5. Hampstead Ridge Key plan Description The Hampstead Ridge Natural Landscape Area extends north east from Ealing towards Finsbury and West Green in Tottenham, comprising areas of North Acton, Shepherd’s Bush, Paddington, Hampstead, Camden Town and Hornsey. A series of summits at Hanger Lane (65m AOD), Willesden Green Cemetery (55m AOD) and Parliament Hill (95m AOD) build the ridge, which is bordered by the Brent River to the north and the west, and the Grand Union Canal to the south. The dominant bedrock within the Landscape Area is London Clay. The majority of the urban framework comprises Victorian terracing surrounding the conserved historic cores of Stonebridge, Willesden, Bowes Park and Camden which date from Saxon times and are recorded in the Domesday Book (1086). There is extensive industrial and modern residential development (most notably at Park Royal) along the main rail and road infrastructure. The principal open spaces extend across the summits of the ridge, with large parks at Wormwood Scrubs, Regents Park and Hampstead Heath and numerous cemeteries. SENIOR WILDLIFE OFFICER JOB DESCRIPTION Job title: Senior Wildlife Officer Based: St James’s Park, The Storeyard, Horse Guards Road, London SW1A 2BJ. Salary: £27,801- £33,727 per annum, depending on experience. Terms: Permanent contract on a full-time basis (36 hours per week) 26 days annual leave pro rata plus public holidays. A pension scheme is available. Reporting to: Assistant Park Manager, St James’s Park. Responsible for: The management of captive bird collections, natural habitats, working with volunteer groups, managing lake water quality, wildlife management and pest control within the Inner Parks (St James’s Park, The Green Park, Victoria Tower Gardens, Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens, Brompton Cemetery, The Regent’s Park & Primrose Hill). Participate in a 24-hour callout rota, to deal with emergencies involving wildlife. Management of firearms. Internal relationships: St James’s Park Manager; Head of Ecology, other Park Managers; Assistant Park Managers; Wildlife Officers; Development and Learning. External relationships: Members of interest groups and other organisations involved in the parks; Swan Sanctuary, RSPCA, Parks Friends Groups, Government Agencies e.g. DEFRA, Park Wildlife Groups; Metropolitan Police; local authorities; members of the public; Zoological Society of London. BACKGROUND The Royal Parks is a charity created in March 2017. We manage over 5,000 acres of diverse parkland, rare habitats and historic buildings and monuments in eight Royal Parks across London. These are: Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens, The Green Park, St James’s Park, The Regent’s Park and Primrose Hill, Greenwich Park, Richmond Park and Bushy Park. We also manage other important public spaces including Brompton Cemetery and Victoria Tower Gardens. -
