Bar Mitzvah of Justin Wurtenberger (February 23, 2019)

With pride, love, and happiness, we announce the Bar Mitzvah of our son, Justin. Justin is a 7th grade student in the finance program at Duncan Middle School. In Justin’s free time you can find him on the golf course, hanging out with his friends and brother Cooper, or cheering on the Miami Dolphins, Miami Heat, Miami Marlins, Florida Panthers, and his beloved Florida Gators. He is also the chairman of his fantasy football league.

Although it feels like he was just born, on December 31, 2018 Justin read from the Torah at the Western Wall in Jerusalem. He wore his Poppy Herb’s Tallis and celebrated this milestone on his Papa Sy’s birthday—the great-grandfather for whom he’s named. Words cannot express the overwhelming joy we felt watching him become a Bar Mitzvah in Israel. The trip to Israel solidified Justin’s Jewish roots. It taught him about the history, strength, struggles, and triumphs of his ancestors and led him to become a hummus connoisseur.

We would like to thank Rabbi Alon Levkovitz, Cantorial Soloist Marcy Morris, Rabbinic Intern Brett Tancer, and all the amazing Temple Beth Am teachers and staff for preparing Justin for this special day.

Justin, our hearts are so full of love and pride, they can barely be contained in our chests. We love you and the wonderful person you are. We look forward to continuing to watch you evolve into the man you will become.

On Sunday, January 13, TBA Men’s Club hosted Hector Picard, a bilateral arm amputee who spoke at TBA about his journey and inspiring true life story overcoming adversity (something we Jews have been doing for over 3,000 years). Hector has competed in over 200 tri-events including 5 Ironman races (including Hawaii in 2016). The day started with a brisk 24-mile bike ride (or 32-mile for the group from Boynton Beach) at 7:00am. Hector then delivered a fantastic inspirational speech to over 100 TBA members, guests, and cyclists from the area. Afterward, he gave a different presentation to 100 TBA Religious School 3rd-7th graders who were captivated by his story, which included an anti-bullying discussion. A special thank you to Hector and the DogHouse MultiSport Training and Cycling Center for pulling all this together. WPTV News did an interview and posted a short video of the event on YouTube. This video is posted on the Temple Facebook page for anyone who would like to watch it. THANK YOU TO OUR EVENT SPONSORS: DogHouse MultiSport (Boca Raton), Beyond Bikes (Stuart), Synergy Health & Wellness (Jupiter), Nutrition World (Palm Beach Gardens), Keyes Coverage (Tamarac), First Citizens Bank (Tequesta), Wahoo Triathlon Club (Palm Beach County), Arline & Mark Slifkin, and Linda & Mel Wolfe.
