In the course of the examination of Indian marine and estuarine food fishes for parasites, the following species of Monogenea of the family Microcotylidae were collected from the gills, and are described in this paper. Those on the gills of Ch.orinemus tala were picked from specimens of fish preserved in 5 per cent formalin in the field and examined in the laboratory after washing and stainin.g as above, but the fixation was not satisfactory. -

Parasites of Australian herring/Tommy ruff (Arripis georgianus) Name: Telorhynchus arripidis - digenean parasites or ‘flukes’ Microhabitat: Live in the fish intestine and caeca Appearance: Shaped liked bowling pins with body broadest in the middle Pathology: Unknown Curiosity: This parasite has not been previously recorded from A. georgianus Name: Erilepturus tiegsi - digenean parasites or ‘flukes’ Microhabitat: Live in the stomach of the host Appearance: Slightly oval shaped with two distinctive suckers, oral and ventral Pathology: Unknown Curiosity: Most digeneans are obtained when fish eat infected intermediate hosts Name: Microcotyle arripis, flatworm parasites commonly called ‘gill fluke’ Microhabitat: Live on the gills and feed on blood Appearance: Brown, thin worms that attach to the gills with microscopic clamps Pathology: Unknown Curiosity: We found up to twenty-one M. arripis individuals on the gills of one fish! Name: Callitretrarhynchus gracilis (cestode), commonly called a tape worm Microhabitat: Live in the body cavity, congregate near the end of the intestine Appearance: White, tear-dropped shaped cysts Pathology: Unknown Curiosity: Open the cysts in freshwater to find the parasite larva inside with four spined tentacles protruding from the head (see photos). The body tegument is composed of an external syncytial layer, musculature, and an inner layer containing tegu- mental cells. The syncytium consists of a matrix containing three types of body inclusions and mi- tochondria. The musculature is constituted of several layers of longitudinal and circular muscle fi- bers. The tegumental cells present a well-developed nucleus, cytoplasm filled with ribosomes, rough endoplasmatic reticulum and mitochondria, and characteristic organelles of tegumental cells. Abstract: The lipid and fatty acid compositions of the muscle and liver of adult and juvenile black rockfish, Sebastes schlegeli, and that of its stomach contents were examined to clarify its lipid characteristic and the difference between aquacultured and wild samples. Triacylglycerols were the dominant depot lipids of all samples, while phospholipids, such as phosphatidylethanolamine and phosphatidylcholine, were found to be the major components in the polar lipids. The cultured juvenile and young samples had high levels of 18:2n- 6 (linoleic acid, 5.0% and 4.0–5.9% for TAG of juvenile and young samples) with low levels of 22:6n-3 (docosahexaenoic acid: DHA, 9.7% and 3.3–6.7% for TAG of juvenile and young samples), whereas the adults (both cultured and wild) had only trace levels of 18:2n-6 (0.6–1.3% and 1.0–1.3% for TAG of cultured and wild samples) with noticeable levels of DHA (3.3–19.7% and 5.2–11.9% for TAG of cultured and wild samples). Similar to the fatty acid profiles in TAG of both cultured and wild adult samples, those in the phospholipids of both the samples were very similar to each other. -

All the monogeneans registered are associated with 363 vertebrate host taxa, and distributed in 498 localities pertaining to 29 of the 32 states of the Mexican Republic. Th e checklist contains updated information on their hosts, habitat, and distributional records. We revise the species list according to current schemes of KEY WORDS classifi cation for the group. Th e checklist also included the published records in the last 11 years, Platyhelminthes, Mexico, since the latest list was made in 2006. We also included taxon mentioned in thesis and informal distribution, literature. As a result of our review, numerous records presented in the list published in 2006 were Actinopterygii, modifi ed since inaccuracies and incomplete data were identifi ed. Even though the inventory of the Elasmobranchii, Anura, monogenean fauna occurring in Mexican vertebrates is far from complete, the data contained in our Testudines. -

OVERSTREET Introduction The following treatment ofparasites, diseases and conditions affecting mullet hopefully serves severai functions. It acquaints someone involved in rearing mullets with problems he can face and topics he should investigate. We cannot go into extensive illustrative detail on every species or group, but do provide a listing ofmost parasites reported or known from mullet and sorne pertinent general information on them. Because of these enumerations, the paper should also act as a review for anyone interested in mullet parasites or the use of such parasites as indicators about a mullet's diet and migratory behaviour.
