During the visit Minister Brock, for the first time, experienced underground opal mining first hand at Toms Working Opal Mine and got down and dirty digging for opal. Experiences such as these mean the decisions Governments make specifically around regional development, tourism and community and economic development are based to real, tactile and tangible local experiences. It means decisions are more effective, more meaningful and more relevant to local and regional conditions, circumstances and opportunities. Hosting Minister Brock demonstrates a real commitment by the Coober Pedy Council to engage closely, meaningfully and substantively with Government to build support and enthusiasm for investment in regional South Australia and in Coober Pedy.
