪地活動呢？今個暑假，科學 館特別把冬季運動帶到香港，讓大家一嘗做冬季運動員，考驗你們的運動技巧！
「冬季冰運會」展覽設有二十組互動展品，包括跳台滑雪、冰球、迴轉滑雪和冰壺等，讓你一次過 嘗試多種新奇刺激的冬季運動。展覽詳述每項運動的歷史、比賽形式和規則，以及這些運動背後 的科學原理，助你掌握竅門，找出致勝關鍵。你可以試試模仿花樣滑冰選手，挑戰高難度的旋轉 動作；你亦可以參與緊張刺激的冬季兩項，測試你的滑雪速度和射擊眼界；你更可以坐上雪車， 體驗如何與隊友合作，以極速衝向終點；你又可以擲出冰壺，讓冰壺依照所想的路線滑行；你還 可以學習不同的冰球抽擊方法，以最有效率的方式取得入球。

Have you ever thought of enjoying winter sports such as alpine skiing, bobsleighing, and snowball fighting in the middle of the summer? This summer, the Hong Kong Science Museum will provide you with the experience of these fascinating winter sports. You can experience being a winter sports athlete and challenge your sport skills! The “Winter Games” exhibition features 20 interactive exhibits, including ski jumping, ice hockey, slalom and curling, allowing you to experience a variety of amazing and exciting games. Besides introducing the history, how the sports are played and their rules, the exhibition will also explain the scientific principles behind the sports that help you to master the tricks and discover the key to success. In the exhibition, you can imitate a figure skater, attempting some challenging rotations; participate in an exciting biathlon to test your skiing speed and shooting accuracy; get into a bobsleigh and work with your teammates as you speed to the finish line; deliver a curling stone and make it slides to the desired position or learn different ice hockey shots to score in the most efficient way. Don’t miss this all-inclusive carnival of winter activites. Come and experience the fun of snow activities. Perhaps you will become a future gold medalist in the Winter Olympics!

物理頌2019 – 物理專題講座系列 量子通訊與加密：當費曼和香農相遇 Celebrating Physics 2019 : A Series of Public Lectures Quantum Communication and Cryptography: When Feynman Meets Shannon 量子力學精確描述微觀世界的物性。由香農在1948年建立的信息理論則研究信息加密、傳遞及 轉換。量子力學和信息理論兩者看似無關，其實不然。費曼在1982年提到利用量子計算機作量 子力學混算的可能性，為量子信息科學的發展奠下基礎。是次講座將會利用量子通訊和量子加密 為例，介紹量子信息科學。
Quantum mechanics deals with the property of matter in the microscopic world. On the other hand, information theory founded by Shannon in 1948 studies the reliable encryption, transmission and transformation of information. These two research disciplines seem to be totally irrelevant. However, in 1982, Feynman looked into the possibility of using quantum computers to perform certain quantum mechanical calculations. His vision laid the foundation of quantum information science. This lecture gives an overview on quantum information science by taking quantum communication and cryptography as examples.

The University Grants Committee and Research Grants Council have been supporting the Hong Kong higher education sector to undertake many exciting academic research projects over the years. 地球正值氣候變化，我們應基於科學和極地研究所收集的數據，及早制定各種緩減氣候變化和 預測氣候的方案。香港極地研究中心 —「紫荊站」於2018年9月在挪威斯瓦爾巴群島的朗伊爾城建 立，並配備了物理、生物和環境研究的基礎設施。這講座將介紹香港科學家在極地的科研工作。
While climate change is an undeniable fact, we should consider early actions for reducing, mitigating, forecasting and resilient work without delay. All these jobs should be based on science and scientific data collected by polar research. The Polar Research Institute of Hong Kong – The Bauhinia Station has been established since September 2018 in Longyearbyen of Norwegian Svalbard Isles and equipped with fundamental facilities for physical, biological and environmental research. This lecture introduces the scientific research in the arctic region carried out by Hong Kong scientists.

科研之路是否困難重重、孤單寂寞，還是充滿樂趣和驚喜呢？是次論壇將會由2019邵逸夫獎得 獎者為大家分享他們在科研之路上的經歷。
另設專題展覽，以介紹各得獎者的傑出貢獻，並會深入淺出地闡述相關學術領域的基礎科學知識。
The Shaw Prize is an international award to honour individuals who are currently active in their respective fields and who have recently achieved distinguished and significant advances, who have made outstanding contributions in academic and scientific research or applications, or who in other domains have achieved excellence. The award is dedicated to furthering societal progress, enhancing quality of life, and enriching humanity’s spiritual civilisation. Is doing science and research lonely and difficult or, on the contrary, full of fun and amazement? Shaw Laureates of 2019 will share their experience in this forum. So don't miss this chance to meet them face-to-face. In addition, special exhibitions have been organised to introduce the Shaw Laureates and their outstanding contributions, as well as the basic science knowledge in the respective academic fields.

