Guise has worked with over 200 artists around the globe the most prominent being; Mark Morrison, Tinie tempah , Tory lanes, Idris Elba,2face idibia, Tiwa savage, Teddy Riley and 2chainz just to name a few. Whilst building a catalogue of over 500 music videos, George was also at the helm of viral Campaigns and commercial spots for Roc Nation, Emi Records, B.E.T and Peugeot. George has shot in 3 United kingdom cities and extensively abroad in USA, Canada, Nigeria, South Africa, Dubai, Amsterdam, Spain and Ghana. At an early age George expressed his creative talent as a middle school painter before becoming a prolific graphics designer and eventually inevitably evolving to the filmmaker he is today. After several years of being fascinated by visuals art, young guise ventured into the professional world of cinema as an online post-production editor for film houses where he was able to experiment with moving images. Soon guise became a camera assistant and quickly moved into directing. He fuelled his appetite for moving images with freelance editing and shooting passion projects, which soon thereafter lead to him directing music videos with numerous artists. George is also a producer and is a keen and highly experienced writer and visual effects artist who has managed to bring fresh perspective and edge to the music video scene. George’s work ethic and status amongst pairs is well favoured with him paving the way for many successful independent artist. He is noted for his inventive visual style and distinctive manipulation of images, this skill helped him receive the ADMA awards for best video of the year 2014 based on his work with Dutch singer Nathalie Makoma. By focusing mainly on this singular aspect of the genre, we reduce the whole essence of womanhood in the industry to such interpretations. The limited scope of such discussions deprives the women of opportunities to tell their own stories of what they do when they dance. Seeing the cultural significance of dance as a form of popular culture in the Nigerian context, this essay, from a feminist perspective, closes this gap by engaging in a qualitative exploration of the lives of three female dancers in Nigeria telling their stories through dance. They are Kaffayat Oluwatoyin Shafau (Kaffy), Odumewu Debbie (Debbiepinkie), and Usiwo Orezinena Jane (Janemena). Exploring their social media archives, interviews granted to TV stations and a published autobiography “Alajoota” by Kaffy, this essay contextualizes and complicates the interpretations of sexualization in the Nigerian hip hop dance industry. Through dance Nigerian women performers are able to negotiate the heavily male-dominated hip hop scene. For them, dance is a coping strategy, a profession, a space for redefining self and embracing sexuality and femininity, and a form of youthful identity and inclusion.

    No Bounds 11——13.10.19 Event Programme Music, Art, Film screen- ings, Talks Workshops Introduction Joe Muggs Optimism isn’t really in fashion, and understandably so. We’re overwhelmed by populists, scammers, liars, Fascists, fools of the worst sort, and earnest attempts to counter this takeover are themselves all too often taken over by further Fascists, fools and saviours with feet of clay. The world is burning and melting around us, and we seem to be volunteering to put in hours of labour for free and live under constant surveillance – indeed we even seem to be willing to pay for the privilege. Debt is normality, the lie of austerity is normality, slaughter and torture being beamed into our personal timelines is normality, withering irony and pompous righteousness as cloaks for the worst and most hateful views are normality. Meanwhile in the cultural sphere, recorded music is so devalued that any of the big four tech giants could buy the entire global music industry with the loose change down the back of their sofas, and the only reason they don’t is that it’s not worth the hassle. But – and it’s a big but [“big butt” – Beavis & Butthead cackle] – somehow there’s a lot going on that is pumped full of hope. Not hope in the save-the-world sense, mind. OK there’s some of that around, but even Greta Thunberg’s rhetoric is shot through with a huge amount of bleakness. But small scale, human level stuff where little things that people do in themselves make looking a week, a month, a year forward seem not just bearable but – in the moment at least – exciting.
