S ACRED HEARTS PARISH THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST JUNE 6, 2021 Strength in faith can move mountains. The faith of a little-known nun and mystic, St. Juliana of Mont Cornillon, experienced visions in which the Lord instructed her to establish a liturgical feast for the Holy Eucharist. Around that time, Fr. Peter of Prague having doubts of the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist, experienced a . As he recited the prayer of consecration, blood seeped from the consecrated host. The confirmed the visions of St. Juliana and soon after, Pope Urban IV instituted Corpus Christi for the Universal Church which celebrates Christ’s Body and Blood in the Real Presence in the Eucharist. The recognizes several Eucharistic ; the Miracle of Lanciano (Italy), and Eucharistic miracle of O Cebreiro (Spain) just to name two. In 2018, Fr. John, Betty, Dcn. Eric and I came upon a surprise when we walked the Camino in a region of Galicia, Spain. We came to a stone church in the village of O Cebreiro, which has enshrined in a crystal reliquary in the chapel, a blood-stained chalice, paten and corporal. The following year in 2019, Dcn. Eric and I visited the church of San Francesco, in Lanciano, Italy, where openly displayed in a spectacular reliquary, is the Sacred Host and five globules of blood. A truly holy experience. The catechism states, “The Eucharist is source and summit of the Christian life. For in the blessed Eucharist is contained the whole spiritual good of the Church, namely Christ Himself, our Pasch” ccc 1324. How do we know this? We know this because Jesus said it at The Last Supper, ‘Jesus took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to His disciples, saying, “’Take it; this is My body.’ Then He took a cup, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, and they all drank from it. ‘This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many.’” Mk. 14:22-24. Jesus instituted the first Holy Eucharist. The Eucharist is a pure gift; a pure act of love for us. Jesus is the perfect high priest who passed into the heavenly tabernacle. He is also the most perfect sacrifice, who with His own blood, obtained eternal redemption for us. Adoration is another way we proclaim the belief in the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. Through prayer, thanksgiving and adoration in the Blessed Sacrament we foster a deeper love and devotion for God by spending time with Him. Spending time with Him brings me peace and cultivates a better relationship with Jesus. When I go to Jesus, it is the best part of my whole day. “If we really love the good God, we will find it a joy and happiness to spend some time near Him, to adore Him and keep company with so good a friend. He is there in the tabernacle. What is Jesus doing in this sacrament of love? He is loving us”. ~St. John Vianney In hospitality, Jesus invites us to His table not merely as guests but as His family to be nourished. Jesus is food for our life journey. The Eucharist sends us out into the world ready to give expression to Jesus’ hospitality, humility and self- effacement. Eucharist, the Word made Flesh, has in it strength that no power on earth can withstand. That power is Agape love. This love moves mountains and transforms the world. Each one of us is that mountain. One does not need to experience these miracles mentioned above to witness a truly holy experience. We experience the same loving Jesus, the Pascal Lamb, at every mass. Every Mass we witness this Divine miracle given to us by receiving Jesus and Jesus receiving us, living in us. St. Thérèse of Lisieux once said, “Jesus transforms a white particle into Himself every day in order to communicate His life to you. What’s more, with a love that is greater still, He wants to transform you into Himself.” Under Eucharist we are all one by partaking in His feast, Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity. In His peace, Renée Peabody, Parishioner

Disciples in Mission Parish Update

Disciples in Mission is an Archdiocese program to renew the Church in Boston through evangelization in each parish and bring others more fully to Christ Jesus. Below are our five goals for this important mission.

Service/Charity We want to increase the amount of volunteers performing acts of service for the community. By December 2023, we hope to increase our volunteers by thirty people and start two new service projects. A service/charity committee will be formed to oversee this.

Vocations We plan to establish a committee of three to five people to create a culture of vocational awareness in every stage of life through prayer, annual events, and communications, integrating vocations and in existing lifelong faith-formation programs.

Lifelong Adult Faith Formation We plan to create an adult faith-formation committee, including at least one young adult member. By March 2022, we plan to have gathered information on faith-formation needs and have trained the committee. By December 2023, we plan to have started a minimum of two adult faith formation opportunities for people of all ages, at least one of which will be for young adults.

Leadership Formation We want to empower and train fifteen people to use and develop their gifts and leadership skills to be an example to others and bring others to Christ through evangelization by December 2023.

Rebuilding Community/Hospitality We plan to form a hospitality committee by the end of June 2021. We aim to establish outreach and post-pandemic transition goals by September 2021, culminating in new monthly events to begin in the fall of 2021.

To share your ideas for how to achieve these goals, send your thoughts to the Disciple in Mission, DIM, committee at [email protected]. Input from parishioners is always appreciated!

Yours in Christ, The Disciples in Mission Committee

S ACRED HEARTS PARISH THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST JUNE 6, 2021 Congratulations to all our students who will receive their first communion this weekend. May the love, joy, and thanksgiving for Jesus’ true presence in the Eucharist be a living example of our faith. We pray for all our First Communion students and families. May they come to love Jesus in the Eucharist as food for the journey. May they be instruments of love, kindness, and goodness to the world. May Jesus draw them close to His and always shower them with blessings. We love you all!

PRAYER TO THE TWO HEARTS OF JESUS AND MARY The Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a solemnity in the Roman Catholic Church and is celebrated nineteen days after Pentecost. Since Pentecost is always celebrated on Sunday, Feast of the Sacred Heart will be on a Friday. The Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is on Friday, June 11th. The Alliance of the Heart of Jesus and Mary is based on the joint devotions to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary is celebrated on the Saturday after the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. It falls on Saturday, June 12th. In preparation for these two Feasts, here is a Novena Prayer to the Two Hearts of Jesus and Mary. Let us recite this Novena from Sunday, June 6th, to Saturday, June 12th.

DID YOU KNOW? Did you know the Catholic Church teaches that when we receive the Eucharist we are receiving the actual body, blood, soul and divinity of Jesus Christ ? While the bread and wine of Communion retain their appearances, we believe that through the priest’s words of consecration, Christ becomes truly present for us to receive. This belief is based on Christ’s own words at the Last Supper, when we believe He instituted this divine sacrament: “This is my body, which will be given for you…” (Lk. 22:19) and “…for this is my blood of the covenant…” (Mt. 26:28) O Heart of Jesus pierced for our sins and giving us your Accordingly, the Second Vatican Council in its Mother on Calvary!
