REEDER MEDIA CENTER FESTIVAL INFO FESTIVAL VENUESWORKSHOPS & PARKING Kimball Theatre, 428 W Duke of Gloucester Street Several parking lots near Kimball Theatre offer 1-2 hour parking. Prince George Parking Garage located at 230 North Henry Street offers parking for $1 per hour, $12 maximum per day. The garage is open daily from 6:00 AM to Midnight. Overnight parking is not permitted. Tucker Theater, 350 James Blair Drive Hourly spaces are available nearby along Richmond Road, Prince George Street, and near Merchants Square. After 5 PM on Friday, guests without W&M parking decals may park in W&M spaces on James Blair Drive and by Zable Stadium through the end of the festival. Reeder Media Center, Swem Library, 400 Landrum Drive Guests may park at metered spaces outside the Muscarelle Museum of Art (60 min max) or purchase a visitor’s pass from W&M Parking Services. Hourly parking is also available by the Kimball Theater in the Merchants Square area, a 10-15 minute walk from Swem Library. After 5 PM on Friday, the parking lots located behind Swem Library and by the Muscarelle Museum of Art are free and open to the public. TICKETING Tickets may be purchased online through the festival website, filmfestival.wm.edu, through January 30th. During the festival, tickets may be purchased at the Kimball Theatre Box Office. Reception tickets may only be purchased online.All-access passes are not available for purchase for the 2019 festival. General admission tickets are free, $5, or $10 depending on the event. Tickets are not issued for free programs and seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. W&M student tickets are free for all events in Kimball Theatre and Tucker Theater (limit one ticket per student ID). Cash and major credit cards are accepted. All sales are final. SOLD OUT EVENTS - RUSH LINE POLICY Unclaimed tickets may become available at the door. Ten minutes before an event begins, unclaimed tickets will be available to patrons waiting in a rush line. We do not have control over when rush lines will form and cannot advise patrons on an arrival time to join or form a line. Saving places in a rush line is not permitted. A maximum of two tickets per person will be sold. There is no guarantee we will have unclaimed tickets at the door; however, a small number of tickets will likely be available for any sold out events. ADDITIONAL DETAILS Doors open twenty minutes prior to each program. The theatre will be cleared after each event. Ticket holders must be in the theatre ten minutes prior to the program’s start to guarantee their seats. Arrive on time. Admission to a program may be restricted after it begins. One last chance to mingle! 4 W&M GLOBAL FILM FESTIVAL SPECIAL GUESTS BURKE BROWNFELD ‘04 Consulting Producer, Charm City Burke’s career started in public service at the William & Mary Police Department. After graduation, Burke became a police officer in Alexandria, Virginia. Since then, Burke has worked in various roles ranging from covering security in Latin America for the US Peace Corps to managing security for the Washington DC Metro System. As consulting producer for Charm City, Burke used his background to help advise on matters related to accessing the police, core themes of the film, and the editing process. Burke is passionate about using film to help improve the police/community relationship. Burke created a training curriculum for police officers, using the film as the foundation, to teach police about procedural justice and empathy. See Charm City, pg. 13 CHARLENE DEGUZMAN Actress / Writer, Unlovable Charlene deGuzman is a writer and actor who first garnered attention from tweeting her self-deprecating thoughts. Rolling Stone named her one of the “Funniest People on Twitter Right Now.” She went on to write and star in her own short films, and her most popular one, I Forgot My Phone, has over 51 million views on YouTube and was featured in The New York Times, USA Today, Time, NPR, and much more. Charlene is an advocate for self-love and bringing awareness to sex and love addiction. She speaks publicly about her recovery, and has her own advice column with FLOOD magazine. Charlene wrote her first feature film, Unlovable, which premiered at SXSW in 2018 and received special jury recognition. See Unlovable, pg. 19 CHITRA SAMPATH ‘06 Producer / Writer, Sleepy Hollow, Good Behavior Chitra Elizabeth Sampath’s writing and producing credits include Southland, Sleepy Hollow, Secrets & Lies and Good Behavior. Most recently she was a Co-Executive Producer on Are You Sleeping?, Apple’s soon-to-premiere first series starring Octavia Spencer, Aaron Paul and Lizzy Caplan. She is also a comedy writer who has won multiple Emmys, WGA Awards, and Peabody Awards for her work as a staff writer on HBO’s Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. She writes sentences for the Scripps National Spelling Bee on ESPN and in her not-so- spare time is working on a musical about the women of the Seneca Falls Convention. See W&M Women in TV, pg. 18 KIM WILCOX ‘88 Costume Designer, Stranger Things, Mr. Robot Most recently Kim joined the creative team for the Russo Brothers’ Sony/Syfy pilot Deadly Class. Kim is also very proud to be part of the creative team for Season 2 of Matt and Ross Duffer’s Golden Globe-nominated sci-fi/horror sensation Stranger Things. For her work on Stranger Things, Kim has been nominated for the 2018 Costume Designers Guild Award for Excellence in Period Television. In 2015 Kim helped create the world of Mr. Robot, a psychological cyber-thriller on USA. Starring Rami Malek and Christian Slater, the series won the 2016 Golden Globe Award for Best Drama Series as well as AFI, Critic’s Choice, WGA, Gotham, and Peabody awards.

WARGO & JAMES JOSHUA COLEMAN Radically questioning and reparatively reading the (in)human, this article extends what counts as queer in critical multicultural children’s literature. HISTORICALLY, EARLY lesbian, gay, bisexual, to spotlight the speculative promise and potential of the transgender, and queer-inclusive (LGBTQ+) picture- fantastic queer (in)human.1 More specifically, we ask: books deployed representations of (in)human characters How is the queer (in)human represented in contempo- (i.e., birds, bunnies, shapeshifters, and more) to open rary LGBTQ+ picturebooks? readers to queer subjects (Young, 2019).     Press Release: Nordic Council Film Prize 2018 Published 21.8.2018, 13.30 CET FIVE NORDIC FILMS HAVE BEEN NOMINATED FOR THE NORDIC COUNCIL FILM PRIZE 2018 Haugesund International Film Festival, August 21st. Today five films from the five Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden) have been announced as candidates for the Nordic Council Film Prize 2018 – a much coveted prize that has been awarded for the 15th time. In the field we see several well-known directors, such as Joachim Trier, Benedikt Erlingsson and Hlynur Palmason, whose films have all premiered in some of the most important international film festivals in 2017 and 2018.
