    1 Coppel Speakers Bureau George Dorin - Survivor George Dorin was born July 14, 1936, in Paris, France. His life would forever change when the Nazis invaded France in 1940. After George’s father, Max Eli Zlotogorski, was taken by the Nazis, his mother, Regina, made the difficult decision to place George and his sister, Paulette, in hiding separately. George’s father was sent to Pithiviers internment camp between 1941 and 1942, then to Auschwitz, where he was murdered. His mother was first taken to Drancy and then to Auschwitz, where she was murdered. Paulette was hidden by various families while George was sent to live on a farm with the Chemin family. Passing as the child of Maria and Louis Chemin, George helped on the farm with their children, Louie Jr. and Denise. When the Nazis advanced near the farm, George was temporarily hidden by a priest in a nearby nunnery until it was safe to return to the Chemin home. In 1947, George was temporarily reunited with his sister before they were adopted by different families. Although separated after the war, George kept in touch with the Chemin family throughout his adult life. In 1948, George immigrated to the United States where he was adopted by Francis and Harry Dorin of New York. He entered the United States Airforce in 1954 and was trained as a medical technician. After his military service, George settled in Ohio where he opened Gedico International Inc., a successful printing company. George met his wife, Marion, in 1990, and together the couple has five children.

Number of pages: 36 Humor is as interesting as it is hard to define. It has travelled a long way since Hippokrates theory about body fluids and how someone, if lacking one of these, were called a humorist and were laughed at. In this thesis we developed a new method for categorizing types of humor in Swedish comedy series on TV. We chose six different shows (Grotesco, KvarteretSkatan, Morgonsoffan, Fredag helaveckan, Parlamentet and Hjälp!) from the two most popular TV-channels in Sweden (SVT1 & TV4). We based or method on previous researchers’ work and came to find some categories that were represented in most of the previous work. Our own method came to contain seven categories which we believe is enough to obtain all kinds of humor in Swedish comedy series on TV. In our study we saw that most of the humor fell under the category that we called unnormality- humor, a category which contained incongruity which many researchers believe is a fundamental part of humor. Our opinion is that the unnormality-category became too wide in our study and that we perhaps should have divided it into two or possibly three categories to see a more distinctive result.

Reality Television Goes Interactive Reality Television Goes Interactive: The Big Brother Television Audience Lisa Gandy Lisa McChristian Student Group Leader Student Group Leader Georgia College & State University Elon College Abstract Reality television was taken to a new realm in the summer of 2000. Television audiences and Internet audiences were married through a voyeuristic, interactive experience. This study attempted to better understand the audience attracted to these interactive, realistic tel­ evision shows. Utilizing previous studies on audience interactivity, a random telephone survey of Big Brother viewers was administered. Big Brother viewers that browsed the show's website before and after the show were demographically more likely to be younger, more educated, and own computers. Big Brother website visitors were significantly more likely to plan to watch the television show, eliminate distractions to that viewing and be more involved during the television show than non-Internet website users. Introduction This project attempted to learn more about the viewers and lev­ els of audience interactivity of the new, voyeuristic CBS television show Big Brother.

    Programme Notes Monday 7th June 7.30pm And Then We Danced (15) This vibrant and intense love story set in the world of traditional Georgian dance comes from Swedish filmmaker of Georgian descent, Levan Akin, whose rose-tinted perspective of his family’s homeland was challenged by a disturbing 2013 event in the nation’s capital, Tbilisi. Around 50 LGBTQ+ activists had congregated for a Pride event, and were met with violence as thousands of far-right counter-protesters swarmed to throw stones and beat them up. Horrified, and inspired to present a counter-narrative to the conservative nation’s widely accepted homophobic attitudes, he visited Georgia in 2016 with a camera to interview anyone he could about Georgian society and the experiences of queer youth in the country. The idea for And Then We Danced grew from those meetings, and blossomed into this fictional story of Georgian folk dancer Merab (Levan Gelbakhiani), who has been training since an early age, and comes from a family of dancers. When charismatic newcomer Irakli (Bachi Valishvili) joins his troupe, Merab’s initial concern at having extra competition for an elusive spot with the National Georgian Ensemble soon gives way to feelings of desire towards the other man. What follows is a beautifully handled coming-of-age tale that sets the stifling social values of Tbilisi against the energy and engaging physicality of the dancers, as Merab navigates the competitive world of dance, the demands of working class life, and his sexual awakening in a society that does not welcome it. Akin too navigated many difficulties - in getting the film made (and seen) - but can proudly stand tall for having succeeded in making art that challenges preconceptions of tradition, masculinity, and national identity.
