  • Report of the National Seminar on HOW GANDHI MATTERS
Report of the National Seminar on HOW GANDHI MATTERS: ASSESSING THE RELEVANCE OF GANDHIAN SOLUTIONS FOR INDIA AND THE WORLD IN THE 21ST CENTURY Gita Dharampal Held at Gandhi Teerth, 23-24 August 2019 Organized by the Gandhi Research Foundation, Jalgaon & The Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla This two-day National Seminar, jointly convened by the Gandhi Research Foundation (GRF), Jalgaon, and the Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS), Shimla, was held on the idyllic campus of the Gandhi Teerth (Jain Hills) in commemoration of Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary, under the aegis of the GRF Board of Directors represented at the event by Shri Ashok Jain (Chairman, Jain Irrigation Systems Ltd. [JISL]) and Professor Sudarshan Iyengar (former Vice-Chancellor of Gujarat Vidyapeeth). Appropriately entitled “How Gandhi Matters: Assessing the Relevance of Gandhian Solutions for India and the World in the 21st Century”, the seminar’s aim was to discuss not only the continued significance of Gandhi’s legacy but also how to reinvent it in dealing with contemporary problems confronting the subcontinent, in particular, and the globe, in general. Before reporting on the deliberations during the seminar, a brief historical and political overview would be conducive to our contextual understanding of Gandhi’s relevance, and also familiarize the reader with the ‘state of the art’ in Gandhian studies: Given that Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (1869-1948) was an unconventional political leader and thinker, it is easy neither to interpret nor to categorize him. Yet, needless to say, Gandhi impacted as a democratic humanist How Gandhi Matters 191 whose influence surged in the firmament surrounding the First and Second World Wars in the context of anti-colonial national liberation movements in the Asian and African world.

  • Reference Book Iaf Uniforms
REFERENCE BOOK IAF UNIFORMS MESSAGE 1. IAF today is in the midst of a defining phase in its chequered history. While we are witnessing an unprecedented scale of technological transformation, our air warriors remain firmly anchored to the rich legacy inherited from our illustrious predecessors. As the most visible outward symbols, our Air Force uniforms reflect our collective pride in all the noble values which the IAF represents. For our countrymen, the sight of an air warrior smartly attired in the blue uniform instills a sense of assurance in the security of our Nation. 2. Over the years, IAF uniforms have evolved so as to stay contemporary as well as for enhancing their functionality. In addition to a smart uniform, what actually adds to the persona of an air warrior more is the sense of pride which he/she projects in being a member of the IAF. I am happy that the Dte of Org (Cer) has come out with a reference book on ‘IAF Uniforms’ which covers the different aspects related to our current uniforms in great detail. I am sure that it will serve as good reference source to our air warriors posted at different parts of our country and help towards standardising the uniform patterns across the IAF. 3. I exhort you to wear your uniform with pride and continue striving ceaselessly to prove worthy of it. Jai Hind ! (NAK Browne) New Delhi Air Chief Marshal Jan 2013 Chief of the Air Staff MESSAGE 1. Uniform is an important feature in the life of a soldier. To have a sense of uniformity there cannot be any deviations from the laid down specifications.
