The habitat is row crop, sheetwater or mudflat depending on the water levels in the reservoir. Either of those can be good for shorebirds or waterfowl. The old oxbow, Babcock Lake, is a narrow channel that sometimes contains interesting birds. The old parking lot at end of the old road has a good view of the flats, E towards Sand Point. Directions: On the upper Coralville Reservoir, Hawkeye W.A., northwest Johnson Co. A few miles north of I-80, take the North Liberty/F-28 exit off I-380. Go west on F-28 about 3.5 miles to Greencastle Ave. Take Greencastle 1.5 miles north to Swan Lake Rd., just after a pond on your right. Turn right (east) on Swan Lake, a B-level road here, 0.8 mile to the Babcock entrance road on your left. Follow this to its end at a small parking area. Where the road turns left to the parking lot and boat ramp, an old road goes NE from this left turn and may be walked sometimes. This can also be accessed from Swan Lake, going W. The road is often in better shape coming from the E.

Nanda,4 Fellow, ASCE ABSTRACT: This study addresses questions related to ¯ood-control operating procedures followed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District. Application is presented of a mixed integer linear programming model for a reservoir system analysis of three U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' projects on the Iowa and Des Moines rivers. A strategy for evaluating the value of coordinated reservoir operations is developed. Results of this study suggest that operating Coralville Reservoir, on the Iowa River, for ¯ood control on the Mississippi River does not provide appreciable bene®ts and, therefore, an operation plan coordinating releases from Cor- alville Reservoir with the two reservoirs on the Des Moines River may be unnecessary. Damage-minimizing results were obtained by operating the three reservoirs independently for 8 of the 10 largest ¯ood events on record. Also, a review of the operating procedures for the ¯ood of 1993 illustrates how much damage could have been reduced if in¯ows could be predicted months in advance or if the existing operating rules were more averse to extreme ¯ood events. Details can be found on the types of bedrock found in Iowa and common fossils found in Johnson County. Specific attention is given to the Coralville Lake area in Coralville, Iowa and the Devonian Fossil Gorge. The Devonian Fossil Gorge is an impressive formation displaying several fossils preserved in Devonian rock and gives an unique insight into what the ecosystem of that time period was like. The main focus of the student project will be identification of fossils found in the Devonian Fossil Gorge and making ecological connections between the organisms and their environment. Students will need to understand the geologic history of the Johnson County, historical flooding events that have helped to uncover the Devonian Fossil Gorge, and the organisms that existed during the Devonian Time Period. Geography Johnson County is located in Southeast Iowa (see Figure 1) and was settled in 1836. This conference agreement includes the Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2019, the Legislative Branch Appropriations Act, 2019, and the Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2019. The Senate amendment included the Senate versions of each of those bills (S. 2975, S. 3071, and S. 3024, respectively). Similarly, the House bill included the House versions of the legislation (H.R. 5895, H.R. 5894, and H.R. 5786, respectively). H.R. 5895 was passed by the House on June 8, 2018 and used as the vehicle for the Senate amendment, which passed the Senate on June 25, 2018.