化學元素週期表是現代科學中最重要、最具影響力的成就之一，它是化學、物理學和生物學的 根基。2019年是俄羅斯科學家門捷列夫創建化學元素週期表150周年。聯合國大會將2019年定 為「化學元素週期表國際年」（IYPT2019）。
香港科學館特別邀請了香港科技大學化學系講師陳鈞傑博士（綽號火博士）為大家演出一系列精 采絕倫的科學示範，名為「元素的真性情」以慶祝IYPT2019。火博士將帶領大家走進元素週期 表的世界，透過精采的實驗和珍貴的元素樣本，讓你探索各種元素的真本色，細聽它們的故事。
The Periodic Table of Chemical Elements is one of the most significant achievements in science, capturing the essence not only of chemistry, but also of physics and biology. The year 2019 marks the 150th anniversary of its creation by Russian scientist Dmitry Ivanovich Mendeleev. The Year was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly as "International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements 2019" (IYPT2019). To support IYPT2019, Hong Kong Science Museum has invited Dr. Jason Chan, lecturer of the Department of Chemistry at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, to perform a series of extraordinary science demonstrations, namely “The Elements of the Periodic Table”. In the demonstration, he will showcase spectacular experiments and unique element samples, by which you will be taken into the world of the elements to explore their individual properties and listen to their fascinating stories.

年輕人充滿熱誠、追尋理想和夢想，及對未來充滿憧憬。而歷史悠久的聯校科學展覽，為每位熱 愛科學的學生提供一個追夢的平台。
聯校科學展覽籌備委員會在過去51年來都致力向本地學生推廣科學，並透過有趣而具挑戰性的 活動，從而引起大眾對科學的興趣。在每年八月舉行的聯校科學展覽更是着重鼓勵本地中學生互 相合作，更邀請外地學生參與和交流，讓各地學生能在比賽中一展所長、互相切磋。在比賽過程 中，籌委會更會邀請大學教授指導參賽同學，以提高參賽者展品的水準，務求令參展隊伍於展覽 中展示他們費盡心思而製成的參賽作品。
本年度的主題為「旅途」，參賽者會分析影響旅途質素的因素，運用科學加以改進，並從安全、 健康、環保三方面作出不同的創新，藉此改善旅遊時的環境和設備，協助大眾適應身處外地時普 遍會遇到的不便，以提升人們的旅遊質素。
歡迎公眾人士參觀。 Youngsters are full of passion. They pursue their ideals and dreams, and have in high hopes of the future. The Joint School Science Exhibition has a long and rich history of providing every student who loves science with a platform to pursue their dreams. For the past 51 years, the Joint School Science Exhibition Preparation Committee (JSSEPC) was devoted to promote science to local students; and at the same time, to increase the public’s interest on science through intriguing and challenging events. The Joint School Science Exhibition, which is held every August, emphasises on encouraging cooperation amongst local secondary school students. To facilitate exchange, overseas students are also invited to participate, hence students from all over the world could show their talent and learn from each other in the competition. During the competition, the Committee would also invite professors from universities to coach participants and bring their works to another level. It is hoped that the participating teams could showcase the works with their blood, sweat, and tears in the exhibition. The theme of this year is “Journey”, participants have to analyse different factors affecting the quality of a journey, and improve travelling conditions and facilities through scientific innovation from three aspects - safety, health and environmental-friendliness. It is hoped that the students’ works could assist the public to adapt to inconveniences that are commonly encountered during travelling, and ultimately improving the quality of journey. The public is welcome to visit the exhibition.

2019科普快遞科學演示比賽 SciPOP Science Demonstration Contest 2019
為培育中學生對科學知識的探究、提升學生的溝通能力和傳意技巧，以及培養香港新一代的科研 人材，香港科學館及教育局合辦「2019科普快遞科學演示比賽」。今年的比賽以「科技與可持 續未來」為主題，已於4月27日圓滿結束，參賽隊伍施展渾身解數，透過實驗示範及運用道具向 觀眾講解綠色科技背後的科學原理。經過一番角逐後，各獎項得主順利誕生，賽果如下：
To foster the pursuit of science knowledge among secondary school students, to enhance their presentation and communication skills, and to nurture young scientists in Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Science Museum and the Education Bureau jointly organised the “SciPOP Science Demonstration Contest 2019” with the theme of “Technology for a Sustainable Future”. The contest was successfully concluded on 27 April. Through demonstration of experiments and use of props, the finalists tried the whole bag of tricks to explain the science behind green technologies to the audience.
